The Fuschia Flamingo Scene on Path C

Nothing really new here, just a little love letter.....

I just replayed The Pandora Directive tonight. The Fuschia Flamingo scene on Path C is just pure bliss, especially on a 19" monitor.

Sometimes, I get dumb and begin to prefer other games. I have the DVD edition of Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom and watching the movie files is a great thrill. This is top quality FMV, folks, and I'm not ashamed to admit I love it a great deal. I think Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell and, most of all, Tom Wilson are absolutely fantastic and the story is leaps above your average space shooter.

Then, I replay The Pandora Directive.

Suzanne Barnes, Nicolle Tindall, Chris Conners and, leading them magistrally, Chris Jones make this scene a piece of anthology. Adrian Carr's direction and editing catapult it to even higher grounds. This is FMV as it should always have been. When they'll build a videogame museum, when they'll establish a "FMV Wing", this is the scene that should be used under the title "Some of Them Got it Right". I start it with the conversation with Gus Leach, going on with Tex inviting Chelsee to the Flamingo (how insolent he is!), the musical number, Chelsee's heart breaking, Tex falling appart over a few drinks... Then, the pièce de résistance, Tex meeting Emily in her room. I guess the contrast between the A-B version and the C version makes it extra special. I personally prefer Tindall's performance in Path C. In A-B, she almost seems bi-polar, going from hopeful to scared and back in mere microseconds (kinda reminds me of the Casablanca scene with Ingrid Bergman trying to get the letters of transit from Bogart by any means necessary.) I'm not saying she's bad, it's just that it doesn't flow as naturally as with how Path C is laid out. In C, it just goes out smoothly. And I just love the way she smiles at Tex when she says: "He's drunk... and he's scaring me."

I definitely should play Path C more often.

Or some genious should find a way to watch the movie files out of the game!!!
You know, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Path C, to me was the well acted path. Even if you were used to Tex being the *nice* guy, the *bad* guy path was just so well done.

The only gripe I had with Path C at all, was the lack of a really visceral ending. I mean, yeah, I know bad guys never win, but I would've loved to have seen after I tried to shoot Fitzpatrick, that Cross, Madsen, and Tex get away with the anti-hydrogen, sell it, and post up on Bermuda or something to reap their well earned rewards ... even as World War 4 started around them. It would've been better then working all that way only to die. It's a small gripe though. And I guess that's what I get for trying to be the bad guy. I always seem to take that path first instinctually. On the plus side you get James Earl Jones ... but you know ...
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
I have yet to play path C.

I really need to, it sounds heaps of fun!
Atomicvegetable: You owe it to yourself to play Boulevard of Broken Dreams at least once in your life. It's part of the whole Pandora experience. I won't say it's a whole new game because it isn't. Still, there's enough difference between A-B and C to feel confortable telling you you're not done experiencing Pandora to its fullest.

Mr. Thomas Malloy: I understand your feelings about a lack of a "good ending" for the "bad guys" but I don't share them. First, there's a way to survive Path C by refusing both Regan and shooting Fitz. Granted, the reward is much less appealing than the "Atomic Mai-Tais" you're proposing but, still, you can evade James Earl Jones' cameo. Besides, I dig the baddest ending where Tex proves to be more resourceful than Cross and Regan. In a way, I don't want Bad Tex to survive because I wouldn't want to follow him after that case. I much prefer Good Tex and I like Normal Tex even better. Both Good Tex and Normal Tex feel legitimate enough to continue their life. As for Bad Tex, he's just so out of character I don't feel he's legitimate to survive.

Still, I don't think you're crazy to wish for a better ending. It's just not how I feel about this.

By the way, I want to say that the original poster of this thread is an idiot. Yep, the guy just can't seem to put his Ss at the right place. Hey, twit, it's Fuchsia, not Fuschia!

(Original poster: Sorry about that.)
Besides an angry, get even, go-for-the-moolah Tex, let's not forget the three choices at the end of the game. Some great direction there as well.

Tex: "We're screwed."

Fitzpatrick: "No! Dead!"

Great stuff!
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
Been a long time since I played that part. Great stuff though, the actors brought a lot of life and character to their... er... characters :)

*thinks* I think I may spell it wrongly too? It looks better the mis-spelt way! Or was it just that it got in my head from reading this thread (probably haha).... Well it wouldn't be the first time I suddenly realise I spell something wrong ages later though (then I have to try and get the mis-spelt way out my head, easier said than done)

Wow! Path (C), four endings, with three of then leading to Tex's demise - now that's truly hard to accept! While I've played Pandora too many times to remember, I just haven't been able to write Tex's obituary on path (C's) ending. Perhaps that's because I'm not prone to be attracted to the Dark Side of things. I can handle a weary and cynical Tex that path (C) offers, but not a dead Tex. I'd much rather see Tex redeem himself as a clown and survive rather then putting himself in his grave. But then again as Valynis pointed out to Atomicvegetable "You owe it to yourself to play Boulevard of Broken Dreams at least once in your life. It's part of the whole Pandora experience. I won't say it's a whole new game because it isn't. Still, there's enough difference between A-B and C to feel confortable telling you you're not done experiencing Pandora to its fullest." Oh well, I guess I'll just have to resign myself to the fact that regardless of Tex's faith in path (C's) ending, Tex lives on! And once I get up enough courage I'll be headed back down path (C), but this time I'll be giving into Regan's seductive powers.

I never made it to path C :(. Neither did I to path A :(. I always ended on patch B, on way or the other.

Is there a walkthrough that tells you *exactly* how to get to path C and stay there and the same to A?
"Wer ein holdes Weib errungen..."

"My religion is the one in which Haydn is pope" - by me.

"Set a course, take it slow, make it happen."
yeah, i found one a while back to help me stick to path A and get Chelsea. I always had problems straying from path B too.

Here's the link. http://www.gamerankings.com/itemranking ... wid=369437
I find path C to be extremely difficult. I mean, I know exactly what I have to do (thanks to JTOG's walkthrough), but it is really hard to steer Tex down such a dark path and force him to be so cruel and self-serving.

I know it's only a game. But I like Tex and many of the characters so much, I just can't do it.
That's my problem, DrPaul. I mean, it never occurred to me until I read this thread that I should try and play the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Now I think I might try to tough it out. :)
Jerry, it's well worth the effort
I did it once. But I'll tell ya. Once was enough. Maybe more than enough. I mean...you gotta shoot Fitzpatrick for Crissake! I felt *really* lousy betraying Fitz like that. Except for satisfying some morbid curiosity, I did not enjoy path C at all.
I think the diversity that comes with having 7 endings (or three paths) is a really good thing. It is testament to the attitude of the player towards the characters in the game, and whether or not they get rewarded to face the consequences.

Needless to say, I got path B Holodate first time I played... but after finding out from Aaron that the Holodate ending was the game's true ending it made me feel better that I was in a very 'Tex' frame of mind throughout the game. I mean, Tex ain't no angel.

-Cub. =o)
Yeah, holodate was my original ending too. ^^
