The Final Tex Murphy?

I've been mulling over Aaron's latest update for the last few days and still cannot help it feel a little confused. He said he was working toward a novel which could potentially contribute to the final and greatest Tex Murphy game of all time. Now unless they're going to do a Metal Gear solid and 'retire' the franchise only for it to return, I can't help it feel confused.
In all of the interviews leading up to Tesla the guys said that if possible they would continue making Tex games as long as they are able to do so both financially and creatively. If the next one is to be the final, it just seems to me they're cutting the fuse far earlier than I expected. Or have I read this wrong? I mean, BFG are really only just getting started given this is their first massive budget release in that it isn't just a casual game.

There's nothing that says they can't do mini cases or case files, but the novel(s) and hopefully next Tex game will complete the main story arc that he envisioned what...20 years ago?
Dang I'm getting old.

I see. So he's referring to the Polarity/Trance/Chance trilogy? That makes sense since the events of two of those games are said to have gone into Tesla Effect. Could be interesting (assuming I read you correctly).

Joel, I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Aaron is working on two Tex Murphy books, not one. His writing has matured alot in regard to depth and plots. I don't think he's done writing about Tex.
I can't say anything about games. I did not read anything regarding a new game or if Tesla Effect is the last. Maybe the BigWigs could pay us a visit?

Aaron's update (which was included in the last Kickstarter update) said there would be two novels. The first is what happened between Pandora and Tesla Effect (the missing seven years) and is TE "Chance" story. The second is the sequel to Tesla and is the "Trance" story. The bulk of Tesla was the story originally titled "Polarity." (Aaron confirmed this in another post somewhere on here)
Though it may be nice to have more games after Trance, we've already got more than I've expected for most of the last sixteen years, so I'm already happy with what we've got.

Hey guys, I just happened to poke my head in here today and saw this thread.
First, in regards to any future games, it will come down to Chris Jones's availability (and resources). I expect we'll have to wait until he's ready to move on from TruGolf before we can get any past or future projects going, but we'd all love to do something together again. At the very least, I think we'll finish off the Pandora remaster at some point.
As for the things I'm working on, I will definitely release at least three more Tex Murphy books.
The next one is "Tex Murphy and the Steakhouse Stakeout". It's an Interactive Adventure, similar to a Choose Your Own Adventure except it has one perfect ending. I just finished the first draft, so it shouldn't be much longer before it's ready to release. If you've read Tex Murphy and the Romanov Enigma, this is about the "small job" Tex does during the early part of that story.
The second book is a traditional novel (like all the previous books). It's inspired by the "Martian Memorandum" story, but completely rewritten. It takes place before "Under a Killing Moon", so it will be the new FIRST novel in the series, chronologically, and be the introduction to Tex and his world for new readers. (I know his first big case happens even earlier, but that's covered in "Tex Murphy and the Poisoned Pawn". So confusing.)
The third book, "Tex Murphy: Trance", will pick up from the end of "Poisoned Pawn" and be the grand finale of the series.
I also have a few other story ideas, which I may put out as Interactive Adventures, or in a collection of short stories.
I'll post updates at
www.aaronconners.net, and feel free to email me at
[email protected] if you have any questions or comments.
Viva la Tex!
Aaron

I just logged in after years to see what's going on (I miss this forum so much... and the people and the games and...), it's heartwarming to read this last reply from the AC. I'll be waiting for any new content!

Oh, it's real. It's been approved by Big Finish Games as a fan game. The developer recently finished up Chapter 1 and is looking to either start a Patreon or a Kickstarter to continue / complete development of the full game.
Here's the Intro Sequence redone. If you look at the rest of the videos you can see a bunch of development they've done.
