OPEN LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY - HELP THE KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
Posted: May 23, 2012 • 1:31 pm
Hi everybody
I know it's my first post here, but I am, as much as you all, a Die Hard fan of Tex Murphy, wanting to see his return..
As we are all aware of, Project Fedora - Tex Murphy reignited - is in the course of a Kickstarter campaign.
It's been going good, started with a bang - 100.000$ (mostly from all of us who were previouly aware of the start of the campaign) on day one, but it's been slowing down the last few days.
As of this writing, we're at 248.135$, with 2800 backers. We're at no means, in danger, but with 23 days left and 201.865$ to go, we need to pass the message across forums, magazines, friends, other kickstarter campaigns, you name it..
One idea I suggested today in the kickstarter campaign forum, was to each of us to adopt a common signature (some of us settled at ### Tex Murphy Personal SideKick (no gun required) ### ) and evangelize the gamming community, asking for their help / donation on the campaign. That's what we (I'm there to) did with Jane Jensen's Moebius Campaign (signature: ### Member of the Pinkerton Road Cavalry ###).
Some of us pledged on other similar campaigns at Kickstarter (Space Quest and Carmaggedon, for instance), asked for their attention, and got some backers support, not much, but at least the seed was planted.
The thing is, we need to spread the word, people!- tell your friends, your gaming forums, your tweet groups, facebook, relatives, write ou email to gaming publications, specialized sites, whatever... Tex needs our help - we need to get as much backers as we can get, this stage of the campaign, and not rely solely on the present backers upping their pledges - that will probably happen later with those that can, but won't be enough if we don't multiply our backer base.
I'll give you an example to think about: At Jane Jensen's campaign, the project was already funded within the initial goal (300.000$), but we were trying to reach 450.000 $ to get the soundtrack of Moebius to be played by a real live orchestra and get 1.000 extra lines of dialog in-game. In the end, with 5836 (!!) backers and a huge effort, we reached 435.316$ and fell short of the mark, 450.000$.
450.000$ IS the minimal goal for Tex..
Adventure games are a niche market, a great market, but a niche market. RPGs and FPS have huge markets and can get million $$$ goals (as in the case of the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter Campaign - $2,933,252 at the end of the campaign - 345 % funding!). That's not the case with our beloved genre..
We WILL get there, but we need active campaigning, not a passive one..
Come to the aid of our beloved, witty and disastrous P.I.
