Since the Kickstarter goes until very early Saturday morning, if Tex appears in this list, could be a nice boost in funding at the final end...

Yeah sadly I think as jane said due to the number of different platforms and such it may be unlikely. Also since Tex has been out the limelight a long time the current editors making the list may be unfamiliar with the series
Though apparently they listed Pong and such, those are kind of more known in gaming history so they could even just find those on a Wikipedia list of "Games in history". Tex does deserve to be more known though in gaming history than he is considering how much they pioneered new tech and gameplay.
Don't think I'll tune in but this thread looks entertaining "Let's Laugh at this: G4's 100 Greatest Games"

I agree. Plus there is no possible way to say something is the "greatest ever" if we dont know whats coming up next in gaming.azalea_k wrote:These lists are always subjective, terrible in concept, and miss out something someone likes.
Still sometimes you can learn about a nice game you never heard of that is well liked from these kind of lists too.

Regardless, I hope the list is a thoughtful one that explains why certain games are special. Super Mario Bros. 3 is a great game because the controls were perfect, the art was excellent, the platforming was creative and challenging, advancing through all the worlds made it feel like an epic journey, and the experience was so engrossing. I do not want some jerk going "whooooaaa you can steal these little booties and stomp stuff woooo" as the core argument.
Which is probably what it will be. (Oh TechTV... you're gone but not forgotten.
)
And what criteria? Spacewar isn't a great game, but without it, none of us would be here talking about this.
Spacewar was incredibly important game in that it was the first to be played by many people on computers. I've had the honor of playing it in person on a real mainframe console at a Vintage Computer Festival:

Nolan Bushnell and Atari's first game was not Pong, but "Computer Space," an arcade version of Spacewar. But average people, who knew nothing of computers, couldn't understand it. You fly a ship around and shoot at the other ship. Rudimentary now, but at the time, average people could not comprehend this, having no experience with computer controls whatsoever. That's why Pong was a hit: Simple, easy to understand.
And no offense to anyone here, but I think Mother 3 is the greatest game ever made. But that was never released in the US, so it can't be on the list! Poo.

I'm not sure how much thought went into this list, looking at these first 20 from tonight's show, it's almost like they took a bunch of games from the 80s and 90s and put them in a hat and just started drawing names...
A couple of these games I can see on the list, but come on... If this is their line of thinking, then yeah I don't see Tex making this list, even though Pandora should make any Top Games list... A couple of these games are Strictly PC/Mac games, so at least they aren't focused on just Consoles... But who knows, I'll watch it just to see if anything I haven't played peaks my interests...

I too would just like to say that Spacewars better make the list. I was blessed to have a ported copy on a bootable floppy on one of the old computers we had in my back country school. I found it at the bottom of the crate of floppies they had in our computer class. I loved it because it was the only game that didn't involve learning.
Even today, I think the concept of two spaceships shooting each other is the basis for a LOT of games. I agree. If there wasn't a Spacewars, there wouldn't be gaming at all.

I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
What Cub said goes double for me. These lists are moronic and subjective.
Case in point? The contents of the first 20.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!

Seriously though, seconded. If there is one crime I want Nintendo tarred and feathered for, it is that. I'm not sure I'd say greatest game ever made, only because my list always ends up kinda fluid, all dependent on what mood I am in at the time, but along with FF6, and Panzer Dragoon Saga, it will remain somewhere in my top 5.
I think "Greatest ever games" lists are often just another way of saying "personal favourite games". Or if its put together by a gaming site editor "other peoples personal favourites and some of mine and then a few chucked in from a 'history of gaming' article I never played".
A lot of it does depend in that case on what you had to hand "back in the day" or your own personal experience and tastes. I could only afford one console at a time as a kid and well I think Sega consoles were cheaper and quite popular in the UK. I understand in Europe Sega Master System etc. sold more than they did in America etc. There were some really fun games on Sega consoles which are likely unheard of outside Europe. But yeah I didn't really play a lot of games back then that many consider the "greatest ever" in their experience on the Nintendo consoles. I can go back and play them now (which I have done for some titles) but I think with some games the experience was more profound playing it back in the 80s/90s when these were revolutionary.
Debates on "Which is the best Final Fantasy ever" always get really heated even though its all subjective too. I tend to feel these days that saying Final Fantasy 7 was my favourite makes me sound like a mindless fan who likes an overrated/hyped game. Which I can understand in part, but there are a lot of reasons why it was such a greatly impacting experience for me in the 90s when actually Final Fantasy wasnt that big of a name in the UK. But again it really is an individual thing and part of it was the experience of playing it back then when it was new.
I don't think I have a favourite overall games list though. Like LockeCole everything is so varied its tough to say.

I can safely say Final Fantasy 7 was my favorite, simply because I didn't know what a Final Fantasy was before I started playing it, wondering ... if it were so final, how in the world was there six of them before this?
I asked for it for Christmas because the video on TV made it look like a movie game. I didn't know it was going to be turn based fights and crap.
To this day, its one of the few games I've beaten more than once and absolutely obliterated all the content for. (Including the Emerald and Ruby Weapon ... talk about epic boss battles)
Now I've played 8 and 9 and beat those, and also beat 10, but thats where the series stopped for me, because I moved onto the Xbox and never looked back. I'm betting some of the newer Final Fantasy's are pretty slick, and I'd probably be interested in them... but nothing would interest me more, or have my money come out of my pocket quicker than a fully voiced, remastered in HD FF7. Keep hoping for this.
