My current gaming-experience

Deadly Rooms of Death (DROD) is a classic. You can get the original for free: http://www.drod.net (Very good puzzle game. Starts out easy but gets hard in a hurry. Also a good support forum where you can get room hints if you need them.) All movement is deterministic, although you may initially think the bats are random -- but they aren't :) (DROD: Architect's Edition is the one you can get for free; runs on Linux as well as Windows.)
I can't really talk that much about the games you guys are currently playing. I don't have any of them and don't really feel the need to play them either :)

My current gaming-experience though is as follows:

- I just finished Simon The Sorcerer 4: Chaos Happens. I have had a break with this game for several months. Don't know why, but I finally got around to finish it a couple of days ago. Nice game - not as good as the first and second, but a whole lot better than the third one :)
- I have played through the first 4 chapters of the new Tales of Monkey Island, and I'm really enjoying it. Monkey Island is probably one of the best games, I've ever played and is without a doubt one of the best adventure game series in my book. Now I'm waiting for the 5th and final chapter :)

- I have two other adventure games in progress. Jack Keane and Still Life 2. Still Life 2 has also been on hold for quite a while, but I really should get going again on that one. It's a really good game :)

But DROD: Architect's Edition is freely available from www.drod.net (under the Downloads section), so you don't need to buy it. Pure puzzle enjoyment. It's a very unique game, very highly recommended. Starts out easy, but gets hard in a hurry! Great support forum too if you get stuck and need a hint. There is a thread on getting started with DROD (which also lists all that is freely available) here:

I'm quite sad to say I haven't played anything exciting lately. I joined up with real arcade/gamehouse so I've got a subscription to get games every month. There are hidden object and puzzle games. They make their attempts at adventure games and some are pretty good for $20.

The last long length game I played was TLJ: Dreamfall. I can't believe Fun.com has just left me hanging with cliffhanger. Why is it that games I love always end up hurting me?

I'm happy that CJ and AC are back in the computer game business again so at least I have some new adventure games to look forward to again but alas nothing like the old glory days of Tex or Grim Fandango yet.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.
I tried DROD, but it's far too cheap for me to get into right now. It might be a cool game underneath the crappy graphics and such, but I'm just not that interested. Especially since Modern Warfare 2 is so awesome.

I'm not a fan in any way of Bethesda. I haven't been since Daggerfall. Which I had more fun with than a dog chasing cars. But Fallout 1 & 2 were some of the best examples of transferring pen and paper roleplaying to the computer, which is what they were trying to do, and which is the main reason why I like them. I also like the stories, the way the different plot arc dialogue trees were built up, and the sense of humour the writers managed to put in.

I won't get into a shouting match about what games are best and which are not, I'm getting too old to argue on the internet. But I'll mention that I like Fallout 1 & 2, and that Bethesda has gone downhill with TES since Morrowind. As for S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I found the game boring and repetitive with severe lack of actually interesting gameplay mechanics. I felt the story was severly lacking, that there were no interesting characters, and the main story arc didn't hold my interest. Those are just my preferences, but I'll stick by them.

Oh, and I was 14 years old when Daggerfall was released

I know it's not the first in the series, but Arena wasn't exactly a big hit in Norway.

To somewhat re-rail this thread:

My current gaming experience is the new GTA IV expansion - The Ballad of Gay Tony. While the story seems... I dunno, weaker, or thinner, than previous iterations of the series, I do like the missions and the colourful characters. And the non-stop action. And the humour. And the parachute is back! It's like a cheeseburger - It's nothing special, it's kinda common, and too much of it's no good for you. But damn, does it taste good!

As I said, you are TOO young for serious games, Fred. Try again later, my friend.

Vracar wrote:Hey Alex, when the Stalker games came out my PC couldn't run them, and then I forgot about 'em, but don't worry! They're on my list of games to play, eventually.

There's actually another Russian game that's coming out that looks interesting. The English title is "The Void," but I prefer the Russian title, which I believe translates to, "Tension."

Nick, do you speak Russian?

You're four years older than me!

And if you like "serious" games, why play games at all?

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!

Fred! You are younger than my coisin brother!

Why I play games? It's my lifestyle.

What does my age have to do with anything..?

Anyway, my current gaming experience is the same as everyone else's these days - Modern Warfare 2.

Loving that storymode!

All right, Fred.
Play YOUR games, I play MY games.
But... let's make a deal: don't touch TES-series and I won't touch "Fallout"-series. Word of TRUE Russian! Deal?
Truly yours,
Alexander.

Hey, I love Daggerfall!

But alright. Deal. If only to avoid arguing on the internet

I believe the word you use is 'Harasho'..?

Yes, Fred, horosho (real translation from Russian).
If we have a deal, I won't argue about "Fallout". You have my Word of TRUE Russian. It's unbreakable like a diamond.

About "Daggerfall"... I hope you are not thief or "dark brother" or any other criminal in the game. Am I right?
Truly yours,
Alexander.

Alas, Alex, I do not speak Russian. Learning how is on my list of things to do after I graduate from college, though I'll probably want to learn Serbian first. Parent's native language and all.

Gears of War - I saw it for like twelve dollars or so, so I played through it again. I shot some fools and wandered about while looking at Fenix from a little bit back and the right. I wish this game featured the camera switch option that GRAW has, where you push a button and suddenly the camera has panned over to the other side. Without it encountering corners that turn to the right make me blind to approaching enemies, only because the camera is so fixed.

Halo ODST - A lot of fun! And a surprising story structure for a Halo game. You play as a rookie scouting the city after a bad drop, discovering clues as to what happened to the rest of your team, and then you play as the rest of your team in the flashbacks. Eventually the events of the day meet up with your wandering hero and the plot gets to make sense. Not too bad. And includes co-op!

Kane and Lynch:Dead Men - This also has co-op, but I don't think I'd really force a friend into playing this, let alone play it a second time myself. The gameplay peeks at mediocrity and the cover mechanic is not very functional. The story had some interesting points though, and the characters were also interesting as well. Hopefully their upcoming sequel, Kane and Lynch:Dog Days, manages to suck less.

Amped 3 - I normally don't play sports game or trick based games...or snowboarding games, but I made an exception for Amped 3 for two reasons. One, it's developed by Indie Built with music by Matt Heider, and two, the cinemas are of a kind that I wanted to play through to find out what happens next. The snowboarding was cool, though I was really in it for all the fucked up cutscenes.
