overseer dvd question...

I was just thinking that I haven't played the games in a while, and I just got this spiffy new laptop with dvd/cd playability. I thought it'd be fun to just stick the Overseer dvd in there to tote around and play when i had a chance (it's all cool because it's only one disk). But when I looked through the old box, I couldn't find the dvd disk it came with... I must have lent it out or misplaced it.

Does anyone know where I can find one (price, etc.)? Or even if it's still compatable with XP/IntelCeleronM?

I haven't really tried even the older games on the newer systems... does anyone know if UKM or PD still runs? I'll try harder to find those disks if they do...

Thanks!
Miss Cyndi V
With the steps described in Tex Support the Overseer DVD plays very well in XP. UAKM runs pretty good in Dosbox, if you've got a really fast computer. Can't remember how Pandora plays. I seem to recall giving up on making it run well, and booting my old retrogaming computer instead.
I actually have much better luck with Pandora than with UAKM on XP. UAKM dumps me out every time I talk to Chelsee, Clint, Beek (and probably a few others) and will not play the MIDI correctly. One of my major grievances is that on the travel screen (the map), when you select a location, the window on the top right takes an insane amount of time when it does the little shrinking thing after every clip. But this is off-topic!

Overseer does not run very well on my XP system. Kicks me out at the end of almost every video clip. I have to insert the appropriate CD before the video starts in some places that won't let you start after the clip. Of course, all these errors are documented elsewhere. Not everyone seems to have this trouble.

The DVD was actually BEHIND disc 5 in a separate case. It is hard to see if disc 5 is in the case. Did you happen to look there?

If you need to re-buy it, here’s a link to a very reasonably priced copy…..

Should you come across it (or buy it again), I would recommend creating an image of the disc on your laptop's HD (using whatever burning software you prefer) and mount it with Daemon Tools when you play. This way you won't risk losing or damaging the DVD and it will extend your battery life by not using the DVD drive.

Incidentally, Overseer works perfectly fine in XP without using compatibility mode. Just make sure you have a compatible software decoder installed (and the game update). DVD Express is the one I have been using and it seems to work fine.

In the spirit of being a dork, and of following the prevailing trend, I dug through the archives and unearthed a pic from Halloween Past... :)

I guess, in the spirit of dorkness, I'll have to dig out my fedora and snap a picture.... :D

Hey Cyndi - if you need a TMO DVD send me an email.

Put TMO in subject line.

My pic is from a recent New Year's masquerade in which I dressed as Indy. If anyone would have known who I was, I would have been Tex.

I really like this trend. Quite a show of dorky solidarity and dedication!

Woo James! Love the pic! Were you Tex for Halloween or Indiana like Jerry? (I think Tex has some influence from Indiana Jones... at least as far as having a state for a first name goes while donning a cool hat. I had a character named Dakota Brown to follow that same trend in one of my fan fic stories...)

I was definitely aiming for Tex. :) There have been a couple Halloweens where I've gone as Tex; he's sort of my my stand-by costume if I can't think of anything else to go as. :) This past year I was Arthur Dent, though, so the coat and hat stayed put.
Guess I should follow suit as well :D

What?! You can't seriously wish to enroll in a program that will remove Tex (and us) from your lives! You do need counseling, but of a different sort!

I think my cube-mate at work thinks this is some sort of cult or something! :)
