Pandora with Dosbox

Drive F: is a Burn Drive, correct??? No need to have more than One Burn Drive, if you end up replacing Drive E:, just go with a Standard CDROM or DVDROM, no need for another Burn Drive...

Pandora can be purchased on eBay or Amazon, usually for under 15 bucks, in some cases under 10...
If you get over to eBay within the next day, I saw one auction currently 2.99 with 3.53 shipping... It's the Game and the Novel... I'd jump on that if I were you, if you feel you need to replace your CDs, might as well get the Novel with it if you can...

Yes drive F is a dvd burning drive so if replace E drive will make it just a plain drive. Never did understand the need for two burning drives anyway.

Made a bid on game on ebay! So we shall see.
Not sure I understand your saying you are glad I got the game Pandora going? I got the swapt disc drive to say put disk in E drive but PC will not recognize the E drive so cannot as yet play Pandora. Am still going to give UKAM a whirl soon.

Open the config.ini in the C:\Pandora folder with notepad. Make the following changes to the section [CD_MAP]

Disk1=F
Disk2=F
Disk3=F
Disk4=F
Disk5=F
Disk6=F
Save and try to play the game. Let us know how it goes. This will help us determine problems with the E Drive or the actual cd.

OK did as you said and sure enough the swap disc window now said to insert disc into drive F but again my PC is not recognizing it! Keeps telling me to put a disc in drive F. Am more confused than ever now unless this means the disc is no good. But I would think one would get a differing kind of message rather than non recognition of a disc being present.

It sounds like the disc is the problem not your CD/DVD drives.

Try to copy all of the contents from the scratched CD to a folder on your desktop. Did you get any errors?

Every time I try a copy method I get the same old message - please insert a disc in Drive E or please insert a disc in Drive F. So guess it must be the disc!

Have a bit out on Ebay for a new game of Pandora so will see how that turns out. Never have done the EBay bit before - hope all goes well.

ah ha did not try the other discs - will now do so. So far it just is saying this with Disc 1
Mystery resolved! All other discs are just fine and upon real close examination of disc 1, I discover what I thought was a scratch is really a crack! It runs from mid center clear to the actual center of the disc. How that happened have no idea since I am very careful when handling discs.

So all the hard work here is for naught? Not really - I learned a tremendous abount along the way.

So waiting to hear from EBay to see if I won my bid for the game. If so - now what to do with other other five discs?

I had a disc actually break into from my Riven set. Maybe the desert heat gets to them.

So when get another game of Pandora will install from all instructions from you and Nilo, then pop back to let you both know am off and running in the game.

Now for UAKM:)
When you get a new game set, just keep the other 5 discs as backups.

Well you learned which files to download from Nilo's site...
  • DOSBox0.72 win32-installer - If you do not have DOSBox currently installed.
    dosbox.CONF
    VDMSound
    VDMS LaunchPad
    Pandora for DOSBox0.72
    and not
    Pandora for XP
Then you learned to how to edit the C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.conf file for your current system.

mount F F:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl

Followed by editing the C:\Pandora\config.ini based on your dosbox.conf file

Finally, you discovered the game disc had a crack not a scratch meaning your CD Drive was not faulty.

Should help when installing UAKM with the instructions and files from Nilo's site.

Yeah a Cracked Disc would do it alright...

Have not checked lately - the novel one with game last time I did check, I was outbid. Should go back and see what is happening.
Yeah I saw that one... With the Book being included, that's a good set...

My other bid is still open so will see how it fares. Also SanGUI, yep not disappointed at all re Pandora - always ready to learn something about my PC not matter what.

So have to dig out UAKM and see what I can do with it. Keep you all posted. Hoping I can do it on my own this time around but one never knows. If I remember last time I ran into crashes in UAKM along the way so we shall see what happens this time:)

You don't have a Custom Computer, so all instructions outlined in this Thread should work... I would say that the Cracked CD of Pandora was a big problem... UAKM Should Hopefully work just fine... Best Of Luck With It...
