All these people who are heading to the lands above

I suppose it's sad, but then again there are a lot of new faces joining us every day and it occurred to me that we always fondly miss and are sad for those who pass on but I guess we could always look the other way and think 'hey, welcome!' to those who are joining this world today. I mean, in 20 years time we'll know some amazing new faces and think 'wow' and what some of them achieve.

I guess it's just a post for good things - we always talk about how sad we are over those who move on I thought I'd write something a bit more cheery.

The only things I've lost lately is several marbles, if you get my meaning.

Yes, let's make this a happy thread; a life to celebrate thread; a foods to eat thread; even a sewing thread!
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
I've not lost anything bad yet. I just figured we should talk about good things too.

We must find Jim's marbles...

I actually just experienced a loss. A friend suffered a massive heart attack. I never got a chance to say good bye.

It does make me appreciate the friends I still have. Life is made up of good stuff and bad stuff. You can't wallow too long in the bad stuff. I try to remember the good stuff.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.
My neighbor's brother died a week and a half ago... But there was more laughter than tears, most everyone was celebrating his life, mainly because that's the type of person he was... I can never remember ever seeing the man without a smile on his face... Even after he had to lose his leg he was still a kidder... I'd say it was about a month after he lost his leg when I saw him and he said to call him Stumpy from now on... Of course nobody did, but that fact that he said says enough about him...

I guess if this is a celebration thread, we can consider this our Thanksgiving Thread as well, for those of us that celebrate it...

Pop Quiz, can anyone tell me when the First Thanksgiving was Celebrated... And there is leniency in the question because technically there can be 3 answers...

I'll give people a couple of days to respond before I post the answer... And try to answer without searching for it online...

we could call tex in on a new case "the case of the missing marbles"
Lynne
tex murphy is back in town
We'll know he finds them when we hear roll-roll-roll-roll "OH MY HELL...!" THUMP! Probably followed by a crash, and then some groans of pain.

I don't know whether this counts as the first one, but I am pretty sure Lincoln issued a proclaimation on November 28, 1861 closing government offices for a day of thanksgiving and on October 3, 1863 he issued a proclaimation setting aside the last Thursday in November as a day of thanksgiving.
Yes Dcat, that is when Thanksgiving was declared a National Holiday, but it doesn't qualify as the First Thanksgiving... Quite a few years off for that...

Hint: Thanksgiving occurred before the United States, so that at least makes it before 1776... Not much of a hint, but a hint nonetheless...

I know the answer (and Baf knows I'm a history buff), so I won't spoil it for you.

To kick this thread back on track with the grim demeanor of a deranged baby seal (see avatar), here's food for thought:

We're ALL headed to the lands above.

I'm not so sure I want to go to the lands above... I mean most religions claim it to be "Perfect" and "White"... First off besides Snow, I don't really like the color white... Second, Who would want everything to be Perfect "ALL" the time??? How Boring would that be???

Diner Customer: hmmm These Eggs are just Perfect, I'll be back for lunch...

Diner Customer: hmmm This Tuna Fish is just Perfect, I'll be back for dinner...

Diner Customer: hmmm This Steak is just to die for and Perfect, I'll be back tomorrow to do it all over again...

Rinse and Repeat... No I don't think I could stand Eternity like that... Think about it, if you played a game of Gin Rummy, who would win??? I mean it is Perfect up there for everyone, so everyone would have to win, wouldn't they???
