It looks like funding is back on track now, but I saw it drop $441 before I left work tonight. I was like  WTF! I hate when everyone creates their own freak-out without getting the final word from the big guys. If I see another 3 letter acronym on that comment page I'm going to jump out the nearest window.
YMCA doesn't count.

I'm with you, Jen. Everyone should have some faith in AC and CJ. They've gone out of their way to keep everyone in the loop over the years and have given very generously of their time to interact with UOTM. I have no doubt that the new Tex game will be everything we've been hoping for all these years. I only wish I had more cash to throw their way.

Yeah, Kickstarter people are super fickle. Almost every big one had some big controversy that people flipped out over.

Double Fine had people flipping out over Steam distribution and DRM.

Wasteland had a big controversy over proposed "social" elements.

Larry had a lot of flak about being a remake.

SpaceVenture ground to a screeching halt because dumbfucks thought it was a browser game because they released a silly "prototype" on Chrome.

Shadowrun had people upset because of a proposed "backer exclusive" dlc thing, much like Tex (except not exclusive to any particular tier).

This Tex DRM controversy was particularly strange because it seemed to be largely fabricated in the first place. I also read someone talking about how they were positive it would be a pre-rendered 3D game like Myst IV... Sometimes people just hear $#it in their head and run with it.

I agree, it's all nonsense, I don't know where the lying part is coming from, no matter lets just move on from this silly stuff and focus on getting the target number and beyond! :) A new tex game has never felt so in reach in a loooooong time!

I saw it too but I think it was useful as it made me realise the Kickstarter doesn't actually show any gameplay yet (was too busy being impressed by the pitch video  ). The person who posted that felt there was a focus on FMV video and wondered if it perhaps meant the proprosed budget would allow for the story/cinematics to go all out but not so much for the gameplay side in terms of fully free roaming environments compared to the budget for previous games. I think it'll be useful to include a video showing the gameplay from previous games e.g. like in James' testitmonial. Firstly because it'd be a great introduction for those new to the series and have never seen actual gameplay to know how much the game goes beyond FMV, since most other FMV games used static screens/areas youd click through. And secondly they can then also talk about how the new game will take it further. There was some great stuff in the RetroNick interview Chris said about how much he wants to make the world more immersive and seamless switching between modes during the gameplay that'd fit really well with that too. I had an idea here:

I am a bit surprised that nobody seems to have made a fully three-dimensional "first-person adventure" within the last ten years or so. You'd think it would fit perfectly into something like those CSI licensed games, where you could be looking around for evidence yourself instead of dragging a mouse over the screen for hotspots.

i thought it was pretty much achieved in overseer
("seamless switching", not immersion)
