Have been playing Overseer now for days on XP and it is running fine. But am now in Anasazi Ruins trying to place the trap to entice the snake away from the gold brick. Have built the trap correctly but when I try to place it, it keeps jumping back into inventory and I forever hear Tex comment "well that won't work".
Is there a patch needed, a glitch here perhaps or what am I doing wrong? AM I going to have to seek a saved game?

there is a certain spot that you need to be for it to work, I get to the left of the snake & then point it at the snake, just keep on trying & it will work.

Hate to say this but been there and done that - was told by one person that you needed to get to left of snake, down in the pit and just peer over the top.
Believe me I have tried every position possible and it is the same this time and as it was when I first played the game long ago.
I finally had to resort to a saved game. My PC tech told me that though he is not into gaming much it sounded like a program that might reach a glitch with one of my files on the PC. Not being much of a techy myself do not know, just know I was all over that room, in and out of the pit, trap on top of the snake, trap to left/right of the snake, in front of the snake - and still the trap kept jumping back into inventory. That made me think it was a glitch somehow elsewise I would have thought the trap would have stayed put but the snake just would not leave the brick until the trap was just in the right place.
Thanks for trying to help - nice to get sympathy support

when I play overseer I have do this part a few times, you have make sure you have looked at everything (snake & brick) I hope this is not a stupid question but you do have raymond under the trap I hope.
I have never been in the pit only to the left. It does work but sometimes like I said before it takes a few goes.

Nope I have tried everything anyone has suggested. And yes the trap is built correctly. Have been in the pit to left, in the pit to right, in the pit center to place the trap; have been out of pit to the right, to the left, center and every place I can think of to stand; have placed that trap every where by the mouse. All to no avail. When I played the game first time around it was the same issue - had to resort to a saved game there. And am resorting to a saved game again. Would like to find out what is the problem here so everyone who sends me a suggestion, I try it

but so far no snake in trap.

Well, that's your problem: the snake is on to you. You've been dancing around the room so long that it knows you're up to something.

okay I have now played the part where you have stuck, make sure you have viewed the snake & tex says he needs something to bait the snake. I am standing on the left wall & place the trap where the snake is, so the curser star should be on the brick/snake & there you have it. It loads the FMV of the snake scene. It did crash But it reloaded & the second time it was fine.
hope this works for you now

A smart what? I'm very clearly a frog.
Seriously - I wasn't trying to make light of nondaj's plight: I wouldn't know what to do with the "p". If I could get Overseer going I would try to help, but since I can't, I thought I'd add a little levity. Hope no offense was taken.

Thanks for the offer, plumgas, but my problem is that I don't have my Overseer discs anywhere handy (we moved recently). Thanks again, though.

Been so busy trying that snake bit that I finally went on with a saved game and am now trying to outrun Big Jim Slade. But do want to go back and try some suggestions new to me that were just made. Want to know why I can't ever get by this part in this game. Keep you posted if I am successful.
Also want all to know have been able to get both UAKM and Pandora up and going on my XP with DosBox .070. Working fairly smoothly too. So now am into all three games going and trying to keep track of all three story lines. DosBox works fine for both user here and her PC. Tried VDMS and it froze both user and computer though it seems to be a magic pill for other users.
Thanks for all the support and re the frog and his comment - hey levity is the name of the game when things get sooooo frustrating. What would we ever do without a laugh or two

yes the latest dos box works very well, I gave up on VDMS long ago.
A little hint if you can't get across gallery floor before you jump down to cross the floor (alt +f keys) this turns the alarm off.

Kudos to Plumgas - you solved my dilemma re the snake! After all this time and all the advice I have received, you are the first to alert me to listen to Tex saying he needed to bait the snake and then placing the trap WITH THE CURSOR
STAR on top of the snake and brick. I had placed the trap on top of the snake as advised but was not specifically told about the little cursor star and that seemed to be the clue.
So now I know neither my disc nor the PC is compromised in this game and can rest easy. May be replaying it in the far far future and will remember this spot for sure
Thanks again Plumgas - will return to you if I have further problems.
