If memory serves the Pilot for the Series was a 2 part Episode, putting Captain Pike in 2 episodes, but there was an episode later on where Admiral Pike made an appearance... Spock broke protocol in order to return him to Talon V I believe was the name of the planet...

I saw the new Terminator movie tonight.

I think it is exactly what the next Terminator movie was supposed to be. It's not as much "fun" as the new Star Trek movie, but it's a very different kind of movie. Somewhat dark and and a lot more desperate.

Arnold is in it near the end, reprising his role as a T-800 series Terminator. Wow. Arnold still looks amazing. I wonder what his work-out schedule is like these days.

If you're a Terminator fan, I don't have to tell you to go see it. I know you will.

Saw Angels and Demons today, with the advantage that it's been ages since I read the book so I'd forgotten all the plot twists. I went in a bit worried that it might suffer from the sequel curse (even though the book was written before the Da Vinci Code) but happily it exceeded all my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and the non-stop plot meant there was never a dull moment.

Greatly recommended! (if only for the interesting "Italian" accents of some characters... )

Got Seven Pounds from Netflix the other day and we watched it. Actually, we experienced it. Very good movie but works the heart to the max. A few smiley moments but, for the most part it was a tear jerker. Typically I do not like these types of movies but it is good to see them once in a while; keeps us in touch with reality. If you decide to see it, have some kleenix handy.

I thought so too Jim, but there is one flaw with the movie that prevented my from getting too teary (in my opinion at least): if his goal was to pay his deeds forward, and help people, why did he not become a doctor and save MANY lives? Instead of the handful of lives he did by donating his organs? Then again, it made sense if his goal included sacrificing his own life becuase he felt he was not worthy of living after the tragedy. But then again, you would've thought he might've changed his mind after falling in love again. But I won't let that take away from the film... it was indeed a good watch.

Yeah I had similar thoughts of Seven Pounds... Definitely a Heart-Touchy movie... Not something I'll watch too often, but never the less it was a good movie...

Good points to ponder, Cub. I thought he may have been so depressed over the 7 lives he "took" that he had a goal to save and/or help 7 lives before he left earth. Jesus once said that 'no one has love greater than this than to sacrafice one's life for his/her friends.' That was his ultimate goal as life apparently was too much to bear - even after falling in love again.

BTW, we watched Firewall tonight (Harrison Ford, Virginia Madsen, Paul Bettany) and we highly recommend this movie as well. Tense thriller with enough twists and turns to keep the heart rate racing.

Let the Right One In, per Frank's suggestion. WOW! Loved it. There's such a difference between Amercian films and the rest of the world. Mostly quiet, but profoundly creepy in a few scenes that linger long after you finish it. Highly agree with Frank here, a little gem.

Hard Candy, Lakeview Terrace, Little Children, and Passengers. On a Patrick Wilson backlist search. If there's yet a movie he's in that he's at not at least 80% naked, I haven't come across it. I thought he did a fantastic job in Watchmen, so I gladly took in his other flicks. Little Children and Hard Candy were the best. I thought I remembered Cub suggesting Hard Candy, and it did not dissapoint. Passengers and Lakeview terrace were the weakest. Lakeview was too formulatic, and Passengers was so emotionally distancing, that once I discovered the twist, I didn't care.

Star Trek and Terminator Salvation.
I've got to be the only one here that thought Star Trek blew chunks.
I found everything but the CGI to be lacking. Story blah, acting.....mid blah, screwing with the 'canon', unforgivable. HELLO, what's up with Chekolv? Not even a trace resemblance.
Terminator Salvation, pretty good, the story was decent, and I'm a longtime Christian Bale fan, so I got going for me, which is nice.

I wouldn't go as far to say blew chunks... lol But I agree to a degree with you Jen on Star Trek... While I thought it lived up to the Star Trek name, I was taken back by the story and lack of character resemblance as well... Especially with Uhura, Scotty, and Chekov...

My hats off to Spock though, he pulled that part off, but I also think it had something to do with having Nimoy on set to council him through the movie... Kirk wasn't too bad as was Bones, but they did indeed lack something...

Granted the Special Effects with today's technology was expected to be awesome, which it was... But I stand by my original suspicion that they shouldn't have used the original crew...

