when you install programs on 64 bit you have programs files 32(86) & 64 bit.
should you allow the program to install at default which is usually 32 or change it.

leave it at default, no need to change it

Yeah, I would say the same. I have Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop and I have also noticed the 2 different Program Files folders. I always leave it at default so it's easier to find out which programs are 32 bit and which are 64 bit.

One can't expect every program on the computer to be made available in 64 bit, so obviously there will always be 32 bit versions of software even though Windows is 64 bit. I haven't had any trouble whatsoever, so I would just leave it at that

Yeah you should leave it and let windows decide where it needs to go. It automatically detects the native 32-bit and 64-bit software and installs them in the right locations for you. Changing this won't make a huge different as a lot of these values are reflected in the registry anyway, but it's generally good practise to leave them at default: if, for example, you want to get an update and the default locations are there first they will look.

thanks, just confirming this was okay, my notebook is 64 & that's how I installed everything in the past.

Had a go at the windows transfer tool this time & it's quite good.

Yeah me too. I was very impressed!

When my HDD crashed, I got myself a nice SSD and installed Windows 7 on it. Runs devilishly fast! And after running windows Easy Transfer, it was like I never left!
