The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it
Hahaha I only literally threw one book across the room, A Storm of Swords, third book of the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R R Martin. I'm sure anyone who's read it knows where and what made me throw it away
Of course I picked it right back up and continued on reading, but with an entire different outlook on the rest of the series. Still anxiously waiting for Dance With Dragons, the fifth entry.
While I'm at it, I can't possibly recommend this series enough. I had picked up the first book on a limb and started reading it at O'Hare waiting for a plane back home that lost all notion of time. A guy sits in front of me and frantically asks if it's the latest book in the series. I said I had no clue there were more than one and had just started. Airport stranger promised me that I would be ridiculously hooked, and would never, ever be able to predict the outcomes. Bastard was right on both accounts.
It doesn't get any more gritty and emotional than this series, and the fantasy is kept to a minimum, where magic and dragons are a thing of the past, or legends from the Free Cities beyond the Narrow Sea.

Oh my God frank, you just might be my soulmate.
Was it the hound and Arya's scene?
I threw that book so hard, it smacked the wall.
After spouting some choice words... long loud and profane, I picked it back up again and read on.
A funny aside on this. A few years back, I went to Bubioncon in New Mexico to meet George. First of all, he has got the most infectious laugh. Second, I told him about my reaction to the hound/arya scene. He laughed and said when Parris read it, he said that if this played out (don't want to spoil it) he could just pack and get himself out of the house.
YES ! I check his site all the time for news and maybe an updated sample.
This is a little spooky Frank!!! I read GOT as a new release, and was lucky enough to find some hardback remainders of book one and passed them out to friends. DOH!! They're worth $$$$ now.
My grand aspiration is to write as grittily, coarse and emotionally as him, althought I am sick to death of Brienne. More Starks, more Dany, and Tyrion, BAH on the Tyrell's and Frey's and crap.
And of course.... more beyond the wall.

Fred Buer wrote:I disagree with your phrasing. Batman was very much so a dark character, and especially when Frank Miller took the reins.
And Heath Ledger did the Joker character perfectly. I'm a comic geek. Compared to what I've read (and I've read *a lot*) it was spot on.
Also, Batman in the 60's? That wasn't so much Batman from the comics as it was a very bizzare, surreal show with the dynamic duo as the main characters. Sure, it had the characters, but if you want to compare Romero's Joker to Ledger's, that's like comparing Weird Al Yankovic to whatever he's parodized.
Feel free to get defensive however you like in this discussion, but you didn't claim to show your opinion, you claimed to compare facts. Very different issues.

I don't need to get Defensive...
I'll admit I'm not a Comic Book Reader, I have many other things to read... As far as On Screen, from the 60s onward as far as TV and Movies go, {not speaking or animation}, Batman nor any of the villains were of a Dark Nature... There were always jokes and pot-shots and whatnot between all the characters...
Not everyone that watches Batman, Spiderman, Superman, etc, are Comic Book Readers, so therefore are unfamiliar with how things may have originally started from the actual creators... But as far as Movies go, the new 2 Batman movies don't match up with any thing previously made under the name Batman...
If West, Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney Batman characters didn't coincide with the Comics, why were they allowed to use the name Batman??? Would seem like a conflict of interest from the creators and the movie makers...
So there is no need for debate or arguments on the matter, seeing how both of us are coming from different points of origin for our points of view...
If you say from the original Comics and the Animations that, that is the way the Joker and Batman and other characters are suppose to be, that's fine, I can't argue it because I didn't/don't read comics...
But from the Silver Screen point of view, everything that has had to do with Batman on Film has been colorful and upbeat, not dark and sinister...
It was an extremely well made and well acted movie, I won't argue that in the least... But with what I'm familiar with when it comes to Batman, it wasn't Batman...
If that is the way the Comics originally intended for it to be, then so be it to those of us who don't have the time to read comics...
Something else... I watched 1408 the other night... If you are in a Paranormal mood, I suggest watching this movie... It was certainly a "Keep You Guessing" type... Unfortunately with those types of movies, you can't watch it too often... But it was a good movie for the Paranormal...

