The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it
The Box is an old Twilight Zone story, so no wonder it feels X-Files-y.
However, Baf? Baffy ol' boy? Baferino? I SEE WHAT YOU DID! The movie is NOT called that! Quit stuffing things into my subconscious that shouldn't be there! I'm ON to you!!
Now I'll have to re-read all of Bafitis' posts just to surgically remove the damage I'm sure he's put in the back of my brain. His posts is like watching the first half of Fight Club - lots of blips that's there that you know shouldn't be there...
AAAAAAGGGH THE COMBINATION OF FIGHT CLUB BLIPS AND BAFITIS GAVE ME A HORRIBLE MENTAL IMAGE AAAAAAA MAKE IT GO AWAY MAKE IT GO AWAAAAAY WHERE IS THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE I NEED TO JUMP MY EYEEEEES AAAAAAAGH!!
In other news: I'm nearing completion on my bit. You'll love it.
Also, the last film I saw was Outlander. Basically, it's Aliens vs Predator meets Vikings. If you can ignore the fact one of the characters is named Boromir, and the main female lead's name is Freya (goddess of fertility in the norse pantheon), and perhaps ignore the way they mangle names like Gunnar and Bjørn, then sure, it's a fun film. Well-directed, with that guy who played Jesus as a starship pilot who messes up and lands in Norway in the year 709 AD, and gets into a tangle with two tribes of vikings at war, led respectively by John Hurt and Ron Perlman. It's also got a scene where a christian priest gets treated like Kermit the Frog, which was pretty funny. And oh yes, the big scary alien that mangles and eats people. There's that.
In fact, go see it. Chances are you'll enjoy it. I might just be biased because, well, unlike John Hurt and Ron Perlman, I'm actually norwegian

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Oh, sure. Just draining some mental slurry, I guess. Can't have a valve blow up or something
Alright, back to work.

Watched Daybreakers and Defendor...
Both weird movies... I can't give either more than 2 stars out of 5... {that's how Netflix rates movies, a 5 star system}
Defendor, not to mention is misspelled, Woody Harrelson plays a mentally challenged man who goes out and fights crime because of what happen to his mother when he was a kid...
Naturally if you are into the whole Superhero thing you're gonna end up watching this, just because it is about a Superhero who isn't super at all, he has no special abilities, except he proves that he can take a punch... lol
Daybreakers is a Vampire movie... Ethan Hawke plays a Vampire Scientist... In the near future, 2019, some sort of virus has changed a majority of the population into Vampires, and with there being a lack of Humans, the blood supply is running out and it's up to people like Ethan Hawke's character to find a Synthetic of some kind that will sustain their ongoing thirst...
Like I said, both weird movies and neither will I probably watch again...

La Femme Nikita
I've always been interested in watching the original movie that became the jumping block for the Bridgette Fonda movie "The Point of No Return," the television series and countless other movies and stories involving some sort of female assassin. With Luc Besson directing I thought it would be awesome.
And then I started watching it and immediately didn't like the main character because she was a moron. Half the time she's a dumbass moron, the other half she's just a regular moron, but as I continued watching the movie I realized every character in this film was a moron.
And then there was like, no action scenes. There's this big shootout at the beginning, then another shootout towards the middle and then there's nothing. Just a whole bunch of nothing. Some more people get shot, but this is definitely not the explosive action packed action I expected. This was more like some action was packed in the action and the rest was just filler to make it seem like exciting stuff was happening and then the main character is crying again and her lips are spreading so wide and thin they've become horrible and monstrous and Jean Reno is playing the badass but he's an even bigger moron than she is...
But then, I realize, the whole concept is retarded. Oh yeah! Let's just grab some drugged up thugs from off the street and turn them into assassins! That doesn't sound convoluted at all! It's an idea that's so stupid that only the French would buy it!
Nikita was a French movie? Oh, then that makes sense.

Nice review, Vracar. Next time, don't hold back.
Last night we watched Forbidden Planet (from Netflix). This 1956 sci-fi movie was WAY ahead of its time and is still a good watch. If you have not seen it you may want to. Yes, the special FX are not what we are now used to seeing, but its still one of the best of the oldies. For comparison, The Thing - original - was WAY better than the remake even tho' the remake had incredible FX. You may want to see that one as well.

Watched Stalag 17 recently... I don't know why, but I just love this movie... When I heard about Peter Graves dying, it just made me want to see it, so I put it at the top of my Netflix list... A great movie... Graves plays the bad guy in this movie and dies at the end, but still a wonderful performance... This movie is from 1953 and is about a German Prison Camp from WWII...

