Hey everyone,

It looks as if FMV (Full Motion Video) is not dead in the game industry after all. The very successful Command & Conquer franchise is going back to its FMV roots.

Wah-hah-hey!! More C&C! That's always good stuff!

But that they invest heavily in FMV? Even better! A foothold, at least! Let's hope FMV prevails, and that someone wants to invest some cash in a FMV-game. A CERTAIN FMV-game. You all know what I'm talking about.

Mmmm. Tasty!

I just read an article in the swedish computer, movie, tech-stuff magazine M3 where the game reviewer
thought that the way to breathe new live into the movie-industry would be to re-introduce FMV with a lot
of interactivity. At least that would spare us a lot of movies that you have figured out after watching it for
five minutes.

Lets just hope that a lot of people take his advice and that it rubs of on the gaming industry, shall we?

Yeah film makers are missing a trick. Imagine the extra money they'd make from hardcore fans by filming a few extra scenes and then releasing an interactive version (after the normal edition of course for those fans that can't wait) with a few alternative paths/endings and unlockable bonuses (outtakes) :D

What do you think about http://www.darkstar.gs ? It´s an independent production, i know, but the cinematics don´t look that bad. :D

FMV is a success it seems. EA is continuing the FMV tradition with the upcoming Red Alert 3!! Red Alert 3 will be starring Tim Curry, JK Simmons (J Jonah Jameson from Spiderman), Jenny McCarthy, Kelly Hu, George Takei, and others in FMV sequences.

It would seem FMV isn't dead in PC games. It was just taking a lunch break. :)

There's hope that a famous detective will return to the PC screen in hi res FMV glory sometime soon! :)

Tim Curry was best as King Acorn in the Sonic The Hedgehog TV series IMO but then I'm biased.

I also noticed a couple of other well knowns in there as well. However if Chris and Aaron wanted to do an FMV game they'd have to sell their souls to EA which is a big NO NO after what happened with microsoft.

Why would they have to go through EA for a FMV???

Because FMV is goddamn expensive business and EA is one of the few giants in the industry that could finance such a venture.

But technology is catching up to FMV anyways, so... Meh. I'm not too fussed either which way as long as the story's good.

With today's camera market... I have to disagree. FMV is cheaper than ever before. Hiring Maggie Q is expensive. Hiring Bruce Willis is expensive. I could re-make PD or UAKM scenes using never heard of actors and a director buddy of mine for maybe a hundred grand using experienced gaffers, etc. Unions allow for low budget prices.

It could be far more expensive to do the coding/artwork for a video game than FMV depending on who you use. Obviously there are people like James Earl Jones out there who would do it for minimal pay to make their child happy. So even getting "talent," might not be that expensive.
