Pandora with Dosbox
If I'm understanding what you're saying, you had the Original File and then were instructed to download another file, the new file that you downloaded should have replaced your original file, so I don't think you should have 2 files... But wait for SansGUI to take a look, Sans and Nilo understand the Config files and inner workings of DosBox and such WAY Better than I do...
Congrats on getting it to run, if it loads and runs at all, I'm sure someone will be able to help you to get it to run smoothly...

Yeah I feel really good about getting the game to run at all. Why the strangeness about it have yet to figure out. Very weird is the asking for disc 2 to begin the game thus missing all of the begining of it entirely. Will hold out for more info from here.
I can't believe I have 4 games all stuck in various ways so that I can't proceed. So far no one has been able to help me. This is the best site for hanging in re problematic issues and giving good help.
The Awakened - am stuck at a glitch and can't believe no one has a saved game here; others
have reported similar glitch but no answer to call for saved game
Winterset - stuck at a spot am sure is a glitch as the game has been so throughout; again
no one has either played the game or stuck with it because of glitches
Uru - but am stuck here because of me; just not good at keyboard AND cursor movements
that must be done under timed conditions
Pandora - but hope to get this rectified and up and going.
Just not my time for gaming it seems.

Well, there's always a chance for error when trying to run older games in these faster modern machines...
Sometimes if you have the money, it's just better to buy an older configured machine for playing old games like that... I've thought about it a few times, just haven't done it yet... You can find the older configured computers on eBay for under 200 bucks usually... Not everyone can afford that or has the room to house another computer like that... So you need to weigh your options and do the Pros and Cons thing...
But you've passed the point of my safely giving you answers, anything I try to do at this point could possibly do more harm than good, can't have that... lol Just have to wait for the Brains to answer and help you now...

Yes, like you have considered buying such a older computer from EBay but considerations of cost and room on my desk etc. has me holding off. Seems if I can get dosbox to work, why buy a PC just for playing a game - though I could play ALL the older games not just Tex. So I procrastinate waiting for THE BRAINS to see if they can get me up and going.
Do appreciate all your efforts however. Nice just to have someone commiserate with one's gaming issue:)

Oh I wouldn't buy it just to play one or two games... I have dozens of older PC Games... If I were to buy it, it would be for Dozens of games, not just a couple...
But I understand the space and money issues... It's just a suggestion, if it were a possibility...

It sounds like you downloaded both the "Pandora for XP" file and the "Pandora for DOSBox0.72" file. You only need one of those. I recommend using the "Pandora for DOSBox0.72" file.
The file that should be edited is the dosbox.conf. That is where you will change the drive letters to match your system. The file that keeps changing because dosbox is telling the game that your cdrom is D.
Now you should be able to start the game.
Go to Start -> All Programs -> DOSBox-0.72 -> DOSBox
You should now have a DOSBox Window open and at the "C:\>" prompt
Type "cd pandora" and press <Enter>
You should now be at "C:\PANDORA>" prompt
Type "tex4" and press <Enter>

Code: Select all
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount E E:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl

A sansGUI interface is one that does not have the small features called "Windows". The term comes from the French word sans, meaning "without".
SansGUI's are more typically used in Unix-like Operating Systems. The conventional wisdom is that a GUI (Grapical User Interface) help guide the casual computer user to perform routine tasks with Point and Click simplicity. SansGUI's have acquired considerable acceptance for users accustomed to the CLI (Command Line Interface).

Still in trouble. You show Code:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
etc. etc.
my config.ini files does not have this at all. Should I type all this info into config. ini?
Also when I do try to start Pandora I do get the C:\ prompt but the message says
cannot open Pandora.
This screen does say that C drive has been mounted so not clear as to why game does not load therefore. Have deleted the other Pandora file so am working just with Pandora for DosBox 9.72

Been working away and thought I had it made BUT:
I uninstalled the PandoraforDosBox0.70 and reinstalled it. That seemed to do it. Then I changed the D drive to E where my pandora disc no. 1 will be. Tried the game and all was well until I got to the disc swap screen. It just keeps saying over and over again to insert disc into drive E. So for some reason game is not recognizing my drive E. I rebooted but did not help.
Any more suggestions? At least I am almost into the game. Oh also my disc is not a DVD so am in the right drive. Meanwhile will keep working at it on this end!

The file you edit is named "dosbox.conf" it should be located in "C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72".my config.ini files does not have this at all. Should I type all this info into config. ini?
When you start Dosbox it tells the config.ini what your drive letters are. Since the dosbox.conf file hasn't been edited it changes the config.ini back to D: everytime you restart the game. That is why it keeps asking for you to put the cd in Drive D:.

Download the dosbox.conf file from Nilo's site.
Extract the dosbox.zip to your desktop.
Open the dosbox.conf file you extracted with Notepad.
Edit the section of the dosbox.conf file labeled [autoexec]
Now copy the file to C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72 overwriting the existing file.
Try to play the game.

I did your instructions three times to make sure I did them right but each time paste line is whited out. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Open the dosbox.conf file with notepad.
Make the changes I indicated previously.
Save the changes.
Close Notepad.
Now copy the "dosbox.conf" to C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.72.
I should've been more clear, sorry.

No you were quite clear and I did as instructed. However, just noticed there is NO config file in DosBox0.72 in the program files to overwrite! So I tried to use the Move feature to move notepad config file that I changed as directed and got the message cannot move this file because the source is the same as the destination. So I must be doing something wrong here but for the life of me so far cannot figure out what.
If it turns out to be some little diddley squat error I will be so embarrassed!