On the other hand, Star Trek needed to go where it had NOT been in a long time. The last 2 or 3 movies were good, but they were becoming rather Bond-ish, if you catch my drift. Ergo, the new movie is nothing short of fabulous, in my humble opinion.

I personally have no problem with variances, especially if they are required to resurrect a series as powerful as Star Trek. Spock's appearance seems to confirm its blessing and the response by movie goers is overwhelming, to say the least.

What does this say for Jen's comments? To each his/her own. An old friend once taught me an important saw to live by: different strokes for different folks. Bless you Jen!

Yeah I see what you're saying Jim... Which is why I wish they would have Left Voyager in the Delta Quadrant and made a movie about them getting home, instead of having it be a Series Finale... At least then it would have been a New Star Trek Movie and it wouldn't have had to mess with the original crew...

Like I've said before, I liked the movie, don't get me wrong, it was a great movie, lots of action, very good special effects... But I just couldn't shake who they were "Suppose" to be...

I thought Bones was the best character as far as resemblance goes. Spock was good too.
I loved Star Trek, but I do have to admit that it did not feel like your traditional Star Trek film.
I personally didn't think this was a bad thing, but I know some people hated that. As far as the older movies.. I really liked Khan and First Contact.

Anyway, new movies.
Saw Terminator Salvation. WOW!!!! That guy's attention to detail was incredible. I just finished watching the previous trilogy and he touched on everything mentioned about the future in the previous films. It is a great setup movie too for the next two sequels they are making. Heard rumours that the next one may have Robert Patrick in it as a scientist working on cell replication until Skynet gets a hold of him. Also will reveal how they found the time displacement device. Really excited to see the next ones. This was also another movie that did not feel like its predecessors, but the previous formula was getting old and I think the direction they took with this was perfect.

DrPaul, Arny wasn't in the movie. Someone else played the T-800 and they took archived footage of Arnold and CGId it to the new guys head. Yep... Arnold is still flabby. They did a good job, though. You couldn't tell. =)

Next Movie, Drag Me To Hell.!!
What a fun movie. Sam Raimi at his greatest. This really pays homage to the style of the evil dead movies. It was Gross, Funny as hell, Scary, Cheesy and just all around fun. I highly recommend this to any horror buff. Not your typical scary movie. PC, aka Justin Long, is in it too hehehe.

Next on the schedule. UP!!

Terminator was a bunch of fun. Outstandingly better than T3, and at least "cinematically" better than T1.

It amplified the problem regarding Reese, though. I still don't understand how a guy can send a man into the past, and said man sleeps with a woman who ends up giving birth to the guy who sent the man into the past. Having the two of them in this timeline in T4 makes it all the more problematic.

But that's just my personal "does not compute" moment from the Terminator series.

Back to T4, there are at least two jackets I want from that damn movie!

And speaking of two, it's the first film I've seen in years that featured two strong and interesting leads. It's an old formula which is too often underused. I thought it made an otherwise standard action film that much more developed. The Departed did the same, but despite being a very good movie, I felt DiCaprio and Damon didn't make full use of that duality.

Yes! My first reaction after seeing Drag Me to Heck was that it was a perfect movie (for the type of genre that it was.) They just don't get any better than that.

I saw up (in 3D) a few days ago. One thing you gotta say about Pixar is that they never miss. Up was a totally delightful movie. I think it was the first Pixar movie which featured humans as the main characters throughout. The 3D was great for some of those spectacular scenes over the cliffs and stuff, but I think Up will be just as satisfying in 2D (if you don't have a 3D theater handy.)

Another really wonderful movie that was out recently was The Brothers Bloom. I absolutely loved it. Saw it twice already. As you probably know, it's a con-man movie but like none I've ever seen before. Rachel Weisz, Adrian Brody and Mark Ruffalo were the main characters and they were each very delightful and memorable. But some of the supporting cast, in particular Robbie Coltrane and Maximilian Schell were fantastic. Almost stole the show. I highly recommend The Brothers Bloom - although I must say, my movie buddy wasn't as crazy about it as I was.

And how about The Hangover? I saw it a couple of days ago. Man, I was laughing so hard I could hardly breath. However, be warned that it is mostly guy-humor. I don't know if women will find it as funny. I hope they do.
