Big finish games forum feedback

I know this is the unofficialtexmurphy site and most people post here currently.
But i'm sure that when the project fully launches they are going to use their own forum allot more for updates and other information.
That's why I made a post on the forum for some feedback about it.

http://www.bigfinishgames.com/forum-update

Would probably be helpful if other people also gave feedback about their forum on how it can be improved. So that when the kickstarter is complete and they will start using their forum for updates that we will have a good working forum.

i think it`s easier and more effective for them to create "backers-only" section on this already established board

Maybe but this is still unofficial while those are their official boards.
Was thinking about that not too bad if they do that they already where posting here on this forum with important updates.

I am guessing the bay city mirror will be revived or James himself will post the updates from the big finish site on here.

Any updates on the Big Finish Forum will not go unnoticed for long, and a lot of us here are already registered there too - we just visit here a little more often at the moment.

I feel like a backers only section would go largely unused.

Maybe so, in your case, because you'd be required to actually back the Kickstarter.

This community existed long before a new Tex game was a rational possibility. Even the mighty CJ and AC themselves can neither rival nor control the awesome power of this place.

Maybe UOTM should become OTM (because that's what it is), with all forum data moved to the BFG site, and the "unofficialtexmurphy.com/messageboard" permanently re-directing to the BFG forums. That is the only way.

But merging all those SQL tables sounds really scary! :(

Though not 100% sure I think the same person who did this website made the website for BigFinishGames or at least worked with them remember seeing messages about it.

That would be James, who is busy rebuilding the website (and from his recent photos rebuilding something a little bigger too).

I can't see that this forum would move. One big point to remember is that BFG is about all their games, and has the look and feel of BFG as a whole. We love Chris and Aaron and the gang, but this site has the look and feel of Tex and it is devoted to Tex entirely. I can't see this site going anywhere, even after the new Tex.

And we (well, I at least) visit BFG too - I just post far less often.

That's part of my point. Since they're both run by the same guy, calling it UTOM is a little silly. So if they merged, James would only have to worry about one forum.

Also some BBS programs can make custom skins available to users. So Tex fans can use the Tex design if they want to. I don't know if the software LeMosy uses has that ability.

Either way, I'm sticking here. I am not looking forward to managing 2 accounts and keeping track of redundant posts on both of them.

This forum is great but its likely they'll want to bring the audience of over 5,821 people to their own website and build up their userbase and brand there as a company.

But yeah the forums over there could do with a remake. Maybe use a different forum script. This one uses phpBB I think which is pretty nice and has a lot of options. Another popular one is Invision Power Board. When it comes to forums I don't think its worth reinventing the wheel, there are so many out of the box forum backends you can install and templates to edit to theme to your brand. It's like how many developers use Wordpress these days to make a blog/news website and just tweak the surface. Its also a good option because the more people use that system the bigger the community who share their addons for you to use as quick solutions (e.g. spam blocking addons, spoiler tags etc.). phpBB, Invision etc. both have an extensive user-made plugins directory.

I think like Double Fine they should do a non-spoiler and spoiler forums for the behind the scenes and development process updates.

Except originally making it I think bigfinishgames themselves maintains the site and not james.

That really did make me Image

Also many good points from all agree quite a bit with DemonLawyer about the diferences between BF and Tex specific. I will totally support anything AC and CJ do Tex and non Tex forum or website but I think either way its up to everyone what they want to do and where they go. There is room for it all and maybe wait and see what James is doing with his big update it might address all or none of these issues. Looking forward to that only second to the project Fedora! Also can't remember where but James gave a very good reason why this should remain UTM instead of OTM, Think it was in the main KS is launched thread somewhere in the 50 pages. but whatever happens wherever or whatever this turns into as long as you are all a part of it this is where I will mostly want to be as it has and will always be the Unofficial Official home, heart and soul of the Tex community for me.
