Seriously, I have a fear of heights.
Not my greatest fear though, because I can go on my roof and up my ladders fine, but I cannot walk on the glass floor on the CN Tower in Toronto.
My greatest fear is being completely alone. Have a family now, so unless my wife dies first and my daughter hates me, I should be okay =)
My other great fear is failing at being a father, and failing at my job and not being able to provide for my family.

So I guess you wouldn't go out on this if you were to ever visit the Grand Canyon...

That would definitely be pushing it.
If the floor was concrete and i couldn't see through it, I would be fine.
Railings give me a sense of security when i am that high up, so long as it doesn't feel like I am standing on nothing. For some reason, heights of 15 feet or less, even if I am out in the open on a ladder are not so bad.

My greatest fear is the experience of not knowing...

I was going to write 'A pregnant spider crawling up my nose and laying eggs in my brain', but I think Jen called it. Feeling alone in the world is a horrible and gruesome sensation.
But also, living my life in fear and doubt and not accomplishing the things I feel I ought to.
That is also one of my fears.

Jim those are the fears I have for myself. I've lived a pretty lucky lufe with nothing seriously bad ever happening to me. I am often afraid one day my luck will run out.

I don't quite know how to describe mine. It's blood related. I hate blood coming out of anything living, including me (blood tests are my worst nightmare). I can't watch things like Interview with the Vampire or a movie I saw today where someone slit their wrists, but I can deal with other things like gunshot wounds on tv or knife attacks, or in real life where I've had to get in and rescue people that were bleeding.
I think it's to do with the blood moving rather than being static as you seem to see on tv with gunshots. I'm absolutely fine with CSI, so I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, but when it comes along I can't watch it. When it comes to blood tests I usually either faint or go hyper.
I'd make a terrible woman.

I started this thread as abit of a joke but since it has gone all serious I thought I better post my greatest fears,
I suppose its living the rest of my life on my own, at one stage I thought once my parents died which isn't far off due to their age I would have no-one. But I have now come to the conclusion that this is the way it is & its no longer a fear but a reality.
Sad but true.

I know how you feel, Lynne. But hope in this: we are part of an international brotherhood that, with any good fortune, will live on for years to come. That just might provide a small measure of comfort.

I agree with Jim - have a good support network and I'd like to think that those of us on this board are that.
It's an interesting point someone mentioned earlier here - about the greatest fear being Tex ending. But if there was a conclusion to Tex, would we still all be here??? I think without a doubt we would, but it's a worry!

I, too, have the fear of not being a good enough father. Which my little 7 year old puts to rest every time she tells me she loves me.
I fear riding in a car when someone else is driving, and it all stems back to when I drove with my daughter, who was three at the time, to St. Louis to meet up with Crystal and her girls. We went there for the weekend, and when I got to town, I was on one of the highways. I looked down for just a split second, and when I looked back up, everyone had come to a dead stop. I was about 20 feet from smashing into the rear end of a stopped car at about 80 mph. I swerved over at the last second, and almost ran into another car in the next lane. They swerved and we missed colliding. My daughter was asleep the whole time, thankfully. Ever since then, I will randomly flash back to that incident and start panicking and whenever I am a passenger in a car and someone else is driving, if they follow too close or cut in and out of traffic, I start to have a panic attack and I flash back to that day.
I think I really fear the "lack of control" when someone else drives.
