OPEN LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY - HELP THE KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN

Hi everybody

I know it's my first post here, but I am, as much as you all, a Die Hard fan of Tex Murphy, wanting to see his return..

As we are all aware of, Project Fedora - Tex Murphy reignited - is in the course of a Kickstarter campaign.

It's been going good, started with a bang - 100.000$ (mostly from all of us who were previouly aware of the start of the campaign) on day one, but it's been slowing down the last few days.

As of this writing, we're at 248.135$, with 2800 backers. We're at no means, in danger, but with 23 days left and 201.865$ to go, we need to pass the message across forums, magazines, friends, other kickstarter campaigns, you name it..

One idea I suggested today in the kickstarter campaign forum, was to each of us to adopt a common signature (some of us settled at ### Tex Murphy Personal SideKick (no gun required) ### ) and evangelize the gamming community, asking for their help / donation on the campaign. That's what we (I'm there to) did with Jane Jensen's Moebius Campaign (signature: ### Member of the Pinkerton Road Cavalry ###).

Some of us pledged on other similar campaigns at Kickstarter (Space Quest and Carmaggedon, for instance), asked for their attention, and got some backers support, not much, but at least the seed was planted.

The thing is, we need to spread the word, people!- tell your friends, your gaming forums, your tweet groups, facebook, relatives, write ou email to gaming publications, specialized sites, whatever... Tex needs our help - we need to get as much backers as we can get, this stage of the campaign, and not rely solely on the present backers upping their pledges - that will probably happen later with those that can, but won't be enough if we don't multiply our backer base.

I'll give you an example to think about: At Jane Jensen's campaign, the project was already funded within the initial goal (300.000$), but we were trying to reach 450.000 $ to get the soundtrack of Moebius to be played by a real live orchestra and get 1.000 extra lines of dialog in-game. In the end, with 5836 (!!) backers and a huge effort, we reached 435.316$ and fell short of the mark, 450.000$.

450.000$ IS the minimal goal for Tex..

Adventure games are a niche market, a great market, but a niche market. RPGs and FPS have huge markets and can get million $$$ goals (as in the case of the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter Campaign - $2,933,252 at the end of the campaign - 345 % funding!). That's not the case with our beloved genre..

We WILL get there, but we need active campaigning, not a passive one..

Come to the aid of our beloved, witty and disastrous P.I.

Greetings from a fellow fan,

Newguru

Dear Newguru.
Welcome to this forum. We are all Tex fans. If you look through this forum, you will find that a lot of people have done a lot of work in order to promote this campaign.
I am not one of them, only with my ready flow of cash.

So, once again welcome, here we are all dedicated to the Tex Murphy games, some of the best adventure games ever made.

Regards,
Brian
Thanks for coming and for your interest. :)

Anyway... Lurk more. We already know everything you posted. We've known it for a long time, in real time. We've been doing all we can. We've been asking all over. We've been trying so hard. What else do you think can we do?

I've done all that I know to do!

What else can I doooooooHOOooo HOOOOoooo A-BLOO BLOO BLOOooo Image
Welcome, newguru.

No one's been working harder campaigning than these guys, and if not for them it wouldn't have had that massive first day.

I've gotten 3 friends to pledge, and I'm pretty sure I can get 2 or 3 more to join in before the end. Message board campaigning has been less successful for me.
Dear Brian

By no means am I implying that others don't make an effort, not by a chance..
It's one of the most loving and dedicated communities there is, I know - One only needs to watch the fan made movies, for instance - but Kicktsarter campaigns need to reach as much people as we can reach, in order to increase the backer's base and, as you know, funding has been moving very slow lately..

We just don't want to be in the position we were with Jane Jensen's campaign and risk the funding alltogether, believe me...

Best regards,

Pedro

Hi Newguru, welcome aboard!

Just a few things that the community on this forum have done:
- Created testimonials which were used in the main Kickstarter pitch video
- Created the New Sanfrancisco Voice Episodes (Update #5 on the Kickstarter, more to come!)
- Distributed flyers to local game stores
- Put an ad in a widespread Utah newspaper (since the company is Utah based)
- Created graphics (signatures, avatars, web banners)
- Added promotional ad magnets or stickers to their cars
- Translated & shared the Kickstarter video into French, Russian, Português Brasileiro, Italian and more.
- Bought and put out out ads on Facebook, Google Adsense, Project Wonderful etc.
- Twittered, Reddited, Facebooked, Blogged
- Wore a promo t-shirt in a high profile muddy race
- Exchanged pledges with jane's Kickstarter or others
- Setup video streams for the games (a big marathon is on the way too).

Just to name a few!

So any additional ideas are welcome! Thanks for joining :)
