*Edited due to Misinformation on my part...

What is your modern systems specs???

There are ways to run all 5 games on newer operating systems... Overseer is a little hectic, but the other 4 can all run perfectly smooth if you install everything properly...

You should be able to play all of the games on that machine. It'll probably be easier to setup and play the CD Version of Overseer.

I believe Windows 95 still had a fully functional DOS version instead of Command Prompt, but I'm not sure....been a really long time.

System Requirements for UAKM
  • 386/25 MHz CPU (This is not the same as 386 MHz it is pre-Pentium)
    4 MB RAM
    2 MB hard drive space
    SVGA display (VESA compliant)
    Soundcard
    CDROM Drive
System Requirements for Pandora
  • 486/66MHz CPU (This is not the same as 486 MHz it is pre-Pentium)
8 MB RAM for DOS, 12 MB RAM for Windows
    20 MB hard drive space
    SVGA display (VESA compliant)
    Soundcard
    2x CDROM Drive
System Requirements for Overseer
  • 133MHz Pentium Processor for CD Version, 233MHz for DVD version
16 MB RAM for CD Version, 32 MB RAM for DVD Version
    35 MB hard drive space
    2 MB Video Card
    16-bit Soundcard
4x CDROM Drive, or DVD Drive

Basic requirements is one thing, but to prevent choppy movie scenes in Pandora and Overseer, a slightly stronger machine I would suggest...

Ignore Bafitis. He has a tendency for foot in mouth disease. He likes to talk at times about things he's convinced of. Currently he has convinced himself that the Pentium II you ordered is really a 286. He is confusing 266MHZ with a 286 cpu (which would have been 8-12MHZ). The system you ordered should be more than capable.

I find it easier to run UAKM and PD on a modern computer using DOS BOX. It will be much faster because there is no need for using a CD ROM drive. You also won't have the "too much memory," problem you may face with 64MB of RAM.

If you want help running UAKM and PD on a modern machine I can help you out. It's rather simple and it works great. Running Overseer on a real Win95 machine is actually smarter than running it on a new machine.

Yes I did confuse 266 with 286 in my first post, my apologies for speed reading...

But I still think that a min of 333 would be better suited for Overseer along with a 4mb Video Card... Regardless of what the Min Requirements suggest... To run the movie scenes and dialog smoothly that is...

As suggested though, it's quite simple and less painful to run the first 4 games in Dosbox, it has been proven to be very good and reliable with older games...

Well he is likely playing the CD version of OVERSEER with Win95 and a P2. So I'd think 266MHZ should be fine. It all depends on the video. We have no idea about the video.

Yes, in an older computer, if you have a good enough Video Card and Memory, the DVD Version is much better, no hassle of disc swapping and it plays much smoother...

What type of Video Card do you have in this older machine you purchased??? You never said in your Specs...

You said you are going to be running Windows 95...

I think this is kind of a long way to finding out, it's been so long since I've worked with Windows 95, if someone knows a quicker way, please share...

It should pop up somewhere when you boot up the computer, before it goes into Windows...

But if you don't notice it there, just go into your Control Panel and go to Device Manager and look for Display Adapters, look at the properties for your Display Adapter and if it doesn't give you any specs, just come here and ask {giving us the Display Adapter Name and Info} or you could probably Google it yourself and it should probably be one of the first links that come up...

Windows 95 and DVD drives are picky is the reason I mentioned. If a movie will play on it, you'll be fine for Overseer.

Welll got a lot of old PCs so...

lotus_j: not completley true somethimes video works but Overseer doesn't - altough it usally does

Bafitis: The video card won't show if there aren't any drivers installed and also not all grapich cards have BIOS that shows the model at the start

texmurphy4ever: Yes Windows 95 have full DOS - DOS 7/7.1 to be exact. It was created for Windows 95/98. It's completley compatibile with the older ones and runes better and faster the the older ones!

Oh man always when somebody is upgrading their PCs (in offices usally) i take the old ones for free. Got about 8 PCs right now and can make "Tex Murphy ready" if anyone is ever in Slovenia can pick em up. :D
