Heya all,

Then it came to Overseer, I have a problem with DVD Express (I think) I am running XP Pro with an AC97 sound card, but all the sound in-game is fine, its only the DVD movie sequences where I get no sound, a great picure, but no sound lol.
I have tried lookin in DVD Express options but I cannot see any form of audio options, it doesnt show even the digital out option as I have no digital out
So any help you can give me would be god-like lol

Find the 'Use Preferred Devices' checkbox in the audio devices config panel, and change the setting. Let me know if that works.

I went snooping around and couldn't find the option in DVD Express, RSX3D, or Overseer itself, but I found something similar in control panel which was 'use only default devices' I tried it with that box ticked and still no DVD sound

Yep, that's the panel I was referring to.
Hmm. What make and model is the AC'97 codec? Are there any apps that came with its drivers (taksbar resident)? These sometimes contain additional device settings such as speaker count etc.
Another thing I've noticed over the years is what level of hardware acceleration AC'97s are set at by default. The one I have on my mainboard (a Realtek chip) sets hardware sound acceleration to 3/4 by default after driver install, whereas you should nearly always have the slider set at 'Full' (unless you have specific issues with the drivers etc, this should always be the case).
Press the 'Advanced' button next to 'Sound Playback' in 'Sounds And Multimedia Properties' (where the 'preferred devices' is), and click the 'Performance' tab. Tell me what level the 'Hardware Acceleration' slider is set at.

Hi there, I tried changing it to no acceleration, but it didnt work, so i then put it up to full and sadly still no joy....
I am using RealTek AC97 - Driver - 5.10.0.6030
Audio Controller - Intel(ICH6) for AC97
AC97 Codec - ALC655

Leave the slider on full.
OK. A stupid question, maybe, but check the sound settings in the game itself. Is the 'Movie Volume' slider up and not muted?

Can you play regular DVDs OK? Do the C*.AP files on the disk sound OK in Media Player Classic?

You're welcome... except it doesn't look like I've been much help so far.

I loaded one up in media player, it plays fine although I do have to have the volume up on its highest setting. Maybe thats the main problem

Run dxdiag, and check all tabs are OK. It might be a good idea to do a full directsound test as well.
