The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it
My wife and I are both 56 years old and have been married 34 years, so that may explain what I'm about to say. . .
We watched "Up" last night. There's a montage early in the movie about a love story. I cried. I'm not ashamed.
The movie was wonderful. Especially the "dogs playing poker" scene.

I'm not ashamed to say I cried buckets while watching Up. Even though I felt it was kinda predictable what was going to happen to Ellie, it still cut me up watching those scenes. They displayed so much emotion in those scenes without any talking. Pixar always does such a good job. Those people know how to tell a story.

1. Watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and it is a most interesting movie. We enjoyed it immensely! I highly recommend it if you have not seen it.
2. Watched The Day the Earth Stood Still: Remake and I must say I really like this movie. However, I am still disappointed in the ending. But, if you watch it a second time, the ending makes more sense in view of events leading up to it.
3. The other day we received The Maltese Falcon from Netflix. I never tire of watching this superb film. In fact, any Bogart movie is worth watching more than once.
This coming week I am going to get Star Trek and watch it a million times - maybe more. Could be the best Trek ever!

Got The Taking Of Pelham 123 from Netflix this week... Pretty good film... I never saw the original so I can't compare the two...
I really don't think that there is a part that Travolta can't play...

Went and saw Old Dogs and Couple's Retreat tonight... Both Funny movies... Not quite as funny as I expected them to be, but still good movies... This is why I don't listen to Critics, because they said that Old Dogs wasn't any good and wasn't worth paying to watch... I disagree with them wholeheartedly...
Can't beat the Drive-In, 3 movies for 8 bucks a person... The 3rd movie was Disney's Christmas Carol... But I've already seen that and posted a review about it... Not quite as good as the 3D in the Theater though...
I don't know how many of you have Drive-Ins close to you, there are only about 400 left in this Country, not sure how popular they are elsewhere... But I like the Drive-In... You don't have to hear everyone else talking or people walking in front of you and you can turn up the volume if you want...

Got three more movies to post.
1. Remake of The Time Machine again.
Never saw the original but plan to.
I just really like this movie. I'll admit, the Morlocks are cheese, but I really like the Uber-Morlock. And I really enjoyed the time travel parts and the interpretation of the
future. Also takes a completely different perspective on why we cannot change the past, where every other movie allows the changing of the past that has detrimental consequences on the future.
2. Frequency.
Another movie that involves time. Great movie. Ending was just a little convoluted, but still a great film overall. Deals with a son in 1999 being able to change the past by talking to his father in 1969 through a AM radio. He is able to because of some sun spot phenomena. Cool film for anyone that likes time movies.
3. 2012
Excellent film if you are looking for a movie where the world blows up.
Plot is a little thin, though, and the close calls begin to get a little ridiculous towards
the end. I kept feeling like these people should have been dead 100 times over.
Woody Harrelson was by far the best actor in the film. Overall, a fun movie and effects romp, but just a little thin on story.

Saw Christmas Carol in 3D!!! This film must be seen in 3d to get the full effect. They really made use of it in this film.
The special effects in this movie were awesome and some parts were creepy.
Some new stuff was added just for the special effect factor too, but were added tactfully.
My biggest complaint, though, is what was removed. Tiny Tim had only a couple of lines in the film. His speech was completely removed!! I don't know what the director was thinking in removing this... as it provided the biggest emotional impact in the book.
Overall it was a decent film, in its own way, but lacked some of what previous versions had.

Well I took in Zombieland the other day, and even with all the positive reviews and the best cameo in the world by Bill Murray, I dunno, I just felt a bit underwhelmed.
To be honest, it was worthwhile to sit and watch, but I guess I have just been over saturated with zombie movies. In this movie the zombies are fast and will eat you in a heartbeat. Sort of like how they moved in 28 days later. And to me, this is the main problem. I know they wanted to try to break the cliche of most zombie movies by making things "the same but different" but with all the zombie movies out there, "the same but different" is becoming cliche itself.
You see in the original zombie movies, the zombies plodded after you. It may take them a moment to make it to you, but the trick was they instilled a feeling of dread in you as they plodded ever so closely to you ... it was what brought the terror out of the movies for me. The sense of impending doom .. (thanks Gordon Fitzpatrick ...)
But these "fast as all hell zombies" don't instill a feeling of anything like that. Not even panic for me. It just doesn't feel the same to me. If they're moving as fast as they are, there is no way that these guys should even still be alive. I mean really. I know they explained that all the fat people died first. (And I did get a good chuckle out of that.) But still it's just alot of things seem out of place to me. They wanted it to be a comedy .. then horror... on no wait its a comedy! No wait it's horror! Then Bill Murray appears. And if you want to see it, I was spoil his involvement, but suffice it to say it was mostly for comedic effect. There is no way you can take that part of the movie seriously.
After it was over, I wasn't like ... pissed off I wasted my time with it, but like, by this time... I'm expecting serious innovation in my zombie movies now. You can't just keep beating the same horse after it's dead. Well I guess you can, since they are, but you shouldn't.
So how about this ... the next zombie movie should have slow moving, thinking and talking zombies. A zombie race, with tactics. I know they did something like that with one or more of the of the dead films, by making it look as if they had reasoning ... But how about a movie about zombies who still remember who they are what they did for a living, and can talk ... but have to feed on humans to satiate their unnatural bloodthirst. You know like seeing some zombie mother devour her son or daughter, while she's crying because she can't help her self. That would grip you emotionally.
It's worth watching though.

I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
You know what I liked about Zombieland? It's the first ever zombiefilm I've ever seen where all the characters seem like they've actually seen a zombiefilm before!
Because otherwise it's all "What's dis? The dead be walkin' agin aww lawdy!!" as if zombies were never heard of before in modern popular culture.
And that's something that's kinda pissed me off these last few years. Glad to see that resolved. It saved the movie for me. That, the funny list of rules that imply he's seen a zombie flick before, and Woody Harrelson playing a banjo.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Saw 2012 and we really liked it; very tense and exciting. Yes, some of the events seemed quite unbelievable but that type of movie is designed to take us away from reality and into the impossible. Still, well worth the money.
Lestat - The original Time Machine is a great movie and I highly recommend it. Frequency was another out-of-time thriller that we enjoyed immensely. Both of these are worth watching if you have never seen them before.

Just saw Christmas with the Kranks
A lot of people don't like this movie. I didn't mind it.
It starts out really funny, but halfway loses steam in the comedy department.
It turns into a heartwarming Christmas film in the end.
I thought it was enjoyable.
The frozen cat and the botox part was hilarious.

Just saw Inglorious Basterds......
I was not a fan. It was no Pulp Fiction.
I thought the opening scene was good, and the last half hour, but the buildup felt painfully long.
It may have had something to do that half the film was in a foreign language and the subtitles were hard to read. Sometimes they were placed in a spot where the colour was too similar to the text and I couldn't read them and they moved too fast.
I also feel that Tarantino's magic with dialogue is lost when spoken in a language I don't understand. There is a way the actors pronounce everything in English that is missed.
Anyway... I didn't hate it... I just think maybe it could have been executed differently.

On some DVDs you can go into the Setup options and change the Speed, Size, and Color of the Subtitles... I haven't looked for it on too many DVDs, but I have noticed it on a few...
