Hey, you know, if we keep going to the movies and *paying* to see his films. He wins.
And everytime, I'm like "please don't disgrace alone in the dark ... please don't disgrace house of the dead..." ....
Now I'm gonna pay my 7.50, get my popcorn, all the while saying "Please don't disgrace Far Cry" ...
He's taking my favorite franchises and taking a dump on them. And getting away with it. Let's just be thankful he hasn't gotten his hands on a Tex Murphy movie license yet.

To be honest, this is not possible.

Sure the story of the movie is just plain stupid - but so is the story of the game: it almost has none and serves only as background for shooting lots and lots of zombies. So in this aspect Boll's movie is very true to the game.
Actually, if you like trash movies - and as Tex fan this should not be very unlikely seeing as the origins of this series lie in self made trash movies such as "Plan 10 from outer space" - "House of the Dead" can be a pretty funny and entertaining movie.

Perhaps my whole issue with the movie was my love for the games. I mean, yeah, story wise, buncha zombies jump out ... you blow their heads off. Some sort of dialouge thrown in for good measure. It wasn't an adventure game, no. But for what it was, I still wanted something a little more ... I dunno, better. More ... sparkly.
Ever since watching Resident Evil, I've always wanted all game movies to stack up to that. It may not be Oscar art, but Resident Evil defined the perfect mood for that kind of videogame, didn't completely rip off the storyline from the game, and did it's own thing, satisfying the game nuts, and movie goers alike.
Uwe Boll movies do not a Lord of the Rings Trilogy make is what I'm basically trying to say I guess. I'm prejudiced against movies not being blockbusters. I love independent films too, but basically a big whiz-bang special effects extravaganza gets my blood pumping more ... I expect too much from video game movies.

The only film that nailed the Game to movie thing in my opinion was the Super Mario Bros movie.. That was so forking awesome and yet gamers still hated it.. Well fork them

bloody good movie and definitely in the tradition of blade runner.

I think people either love or hate the Super Mario Bros. film. People who didn't like it felt it was just too corny and cliche etc. But I think a similar thinking as above with the House of theDead (I havent seen House of the Dead film though so I'm just referring to what someone said above) applies to Super Mario Bros. as there is no real plot to most of the games. You go around jumping on stuff, collect goodies and bounce on a boss every now and again, save the princess, you're done. The games are also supposed to be fun and light entertainment, nothing too deep. I haven't watched Super Mario Bros. film for years and years but I remember enjoying it and even if its corny at least its fun.
I think the only other video game to movie adaptations I've seen are Tomb Raider and Silent Hill. I thought Tomb Raider was kind of dull really and boring... I guess again there's not much plot to Tomb Raider games other than running around ruins/buildings avoiding getting killed and trying to swipe things (been awhile since I played any of them though). So the fact the film is mainly action is fitting I guess.
Silent Hill was pretty good, especially the first half, it did a nice job of relating the feeling you get of walking around the abandoned city, as in the game, and encountering strange creatures and scenes etc. Gradually trying to unravel how it all came to be. They changed a few things to the plot but I didn't mind. I didn't really like near the ending (the ending itself I didn't mind too much) though sadly as it got a bit too gory and graphic for me, as someone who has played all 4 Silent Hill games to some extent (finished the first 3 and partway through the 4th) I guess I should expect the gore and I have not minded graphic gore in some other films but perhaps it was just the way in which it happened that I wasnt used to or perhaps just that the games arent so detailed as a live-action film, I'm not sure. At any rate the end seemed a bit freaky but the rest of the film was top-notch. Thats just my opinion though.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children was a good movie, but it wasn't TRUE enough to the original story.. But I give it a 10 for Voice acting - they matched the characters PERFECTLY.

Oh yes, Advent Children. Although Advent Children is more of a sequel than an adaptation of an existing game story etc. It happens after the game when things have changed quite a bit for the characters and their environment so I'd find it tough to compare (the original game is unbeatable anyway since it has so many more hours to work with and did so well as using them). I didn't feel it strayed too much though, as the ending of the game was pretty open-ended, I was dissapointed they'd seemed to abandon Materia/use of magic but I guess its because Materia was taking from the planet (this is just my guess though as it still doesnt explain why they keep the Materia around other than to maybe satisfy Yuffie's obession with them). But yes it is very good, I enjoyed it. It originally was going to be very short but they extended it so I guess that accounts for the thin plot but the visuals are undeniably stunning and the movement direction was impressive.

Yes, Advent Children is only a sequel not an adaption, so it doesn't really qualify as a video game movie - it's CGI anyway. They use materia in the movie though: The main bad guy (forgot his name) used one materia to summon the beast in the city plaza.
Tomb Raider 1 was an OK movie, I think. Some parts were very good and some parts less, but overall good. The second movie however was just plain terrible. They just took the bad parts and elaborate them. Also the love story was totally out of character for Lara.
And I think, the games themselves have some stories; not very extensive ones, but at least more than "Super Mario" and Co. Actually I found the twist at the end of the first game quite intriguing.

Who can forget the Doom movie?!
But in all seriousness, what would it take to make a GOOD video game movie? The plots of games can't be so crazy that they'd ALL be bad movies, because then how could we even accept them as plots to begin with?
I think MOST of the LEC adventure games would be good. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I think most adventure games themselves would be good movies, because the plots of generally so tightly constructed that they're basically interactive movies, as, if memory serves me right, Tex games were originally billed.

Yeah, I know there was that 1 materia (and it was interesting how it was used) but I was hoping for more really.

But I guess the good guys had sort of lost the will to use them or something (there was that suggestion that only Cloud really had the 'fighting spirit' anymore). Still a great movie though.
There was a second Tomb Raider movie!? .... I didn't even know.

Hey honestly, I enjoyed that movie. Well okay, maybe not so much. But it gets extra credit points for the FPS gameplay translated onto film towards the end of the movie. THAT was cool.

LEC adventure games
I assume you mean SCUMM - well The Curse of Monkey Island had been planed for sometime, but was ditched once Pirates of the Caribbean came out. I'd give anything though for DOTT the movie
Why didn't they ever make a Star Wars game on SCUMM? they did with every other franchise..

Star Wars has been butchered soo badly lately

Yeah, this was part was really cool - especially (or maybe only?) if you played some FPS games before; these 10 minutes were far better than the whole rest of the movie which was kind of mediocre. The main flaw of this film was the fact that they neglected the whole hell/demon thing and based all only on genetical mutation due to a virus.
Did anyone see "Mortal Combat"? The story was also really silly - at least the movie had one contrary to the game - but it featured some nice fighting and special effects for the time.
