Folk and blues music legend Richie Havens has died at the age of 72 after a sudden heart attack. Havens gained fame as the opening act of the original Woodstock music festival in 1969 and went on to record over 20 studio albums. His career also included well-known commercial jingles for Folger's, Cotton Incorporated and Amtrak and acting roles in movies and on Broadway.
Fans of Tex Murphy perhaps know him best as the singer/songwriter of the song "Tex's Lament," featured in The Pandora Directive, along with "Tryin' to Try" and "Slow Down" from the Overseer soundtrack.

What a sad start of this day, I loved Richie Havens and I loved his contributions to the Tex universe. By some strange coincidence I listened to many of his songs yesterday, including Tex' Lament. While doing that I was saying a prayer that he would appear with another song in Project Fedora.
I never got to see him play live, but I had tickets for a show a couple of years ago. Unfortunately he had to cancel it due to a health issue. Rest in peace, your music will stay here as a testimonial to your life forever.

A really sad day. I would have loved for him to have been able to contribute to Project Fedora.

His album with the game brought Overseer to a new level for me - professionally written songs properly recorded and with just the right tempo and ambience. I actually loved the Overseer album because of all that.

Rest in Peace, Ritchie. I love watching him sing "Freedom" during my annual viewing of Woodstock each August. Funny having those 2 worlds intersect.

His 'Trying to Try' over the Overseer end credits always brought a lump to my throat.
