NEXT GOAL $585,000
I think since symphony orchestras have a wide range of instruments they would have most of the ones which would be required to play jazz tracks.
But of course they could get a band on the side. I think it would cost less to hire a small jazz band than to get a whole orchestra. Was the song at the end of the pitch video synthesized or a proper instrumented rock song as they said that guy is going to be doing music for them, maybe he is able to do jazz band stuff?
But I agree they could also just mix and blend the jazz in with the orchestra, rather than making it something completely separate. I'm a big fan of Classical Crossover music (which blends modern instruments with orchestra style music).
A band to the side of an orchestra worked well when I went to see War of the Worlds Live. They had the symphony orchestra and also the "Black Smoke Band". It was really cool
The band starts up to the left of the orchestra a bit into this video:

I have also been to see Video Games Live in the past, which had someone on guitar and keyboard etc.

Anyway I've also been to see a symphony orchestra play "big movie theme music" live, such as John Williams theme music for films. It was awesome and so I am definitely up for the "movie themes" of Tex Murphy with an orchestra
Hey maybe someday Video Games Live concert will play a Tex Murphy theme heh (though to be honest I've only been once to their concerts due to the costs for me).

Could ask them though about a jazz ensemble (they are trying to work out doing a Google+ chat thing, I know even less about it than Reddit though and thats saying something!).Who plays/sings the rock song at the end of the Kickstarter video?
Chris & Aaron: Bobby James wrote that song. He'll be doing much of the soundtrack for the new game.
Cubase: What of Matt Heider?
Chris & Aaron: Matt will be consulting, hopefully.

Watch out: you'll give people the impression that you have no taste or class.my voice just wrote:never understood the hypeness of live orchestra - first jane, then tex
think it`s kinda outdated desire of something you couldn`t afford before
but i`m still a fan of trent reznor... and he`s doing just fine - without any orchestra
Wait...

Orchestra music can be timeless I think
For a game with "big movie themes" and a cinematic slant a live orchestra would be nice when you think about some of those other epic "movie themes". Here's composer Alan Silvestri conducting an orchestra for Back to the Future

But I am fan of Classical Crossover too which is a mix of digital or modern electric instruments with classical ones. Sometimes this is actually seen as a bit controversial to traditionalists.

Of course I like all digital music too

I like some Nightwish and Apocalyptica tracksThere's also symphonic black metal, but that's kind of off most people's taste radars.

Well in the same +30% stretch tier as the orchestra there is also going to be added even more story, gameplay, locations , puzzles, characters etc. In the reddit AMA Chris & Aaron said to me "additional story" can even mean a location like David Wright's cabin from Pandora Directive which they said was added later in development and was one of the most memorable parts of the game for me. So the fact the orchestra is in that tier certainly wold hold back more game content I thinksam10100 wrote:An orchestra would be a nice frill but I wouldn't want to hold up the game for it.
Chris & Aaron: It would be more backstory stuff. As an example, David Wright's cabin in Pandora (where you see the alien autopsy film) was added on toward the end of development. That's the kind of thing we would add with the stretch goal story stuff.

I've always liked David Wright's cabin too, even more so because it's completely optional and adds to the backstory. I'd like to have more optional stuff like this in the new game.Well in the same +30% stretch tier as the orchestra there is also going to be added even more story, gameplay, locations , puzzles, characters etc. In the reddit AMA Chris & Aaron said to me "additional story" can even mean a location like David Wright's cabin from Pandora Directive which they said was added later in development and was one of the most memorable parts of the game for me. We have a week to go, and only $94,000 to raise to get to 130%. Considering we'll probably have a spike in the last few days, I have a very good feeling about reaching that target. The orchestral score would be nice too.
