I think since symphony orchestras have a wide range of instruments they would have most of the ones which would be required to play jazz tracks.
But of course they could get a band on the side. I think it would cost less to hire a small jazz band than to get a whole orchestra. Was the song at the end of the pitch video synthesized or a proper instrumented rock song as they said that guy is going to be doing music for them, maybe he is able to do jazz band stuff?
But I agree they could also just mix and blend the jazz in with the orchestra, rather than making it something completely separate. I'm a big fan of Classical Crossover music (which blends modern instruments with orchestra style music).
A band to the side of an orchestra worked well when I went to see War of the Worlds Live. They had the symphony orchestra and also the "Black Smoke Band". It was really cool
The band starts up to the left of the orchestra a bit into this video:

I have also been to see Video Games Live in the past, which had someone on guitar and keyboard etc.

Anyway I've also been to see a symphony orchestra play "big movie theme music" live, such as John Williams theme music for films. It was awesome and so I am definitely up for the "movie themes" of Tex Murphy with an orchestra
Hey maybe someday Video Games Live concert will play a Tex Murphy theme heh (though to be honest I've only been once to their concerts due to the costs for me).

Could ask them though about a jazz ensemble (they are trying to work out doing a Google+ chat thing, I know even less about it than Reddit though and thats saying something!).Who plays/sings the rock song at the end of the Kickstarter video?
Chris & Aaron: Bobby James wrote that song. He'll be doing much of the soundtrack for the new game.
Cubase: What of Matt Heider?
Chris & Aaron: Matt will be consulting, hopefully.
