American candy

Holy GOD. What the hell do you people put in your sweets? I stumbled across a store in Oslo that sells US-brand candy and after having sampled it I can firmly state that I've solved the world's energy problems. I could probably power New York, California and half of Texas on this stuff. Forget cold fusion, just break open a chocolate bar.

I bought one each of the following:

A Hershey Bar (Creamy Milk Chocolate)
A Mr. Goodbar
A small bag of Reese's Pieces
A packet of Milk Duds
A Butterfingers
A Tootsie Roll

Besides having a mild heart-attack, major sugar rush, headache, numb nerves after shaking for too long and probably anaphyleptic shock (or closest possible alternative to such) I'm now writing this post to tell you guys that if I never post again it's because I've gone into cryogenic freezing to be thawed up at a point in time where they can cure post traumatic stress disorder, not to mention sugar rush withdrawal.

Everything from the US seems to be either better, bigger, stronger or faster. Not necessarily all at once though, since this Milk Duds stuff has got to be classified as the crack cocaine of candy.

I gotta go lie down. Let this heretofore be referred to as 'pulling a Fred', writing posts under the influence of sugar...

Fred my man, why do you think we're all so fat over here? We've got some tasty ass food, and cheap too.

Candy bars....ah....good stuff.
My personal favourite is the 100 grand bar. Caramel, chocolate and crispy rice. Hmmmm....

Another good one is a Whatchmallicat. And yes, that's the official name.

Reeses's pieces are good, try Junior Mints if you get a chance.

Don't even let us get into ice cream. Ben and Jerry's Karamel Sutra, it is just that. Nirvana in a pint carton.

I think soda officially overtook water as the most widely drank beverage in the US. Don't quote me on that though, I could be wrong.

Yes, when it comes to food, it's awesome to live here in the old USA.
My son and I just shared a Dairy Queen banana split. They do something to the ice cream that makes it so soft and delicious.

Amazing stuff.

Snickers and 3 Musketteers are my favs. As for ice cream, Stroh's White Chocolate/Raspberry is the best.

Stroh eh? That would not have any relation to the Austrian rum would it? Stroh is an 80% alc/vol rum... and was responsible for a very interesting evening... yes, I pulled another cub... but I had no access to the internet so it does not really count.

The best part was watching to looks on the poeple faces after they acted all bravado thinking they could handle a shot of the stuff.

A Hershey Bar (Creamy Milk Chocolate)
Last time I had one of those was nearly 10 years ago on my first ever trip to Victoria. Takes me back.. I gotta find that imported chocolate store thats here in Adelaide. :D

And lets not forget a big bag of Orios! How American can you get.

Adelaide is known for its frog cakes btw, they're too sweet though. I remember as a kid I could never eat an entire one.

Yeah, Ryan, egg nog IS good, especially when its laced with Scotch. Hmmm. Course, nowadays I spike it with Geritol.

Hey Cub! Actually, some years back the Stroh family here in Detroit made a beer that was quite popular. Exactly how they went from beer to ice cream remains a mystery to me, but I will say this: their ice cream is great!

Well I survived the ordeal, but I will say this - After digesting about half of the listed candy I got such a sugar-rush I stayed awake far longer than I should have.

Oh, and my favorite was the Tootsie Roll. Not too sweet, but still chewy and tasty.

And another thing - why is it that all american sweets seems to be based around Peanut Butter?

On a sidenote, norwegian chocolate is based on milk.

I never thought chocolate and peanut butter would go together, until I placed a piece of chocolate inside a spponful of peanut butter and had a taste. It was pretty darn good!

Although, it's not that hard to imagine if you think there are already plenty of chocolates out there with peanuts in them.

My favourite used to be Twix then Mars Bars and lately now its Double Decker.
Caramel and other Cadbury goodies like Dairy Milk etc. is nice too.
And of course, chocolate chip cookies.
