It was a burned copy. Someone got it for me, so it isn't an official dvd with subtitle menus.

Well those can have display issues as well... Couple have been a copyrighted thing that caused the text to be a different color than it might normally be...
Either way, I don't really care for having to "Read" movies anyway... Might as well pick up the book if you're going to do that... I mean while you're focusing on reading the subtitles you're missing actions happening in the movie...
Saw Angels and Demons... Very good movie, I might even venture to say better than the Di Vinci Code... I'll say this, you don't have to read the book to follow along with this one... The Di Vinci Code was almost a "Must Read" in order to understand why certain things were happening... Angels and Demons was much better in reference to this... Both movies a very good movies, I recommend seeing them both...

The Road.
Worth seeing, but not the feel good movie of the season.
I suggest reading the book first. There is so much of the inner voice that you can't capture on the big screen without (often cheesy) voice over. They obstained.

Saw two movies last weekend.
First, Fire in the Sky.
I hadn't seen that movie since I was 11..... and it still made me feel quite
uncomfortable. Of course, when I was 11, it scared the living crap out of me.
The movie is about a logging crew that see a flying saucer in the woods. One of them, Travis Walton, goes to get a closer look and gets abducted. Most of the movie is about how the crew is affected by this, but it builds to eventually show what happened to Travis... and this scene alone is intense. Makes the whole movie.
The film also stars Robert Patrick, of T-1000 fame. His performance is good as always. Very versatile actor.
Second Movie was New Moon.
Wife wanted to see it. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and was much better than Twilight. Still not something I would have seen on my own, but it was okay. Had enough action to keep me interested. Jacob was on steroids... there is no way he could have gotten that big in the 6 months between shooting without taking something. I like Edward better. Heard the 3rd one will have the most action... so maybe that one will be more guy oriented, but probably not.
Want to see the Road.

Saw The Ugly Truth recently... Pretty funny movie... It's basically about a girl and a guy and the girl wants to learn how to appeal to men, so the guy gives her tips and whatnot... A lot of funny moments, but in the end it feels like a chick flick...

We watched Avatar in 3D on Friday and I must admit this is the movie experience of the 21st century. Utterly fantastic with incredible special effects and a frightfully intense story line. Do yourself a favor and see this movie in 3D ASAP! You will NOT be disappointed.

JTOG, I'll be posting my review on Avatar in 3D in just a while. I'm going to see that one with a friend in a few hours.

Plan on seeing Avatar in the next couple weeks.
5 movies recently but am only posting reviews for movies I have not previously reviewed.
The Hangover. This movie was funny and had its moments, but I didn't feel that it lived up to the hype. Everyone said it was the funniest movie that they have ever seen, but I didn't feel that. Don't get me wrong; I still thought it was good; I just wasn't falling off my seat. Bruno, I thought was funnier. Maybe I just have a sick sense of humour.
Four Christmases. This was okay.... Not even close to as good as The Hangover. It had some moments, but did not feel like a Christmas movie. It was completely devoid of Christmas spirit.

Avatar in IMAX 3D. Gorgeous.
I agree with Jim, go see it.
Sherlock Holmes. Dear goodness, could someone PM me with what happened in the last 5 minutes? The film broke in the theatre, lights came up. But when they went back down and the movie started up again, the credits were rolling! ARGH!!!
A Single Man- A wonderful period story of love and loss, and dealing with the heartbreak that remains. Colin Firth was simply touching.

Sherlock Holmes is next on our list. We have been avid S.H. fans for decades. Our favorite portrayer of the famous detective is Jeremy Brett. Hoping Downey comes thru as we expect he will.
Sorry to hear of your problem at the show. They should let you watch it again for free.

Well, I got back from Avatar just a little while ago. Truly amazing job and a captivating story. Was it just me, or did the scenery in the movie remind others of Riven (and some of the other Myst games). Some of the plants in particular look like they could have been influenced by Myst.

My thoughts exactly, JC. I remember playing Mysterious Journey and it seems to me there were a number of floating mountains/islands. Regardless, the scenery was truly fantastic.

17 Again... Not a bad movie, wasn't as funny as I expected it to be... Comedy, Romance, Dramas just don't sit well with me for some reason... Romance Drama, okay... Romance Comedy, okay... But put Comedy and Drama together, I just can't swallow too well...
Still an okay movie for those types where Mr. Destiny steps in and lets someone relive their life and whatnot...

Watched District 9 and thought it was a good movie. It seems the 2nd half was more interesting than the first.
Last night we watched Angels and Demons. Really good movie; as much as we enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, this was even more exciting. We recommend it.
We also rented Julia and Julie - the absolutely feel good movie of the year. This is a superbly acted true story (Hollywoodized a bit) and Meryl Streep deserves an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Julia Child. We highly recommed watching this funny, witty and delightful film.
Sherlock Holmes on New Year's Day is next. A little Jaws music right now would build further anticipation.

Sherlock Holmes will probably be my next movie to see as well. I know some people are reluctant to see it because it appears to contain much more action and violence than the original Sherlock Holmes stories. Still, I figure there's nothing wrong with a new viewpoint on a character or story...all the better to see it and draw your own conclusions.