Oh wow Jen, I've met quite a few people that were angered by that scene (and the entire book for that matter) but someone else throwing it away is a first encounter! Personally, it was at the glass table right in front of my sofa. I'm still not sure how it remained intact.
A little spooky indeed, considering the small size of our community and the odds of this coincidence. I'd try to explain it but chances are I'd get lost and frightened along the way
Judging from the picture on his site, I'm not at all surprised by the infectious laugh! I'm not surprised either about Parris' anecdote!
I haven't even seen a hardback edition, but it probably never made its way to this little part of The North.
Can't agree more on bringing on some Starks, Tyrion, Danny and the Wall. I saw Brienne as a necessary evil but with Jaime having his own narration her tangent became a bit obsolete. For a man who writes such wonderful female characters, Brienne quickly got annoying. Although arguably, it's hard to tell just how womanly she is! The Tyrell's were fun for a while but I didn't expect them to have as much of a story, and the Frey's can burn in all seven layers of hell for what I care!
It's such a bittersweet writing, but I just can't get enough of it. I don't know if it's a first in fiction to treat characters the way Martin does, but it's insanely involving. I get sucked in and fall in his traps repeatedly. While I know I shouldn't get attached to this or that character, I just can't help it, and then suffer the consequences! I also found out first hand that revenge truly isn't satisfying. When a certain House started to receive what was long overdue, I felt no joy or satisfaction, only emptiness. Powerful writing it is, and a first to get me so involved. I'd be happy to write half as well as this
Don't know if we got sidetracked, but I don't see any "Last book you read and threw at a wall" thread so this might do for now!

I went to see The Mummy today.
I really enjoyed it. It had everything you would want or expect from a Mummy movie. Fast paced, lots of action, cool effects, and some truly spectacular scenery.
I was a bit disappointed that Rachel Weisz didn't appear as Evelyn. But Maria Bello, who played her in this sequel, was fine. It's just that I was expecting Ms Weisz.

I saw Pineapple Express last night.
If you don't mind a movie in which the central characters are high on pot throughout the whole thing, this was a very clever, funny, fresh and well-acted movie.
The central characters are very lovable but even though these lovable central characters are always high on drugs, the movie does not glorify drugs or drug use. It actually paints it as a pretty sorry and dead-end life-style but reminds you that the people in it are still people and not necessarily evil. (There are, of course, some bad guys in it also.)
Anyway, this was a very entertaining movie with a fresh and original plot, endearing characters, and very funny. Go see it, but don't take the kids.

I just got back from [quote]Mama Mia![\quote]
It's a musical! I didn't even know it was a musical until after all the singing and dancing started. Nice music. The cast did a pretty good job - they sang their own parts instead of being dubbed.
You probably already know the story. A girl is getting married, but never knew who her father was. She finds her mother's diary and invites the three likely candidates to the wedding, thinking she would know which is her Dad as soon as she sees him.
It is sort of a girl-movie, but even a big strong he-man like me still enjoyed it. Very up-beat, lively and entertaining.
The whole thing takes place on one of the Greek islands. Great scenery and a beautiful sail boat. Looks like about a 45 foot, John Alden-style wooden ketch.
Not an action movie, not a comedy, not a drama, not too much of a plot. But all the same, very entertaining.

This is an older movie, I hadn't seen it in years, but I caught it on TV a couple of hours ago...
Stand By Me... The Movie made from Stephen King's book The Body... If you haven't seen it, I recommend...
It's about 4 kids about 13 years old or so... They go on a camping trip in search of a dead body whose location has eluded police for weeks... Meanwhile the older gang consisting of 18 year olds or so decide they are going to do the same thing... The leader of each gang don't get along and it's never a pretty meeting between...
If you haven't seen it, I'm not going to say anymore, I don't want to ruin it for you...
I'm also currently watching Mission To Mars... Good Sci-Fi movie about what Man's first missions to Mars might end up being like, with the Sci-Fi Plot Twist of course...
