Possibility of a rendering Tex?
I posted this over on Nerrolken's site (http://www.thecodexseries.com/forum/ind ... topic=5457), and was wondering what all y'all thought about the idea. Would it hold water, and if so, would it be possible that someone might actually buy into it?
I was messing around in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion last night and started thinking that the GUI (or a similar one) in that might be useful in making a Tex Murphy Revival. The graphics engine can handle the detail rich features such as faces, flames, particles, and foliage, plus part of what Oblivion is is rooting through other peoples stuff to find something important (something Tex is a master of). Because it can also support a much larger enviroment than the original games it might even be possible for them to render a larger section of Tex's neighborhood. Hand to hand combat might even become a feature because of the FPS or third person interface of the engine. Mind you, that isn't what Tex is about, but who knows what they mind do to make it appeal to consumers.
It's also possible that the FMV feature of Tex could remain in the form of small scenes acted out by our favorite detective and ensemble. By the way technology has progressed that kind of interactivity is possible using in game graphics now (Half-life 2, Myst V, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion), but might be seen as a drastic step away from the classic story telling style of the original games.
While it could be do-able, the question is should it be done with a pure CGI enviroment and characters?

This possibility has been explored quite a few times by fellow members... but of course, regardless of what format, it required money. And with today's game industry, despite the fact that it is cheaper to produce CG games that it is to produce FMV games, the amount of money developers are spending on games and advertising is the equaliser anyway. Not to mention more fierce competition.
The fan based community can quite possible do this, but the question is that of time and resources. And in more cases than none there is very little motivation when there is no incentive.

But I remember a screenshot of a rendered Tex from a while back... From some fan-made game... "Oracle," maybe? Ringing a bell? Even just getting that model of the main character would go a LONG way to allowing for mods of other games, machinima series, or even just desktops and the like to keep the hope alive. Anyone remember where I saw that?

I seem to recall that someone made the head of Tex a while back using Poser. I myself would love to get that 3D model as I can put it into 3D Max yet I cannot seem to find it on the board. Was it on the old board? Anyway I have decided to just make the model myself and am slowly plunking away at a 3D Tex from scratch that will rigged in 3D Max and attempt to make some samples of animation with audio directly from the Radio Theater. I am sure after I get the model done I can export the low poly model for your game engine if you like. However I have 6 projects on the go and can't guarantee it anytime soon. It'll be made on a free time basis. I seem to be a master of long run-on sentences. Warning take a deep breath as you read aloud.
Hey thanks for the offer Jim but I actually have the Tex collage on one of my other computers. I was actually referring to the thread about someone using Poser 5 I believe. It was a program that lets you modify 3D character models into something you can work with. I believe it was originally called Fractal Poser. However the person that made the model was talking about Poser 5 at the time and had modified one of the models to look like Tex's head based off of snapshots from the game. Here is a link to some images of the program in question, maybe it'll jog someone's memory:

I had used this program in the past and was underwhelmed by it, however it is good for fun and learning what 3D is all about. I believe they are up to version 6 or 7 now so it's been a while since that version came out. I will attempt to post an image in the body of this message so if you see one you know it worked.

Hmmmm interesting the image matches the board perfectly.

I made this a couple of years ago when I was thinking about making a series of movies based on the Radio Theater episodes. It is NOWHERE NEAR finished, as you can tell, but the basic layout is there and I thought I'd post it. I think I might pick it up again when I go home for Spring Break next week. Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think so far.

I had a model made yes, for my fan game which never took off the ground, Oracle. It was a remake of Martian Memorandum. Hmmm I don't know if I have the model still...
