Hey All!

I thought that since so many members have started to meet up, it'd be a neat idea to have a single thread collecting all the "proof" of these meetings, with perhaps a small anecdote. So, if anyone has any such "proof", which I've seen scattered about the board in the past, please post it here.



Fred was awesome enough to sit in traffic for well over an hour to make this meeting happen. I had just about given up on him when he finally appeared at the train station, one of the few destinations he knew of with guaranteed parking in Oslo. Together we took the tram back to my parents' place, where we were presented with a "interesting" dinner: mussels. I've had mussels plenty of times, but to Fred this was a new endeavor. By the end of the meal I'd been convinced that Fred is a very polite young man. After dinner we chit-chatted for a while, after which I eventually walked him back to the train station. But not before stopping by a comic book shop, which offered a variety of trinkets, memorabilia, and not to mention, comic books. All together, a wonderful experience, and I look forward to meeting Fred again in the future.




I met up with Mac on the Millennium Bridge in London on a beautiful October afternoon. The air was crisp, but the heat of the setting sun more than made up for it. We trekked across town for what felt like several kilometers in my not-yet-broken-in boots, and eventually reached the London Bridge tube-station, after which we took several different tubes to reach our destination due to underground construction. We finally reached Chinatown, where Demonlawyer was awaiting. Together we visited a Sushi restaurant and had a wonderful meal, and both Mac and Demonlawyer were quite wonderful hosts. After the meal, Demonlawyer parted ways with Mac and I, after which Mac brought me to a place that served a delicious variety of desserts and bubble-tea, where we conversed for some time more. It was great fun, and I look forward to meeting both Mac and Demonlawyer again sometime.

I wouldn't mind meeting some of you, any of you really, but sadly I'm not traveling anytime soon... I'm based in Baltimore Maryland though if anyone is going to be sliding through the area anytime, just hit me up and let me know... I'll treat you to a drink or lunch or something...

Redcat72, you're pretty much right down the street... Let me know if you'd like to get together sometime...

Hopefully I'll be seeing a bunch of you either next year or the beginning of 2014 at the Launch Party...

Baf, would love to catch up too sometime. Mac and I are seeing Cathy next week so its only two degrees of separation (or whatever the phrase is).

Trilaan, I'd love to meet you in SLC. I'm just not going there until 2014 I reckon. Enjoy the tour next month.

It would be nice to meet up with anyone who is heading to SLC or if anyone just wants pointers for some cool and fun places to visit or eat at I know of a few.

Can't be of much help with Centerville though, I rarely venture outside the immediate SLC valley. Although if one does decide to head further south towards Provo and love some real ice cream checkout the BYU Creamery or the various university museums.

Most of the fun outdoor activities aside from the obvious forms of snowy shenanigans have wound down. Anyone coming after Thanksgiving I do recommend checking out the Temple Square Christmas lights in the evening, just bundle up!

If there is a group coming around the same time we could organize a cool GTG.

I will be staying at a Comfort Inn & Suites in Tooele, bordering the salt lake.

For those who are airplane aficionados the Hill Air Force Base - Hill Aerospace Museum is just 30 minutes north of Centerville and is free. However I do not have any further recommendations north of SLC.

Red Iguana is a great Mexican restaurant that is Tex Team approved.
There are two locations in close proximity to each other. The original location has the most unique ambiance but is rather small. Whereas the second location is larger and the wait times are usually significantly less.

Every dish I have tried has been delectable and satisfying. I highly recommend trying out one of their Mole dishes. Also their Cochinita Pibil is awesome along with Puntas De Filete A La Nortena, mmm spicy deliciousness.

In the past I would recommend their Tres Leches for dessert but they have significantly reduced the portion size. Really a shame since theirs was amazing.

Suppose to be some great Gelato, never been myself.

A great Indian & Nepali restaurant is The Kathmandu. Excellent food and variety, lovely naan bread. Amazing flavors and they can adjust the fiery quotient for the more delicate palates. Their Lassi is a little sweet for my taste but still nice.

They have two locations I've only been to the one in the Holladay area but I imagine their downtown SLC location should be just as nice.

For those that enjoy indulging in evenings of inebriation this list compiled by the City Weekly may prove useful.

I do not frequent bars so I cannot provide any first hand recommendations but I'll ask some friends that do.

One place I can recommend for those that enjoy a place with a nice low key atmosphere that has great pool tables, food, and Fri & Sat evening live acts is Fat's Grill in the Sugarhouse area. Oh smoke free as well aside from the grill.

Typically the sounds levels, without a band playing downstairs, are often at a point that permits having comfortable conversation. I enjoy playing pool there, and has been a great place for a date, and is convenient for some Americana grub and drinks.

Moochies
Not a bar but mighty tasty subs and such.
These folks Philly Cheesesteaks are fantastic, highly recommend getting mushrooms and roasted bell peppers added on. Their Jalapeno mayonnaise is nice to add if you want a little extra zest.

I do not enjoy nightclubs so no recommendations there, although Area 51 is suppose to be fun or The Urban Lounge.

If one prefers ballroom I currently do not know of any really 'classy joints' per se but I know of several fun spots where the focus is dancing not the decor if anyone is interested.
Myself I love ballroom dancing, not great but I am enthusiastic and reasonably capable.

A few museum recommendations.

Natural History Museum of Utah is quite nice and has a beautiful view of the SL valley, especially on the observation deck. Not nearly as mind blowing as say the one in NYC but definitely worth while.

Haven't been to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art but it should be a nice one stop for some modern art, otherwise checkout the Phillips Art Gallery.

Also have yet to visit The Leonardo but I hear nothing but good things aside from the relatively high admission price. Currently they have a very cool "Da Vinci The Genius" exhibition till January.

Utah Museum of Fine Arts typically has a great cross section of contemporary and ancient art. I love this place, although parking can be a little tricky on the weekdays.

Ahhhh. I don't drink and I dislike bars.

Well, here's my proof of a UTM meeting which took place on February 7th 2009 in Sydney, Australia. My wife and I met up with Cubase and he showed us a part of Sydney, we probably wouldn't have visited if it wasn't for him. A beautiful place + we got to see his apartment (don't think he lives there anymore though)

Thank again, Cubase. It was incredible to meet you, and we had an awesome day which I still think about from time to time
