The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it

The last film i´ve seen was an EXCELLENT film noir starring Mr. Kevin McCarthy himself: Nightmare from 1956. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049553/

Great plot, very atmospherical and... did i mention Kevin McCarthy already?

The movie starts with Kevin Mc Carthy (who plays a Jazz musician) laying in the bed of his apartment, having a pretty disturbing nightmare. He´s fighting with someone in a strange room full of mirrors, in the presence of a mysterious woman. McCarthy kills the man and hides his dead body. After he wakes up from his nightmare he realizes that there is blood on his arm, he´s got scratches on his throat and just a little later he discovers a key in his room that he has seen in his nightmare. Obviously he has not the slightest idea about what happened but he´s getting sure that he really killed someone and in a completely desolate and desperate condition he starts looking for answers.

Definitely a film that is HIGHLY recommendable! :D
I just looked up Mr. McCarthy on the IMDB, and my goodness not only is he up there in the age ranks but he's also still active and acting! What an inspiration.

Last film I saw was the animated post-apocalyptic story, 9. Being a huge fan of all things P.A. I came in with great hopes. While I can't say I wasn't disappointed at all, it was still a great film. The animation was spectacular and the cast of actors did a great job in their roles.

Post apocalyptic stories interest me I think because we can think of them as cautionary tales; examples of what the future could look like.

Anyways, I recommend 9 to anyone. But I would first recommend seeing the original short film. You can find it via a search on Youtube.
Going to see 9 this weekend.

Thanks for the heads up on the short film.

Last movie I saw was Outlander.

It was an okay movie. Cool mix between sci-fi and fantasy.
Matt
Shamefully enough, Outlander doesn't screen here. I wanna see it!

Saw District 9 though. Fun flick.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
It's in no way a New movie, but I saw Little Monsters earlier today... Still a fun movie after all these years... Howie shouldn't have given up acting...

I watched Wolverine again... Still a good movie... If you haven't seen it, you could probably consider the following to be a spoiler...

I didn't really notice last time, but I wish they would have explained what happen to his brother... I mean they both had that healing power and all he did was jump off the tower, they didn't show him being crushed beyond healing or anything, just jumped off and that was it... At least with Weapon-11 they showed him move and stuff, of course leaving it open for another if they choose... I guess that's what it does with his brother as well, leaves him open to return in a future film...

Saw 9.

I really liked this film. My only complaint was that it was little short.

I just really like post apocalyptic stuff.

The concept was cool, but maybe a little more back story could have been given to lengthen the film.

Yeah, I heard about the sixth one coming out. And I wouldn't be surprised if they made another three more. Which would be fitting since the Mayan calender would end the same year they release Saw 9.

I didn't realize the Mayan culture was involved in the Saw movies???

The kewl thing about Saw are the puzzles and decisions that the people need to make... Saw has a lot more doors open to it than movies like Friday The 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street... The repetitive factor is much broader than it is in those Hack and Slash movies... That's why I'm a fan of the Saw series...

My best friend and I saw The Informant this week. I personaly liked Matt Damon's performance. He is becoming one of the more reliable actors in Hollywood. The film itself is interesting .A lot of low key humor. The cast has a lot of stand up comideans and comic actors in it. The soundtrack can be distracting. Marvin Hamlish seems to want to use what sounded like kazoos to me. Over all I can recomend it.
This past week I saw:

Jennifer's Body,
Extract,
Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad...,
9,
Surrogates,

and Pandorum,

in that order.

Jennifer's Body was very much in the spirit of a Sam Raimi film, like his recent Drag Me to Heck.
Lots of fun. Didn't actually see much of Jennifer's body.

Extract , starring Jason Bateman very entertaining. The plot is a bit hard to describe, but its one of those light comedies where a few people make bad or stupid decisions which come back to haunt them and things get very complicated and out-of-hand.

I Can Do Bad All By Myself was ok, but a bit disappointing. Medea only had a minor role, and the film had much less comedy relief than we usually expect from Tyler Perry. A LOT of great gospel music though. The preacher was actually a local guy from here in Detroit.

9 was fabulous. As noted in an earlier post, you should also check out the short on YouTube. Use the YouTube search box and type "9 short" and you'll get it. The animation, sound, and expressiveness of the characters was fabulous. The story was both familiar and unique at the same time. Very, very nicely done.

Surrogates was the movie I've been most anxiously awaiting. Maybe because of that, my expectations were too high. However, it was still pretty great. Bruce Willis never disappoints. I have to go back and see it again because there are a couple of points that I'm not clear on. You have to watch very closely, because everyone is not who they seem, and sometimes the same 'body' is occupied by another person, so it's kind of hard to keep track of the good guys and the bad guys. If you're interested in seeing a lot of nice bodies and beautiful people, (on the surface) Surrogates overflows with them.

Pandorum was one that I was anticipating, but knew very little about. The plot sounds like it will be a slow, suspenseful, psycho-drama. The basic plot is that two Astronauts wake up on a huge ship in space. They can't remember anything. It's dark, they begin to explore the dark ship but with space sickness and paranoia as their companions. Sounds slow and boring, right? Anything but. Lots of action, suspense, thought-provoking, and fantastic to look at. This movie really grabbed me by the...ah,..you know. Anyway, very cool. Top movie of the list.
I want to see Pandorum.

Looks really cool.

I didn't realize when I wrote that I saw 9, it looked like I said i saw Saw 9. hehe.

Nothing beats the first Saw movie. It was the best... The ending was incredibly unpredictable. In fact... the ending is what made that movie. Without it, it would have only been so so.

The rest are interesting and have nice twists. That is why I like them, but the twists are not nearly as good as the first one.
Matt
I saw premonition

I liked the movie at first. About 3 quarters of the way through it felt like it was racing towards something only to fall flat on its ass.

I just don't understand the ending. It makes no sense.....

As far as we are concerned, she is supposed to be committed if you take the days in order, which all of a sudden at the end she isn't.

And then the scars issue... another inconsistency.

Could have been great like the butterfly effect, (which btw is an amazing movie, i might watch that again soon)... and then just wasn't.

If someone can please give me a reasonable explanation to the ending please do.
Or is there not one because the film maker couldn't think of anything better.
Matt
Yeah I agree, the guy had been laying there the whole time, I didn't see the end coming either... I didn't see the one cop being involved in the later sequel either, so that one was pretty good too...

I'm going to watch Nothing But The Truth tonight... It's from last year, but I haven't seen it yet and I'm a Beckinsale fan, so I got it through Netflix... I'll report back on it tonight or tomorrow...