Been a Big Movie week... Not only did I watch a couple of Netflix movies, I also went to the local Drive-In for a Dusk Till Dawn feature they had this weekend, they hold it every year on Memorial Weekend... 4 Movies for only 8 bucks a person, can't beat that...
Okay, lets start off with Netflix movies...
I watched The Road, starring Viggo Mortensen... This movie is based on a post-apocalyptic world and is about a Man and his son trying to survive by any means necessary... Not a bad story for that type of movie, but very slow and boring if you aren't watching it for its poetic sense...
I also had Sherlock Holmes from Netflix... Not a bad movie, very good action and characters... I'm not a Downey fan, but I did like Sherlock Holmes... If you're a Holmes fan, which most of you should be since were all here for the Detective type stuff, then I definitely recommend it...
Now for the Drive-In movies...
Shrek IV {or V if you count the Christmas Special}... Shrek wasn't too bad, I expected to be disappointed with it being the 4th movie... But they gave it a good twist which branched it out from the others... So if you've been a Shrek fan I do recommend seeing it... Plus it is also in 3-D... Of course the Drive-In doesn't have 3-D, so I didn't get to experience that... But Shrek gives away a day from his past so he can Feel like an Ogre again, but he is manipulated into giving away the day he was born, so that everything he knew never existed and the world is changed for the worst because of it... And so on and so forth the hero must save the day...
The Losers... Your basic Special Forces Team/Mercenaries Revenge movie... Just enough story to make the Action worth watching... It is centered around a team of 5 soldiers who are thought to have been killed and framed for the death of several civilians in Bolivia... So they remain out of sight and out of mind until a mysterious stranger offers them revenge on the one who framed them and their lives back... So of course they accept it and thus a battle rages on... Good comedy spots as well as the action... A fairly good movie that is worth watching...
Shutter Island... Some of you have seen it, but all of you should... It is a very good movie, even though for me it was pretty predicable... But it is something I'll watch again for sure, like I said it's a very good movie and if you are into Suspense and Mystery then I highly recommend it...
Robin Hood... Okay I really didn't like this movie... Not only is it another Robin Hood, it is another Robin Hood who can't speak with an English Accent... Plus everything is just twisted from what we've been shown and led to believe in any other Robin Hood movie... When is Hollywood gonna learn just to leave sh;t alone... Sometimes it isn't worth remaking and remaking and remaking movies, especially when you are going to try and twist it into something else... It's Robin Hood, so basically everyone is going to watch it, but if you've read this, you can't say you weren't warned...
Okay I think that is it for movies I haven't reviewed before, below is one I'm pretty sure I did before...
The Stepfather... The new one, not the one from 20 years ago... Even though they aren't much different... Still it is a fairly good movie, worth watching if nothing else seems to be grabbing your attention... No real need to go out of your way to watch it though, but I caught it on TV Saturday, so while reviewing I figured I'd throw it in here...
It's basically about a guy who has a mysterious past and doesn't want to reveal anything about himself to people... He is in search for the perfect family, but can't seem to find it anywhere, so he kills them and moves on to the next family hoping they will be the perfect fit for him... And the oldest kid in his current family figures him out and together with his girlfriend and mother, they come out victorious...

Interesting reviews, Baf, and surely worth noticing.
We watched an unknown movie entitled Inalienable. The cast were taken from various TV shows and starred people like Walter Koenig and Marina Sirtis. Do NOT rent this movie! It was horrible! That's all I am going to say.
As far as Sherlock Homes is concerned, we thoroughly enjoyed that movie. Some times it is wise to include twists and turns from the currently acceptable norm. For example, Jude Law as Watson was superb AND he was NOT your normal, everyday Watson! The story, though a bit dark, was quite Holmesish and captivating. Also, Downey's personification of the famous 19th century detective was spot on, as the English would say. We hope they make a sequel - and soon!

Watched Mel Gibson's Edge Of Darkness... I would have to say that this is probably one of his better films since the Lethal Weapon series...
The basic story has been done to death though... Cop avenging the death of a loved one, in this case his daughter... But it has some twists that make it its own movie... And as I said it is one of Mel's better performances since Lethal Weapon...
If I tell you anything more about it, it will basically give away the movie, so if you've ever been a Mel Gibson fan, I definitely recommend this movie to you...

I prefer the british tv series. It had elements of science fiction in it, and a completely different story to tell. What the americans did with it was basically cannibalize it for the human stories in it, and discard the rest. Wham - instant actionfilm with Mel Gibson.
On a sci-fi note, I've seen two of those lately.
The first one was Pandorum, which was a pretty clever film about a couple of just-woke-up-from-hypersleep crewmen aboard a gigantic spaceship that has, apparently, not been able to make it to it's destination. Their cargo: Nothing short of the remainder of humanity. Very decently done, this one. It's got a lot of twists and turns and you're being kept on the edge of your seat a bit. Always a plus in my book.
The other one was Moon. It's basically about a guy named Sam serving out the last few weeks of his term on a one-man operation based on a lunar facility. On the dark side of the moon. He's responsible for sending off packages of Helium-3, which in turn supply the Earth with all it's electricity needs. But then Sam starts feeling a bit poorly, and starts to hallucinate. Another very clever film. Lots of references and nods to 70's and 80's science fiction films. This one especially I recommend to all my friends.
That includes you lot.
