Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who
I had a feeling this would be the case.
Although the BBC confirmed a series next year, not Steven nor BBC nor Jenna Louise Coleman mentioned that Matt was returning. Plus, the new story stating that Matt was returning was written in The Sun.
I'm putting my money on Ben Daniels for the next Doctor. As much as i'd love John Hurt to be the Doctor, I don't think it's going to be quite that obvious despite some plausibility to it being him.
But, as for Matt, he's been a terrific Doctor and what makes it better he's handing over the TARDIS keys while he's at the peak of his form, much like David Tennant in his time. Really proud for him, and definitely happy to have had him as The Doctor. At the same time, i'm welcoming the change too.

I'm excited to see who they will choose next. And I hope the storylines get a little better. There were several episodes I could not stand last season. Least to mention, I just could not get into Matt Smith. I do like Clara, however. And the final episode this season was quite good with how they incorporated the old Doctors. I did like Amy at first, but then she became way too uppity for a companion. It would be nice to see John Hannah as the Doctor, but I doubt they would go that "old." And I can always dream Tennant will come back...now that would be quite a surprise wouldn't it!?

I'm not a purist, in any domain. That's why I enjoyed the new Trek, and it's probably why I enjoyed Smith.
Much more than that, though, I liked Smith because his portrayal was a spitting image of lil ol me as a kid. Smith embodied the most accurate version of what a physically grown up child would ultimately look and act like, and offered us an alternate reality in which at least one person has not fully forgotten what it meant to live and love, in the non-sexualised, universal sense of the word.
Like most fans though, I look forward to who and what will come next!

Yeah, the writing for Season 7B has been mostly lacking, a real let down for what was meant to be a pivotal year in the show's history. Although The Name of The Doctor was great and we still have two specials remaining, so it's not over yet.redcat72 wrote: And I hope the storylines get a little better. As for who they choose next, prior to the announcement of Matt resigning, there have been persistent rumours that an actor named Ben Daniels will be taking the role. I'm not familiar with any of his work but he's well known on the British Law and Order show. Anyone seen him? But he definitely "looks" the part and is an older actor (age 48 I believe).
In retrospect, I really enjoyed Matt but they tried too hard to replicate the comedic qualities of Tennant's Doctor to the point that it got close to dominating Matt's Doctor. Too goofy, too wacky. The decline in ratings over the previous few years (since Tennant's departure) is a testament to this so hopefully both BBC and Moffat understand that the time to take a risk with the casting is now. That is, cut back on the fan girl type companion and give us an older, smarter and wiser Doctor.
John Hurt would be amazing, though I doubt the next Doctor is him.
