Yes, that is a Google Ad banner...

I am testing out the idea of having Google ads here. This is by no means set in stone, so if everyone is vehemently against it, I will take it down. This is your board as much as it is mine.

Although, it would be super-nice if everybody clicked an ad or two, now and again... :)
Really? My Firefox "CustomizeGoogle" extension must be blocking it. Sorry, James, I won't be clicking anything.

C'est la vis. :) That's actually good information for me to have, though. I wasn't even aware there was such a thing.
Depends if the money go towards a Save Tex fund.

Whatever money comes in from the ads would go towards keeping the UOTM site and boards up and running, first and foremost. I don't expect this to be a giant windfall of free cash or anything...not in the slightest*...but if there does happen to be any extra leftover, it will go towards some kind of "Save Tex" fund.

(*I'm not even sure at this point if the ads will be a permanent feature or not.)
It might be nicer at the bottom of the page but I guess that defeats the purpose if you only receive money if theyre clicked as opposed to just having them on the page at all. I clicked it this time to help out but dunno how often I'd think of it. Anyway hope it helps out the site. Maybe you can set it so the ads are only related to stuff that people on the forums would be interested in? e.g. computer games etc.

I agree with Sai... if you are going to have it you might as well have it at the bottom of the pages so it is less in your face. Although it seems like Jen would pay good money to not have any ads at all.

This board is my favorite place to visit, it's actually my home page. I don't like the ads. I'd rather just give you the money.
::shrugs:: I see ads every website I go. No biggie for me, really. It's up to you, and everyone else, of course, but I'll click them if if it gives you a bit of money. I don't have to wait for the page to load do I? I can just click, and be done with it. Right?
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
If you wouldn't had open this topic, I would have never known that there actually was a banner, since AdBlock already blocks all banners from Google on my computer. 8)
I think the text adds are completely unobtrusive. They just look like part of the header and are easily ignored or accessed, as the case may be. As text, they load in a jiff.

Banner adds may be a bit more obtrusive because, for people with dial-up, they take langer to load. But then, that could be said for any of the members here with banner signatures, but I haven't heard any complaints about that. So it ought to be ok.

The kind of adds that I find VERY distracting are the ones with flashing letters or animation. They are definitely a nusance. But the type of adds I've see so far are no problem to me.
To tell you the truth I didn't even notice the ads until this morning when I got a bright, obnoxious one at the top. I'd be willing to throw in a buck or two.
I've checked every box. There's no socks in my stocks.
It really doesn't matter that much to me. In fact, the page opened yesterday, and I saw the "Yes, that's a google ad" topic. Took me a second to find it since it blended right into the top of the page. If it helps out, I don't have a problem helping out a good cause.
I didn't notice it until Jen mentioned it. And to be honest I didn't see this post until just today. I usually ignore the top two because they're usually static and abandoned, and I assumed the ads were from a third party, like EZ board used to do.
I have no objection to the ads especially if they help this board and/or the Save Tex fund.
