Is there any way to copy the dvd over to my computer so I can run the game from my computer?

Where there is a will there is a way....

Burn an image of the DVD using any burning utility you prefer (Nero, Roxio, etc). Then download Daemon Tools and install it. Mount the dvd image with Daemon Tools and it will show up like another dvd drive on your computer. That' how I do it on my laptop. It saves battery power by not using the DVD drive.

Do you guys know of a free counterpart to Nero or Roxio? I'd love to try ripping the DVD to hard disk. No money.

Don't you mean rip the image? I've always used Daemon Tools for mounting ISOs as well, and IsoBuster for ripping.

Ok, let's say I got ahold of ISOBuster (since it's cheaper). What is the process from there (just for ripping - I'll deal with Daemon Tools later)?

Just load up IsoBuster with the disc(s) in the drive, right-click the top of the tree (should be a CD or DVD with a disc icon) highlight 'Extract CD <Image>' and select 'RAW (*.bin, *.iso)' from the submenu.

Then, just select the file name and location to save the image.

You know, ISOBuster has a free fully-functional trial, so I was able to do it - it solves the main problems I had with Overseer kicking me out and dropping half the audio in Tex's contextual comments. Sound and video is better. This confirms that it was a compatability error with my DVD device.

But this is bizarre: the "error not defined" error that I was getting at the end of cutscenes or when changing locations disappeared. Then I began to wonder if the MIDI would work now (it didn't before). So I looked at the in-game configuration, and saw that, quite apart from anything I would do, the MIDI was inexplicably muted. When I unmute it, the "not defined" error pops up again. Simply bewildering. I wish I could get the MIDI to work - I've never heard Overseer's MIDI when I've played it before. Is there very much of it?

Now, I'm happy to say that I never need a disc to play any of my Tex games on my computer - they're all fully installed and on my hard drive. The Tex games feel so much more a part of me, now...(it's scary that I really mean that)

That's a shame, Jerry. 'Cause you're missing out on 50% of the game's atmosphere.
What's the name of the device listed in the MIDI section?

Microsoft GS Wavetable.

I wouldn't even know which locations to check to see if the MIDI is working!

What sound card/chip do you have, Jerry?

Let me check. I get conflicting reports.

It's an integrated sound card that came with my Dell Dimension 2400. System info shows two different devices, the first of which is named "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device" manufactured by Microsoft. The other one is SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio by Analog Devices, Inc. SoundMAX is the only one I've ever seen in any settings I have to tweak, like the mixer. I am guessing that they control the harware and software aspects, respectively.

Oh, and a correction: the error I get says "Error code does not indicate an error". If that's not a lame-sounding error message!
