HD/DVD Installer for The Pandora Directive

Here is my HD/DVD installer for the game The Pandora Directive.
Like the previous one for Under A Killing Moon it allows you to install the whole game to your hard disc or to create a DVD version of the game, so you don't have to change CDs anymore.

For this purpose also all the inventory files (EXAM???.AP), which have identical names, but partly different contents, are extracted and recombined to new single files, so no animations are lost.

Features:

- Option to make a full installation on the hard drive and play without any CDs
- or Create a DVD version, so that you can play later directly from the DVD without the need of changing CDs
- Full Installation can also be started later on from the DVD
- Recombination of the inventory-files from the different CDs
- Original CDs can be inserted in any disc drive(s). (The correct CDs are recognised automatically)
- Support for English and German version of the game
- Bilingual (German & English) - language depends on the Windows version of your PC

As before, all needed Infos are covered in the file DVDInfo.txt, which will be displayed at the start of the installation.

Comments and error reports are welcome. If someone has the game in another language besides German or English and is interested in using the installer, please write me a PM.

Here is Update v1.1 (same points as for the UAKM installer):
Changed the detection routine, so that now every CD-Rom is recognized (even with high letters)

The needed disk space in the main installer should now be correctly displayed.

thanks for this, it actually works, now I can get rid of the virtual drives. previously copying just the .ap files to the hard did not work for me as I would always lock up on disk 4 when viewing objects.

When I saw your post I thought (another program that won't work, boy I was wrong)

This is an amazing download. Is there any chance of an overseer version?

Since I have the DVD version of Overseer I didn't really saw the need for this. The CD version is also included so I might have a look at this, but I really can't promise anything, especially as I will be rather busy in the next few months.

The dvd was never really successful, I find I have use both versions during the game as at alcatraz cd version keeps on crashing & at gideons mansion it helps to swap to dvd version in this part of the game.

I'd like to seccond the request for an Overseer Installer. I've been trying unsuccessfully to get the DVD version to run in XP. The CDs work fine. Something is up with that MPEGII stuff.

Use Elecard MPEG-2 Player and/or DVD Express with the newest patch of Overseer v1.04 and it should work fine - even with better video compared to the CD version (like it is mentioned in this thread.)

I don't have the possibilty for another patch/installer at the moment because I am quite busy now and these programs (and figuring out the file composition and structure) are really time-consuming - even it may not look like this judging from the somewhat low responses here in this forum.

I agree that it looks better. I've tried both the Elecard and the DVDExpress with the patch with no success. I either freeze up at the end of a FMV or I get no video at all.

I found that the I had to install both the elecard mpeg 2 & dvd express for it to work & in the conf I had to set it to dvd express & it worked.

Still not perfect but it plays

Problem Found

I was running through Panodra Directive on a DVD copy I created using your installer, when I found a problem. On the day which begins at Roswell (Day 6 or 7 I believe) I was in the first room, and picked up a number of items (id cards, radio, etc.) When I tried to examine these items, I was asked to insert CD 4.

Anyone else have this problem? Did I do something wrong when I created the DVD? The process seemed fairly automated.

I had a similar problem at first it asked for disk 1, so I did the full install version which runs from the hard disk & had no problems.

running from the dvd didn't work for me.

previously when I installed the ap files to the hard disk when it got to disk 4 I had big problems (couldn't examine things) & it would crash, that being due to some of the ap files having the same name & during installation you had just keep the biggest file. With the HD/DVD installer it corrects that problem.

Full install only partial solution

Well, it didn't exactly work. I've done a full install, and brought my save-games over to it. When I try to observe one of the items I couldn't before, it no longer asks for CD4... however, when the examine screen comes up, it is a blank (black) screen with no voice over. However, the game does think I examined the items... for instance, when I examine the radio, the radio item is replaced with the batteries. I didn't hear an explanation for this, nor see a video, but I assume he opens it and finds them. When I try to examine the batteries, they're also black/blank, so they must have been CD4 content as well.

Any other thoughts? I'm tempted to next delete the full install, re-do the DVD install, and then actually swap to CD4 when it asks and see how it reacts.
