Yeesh. That Tex Murphy. He's some ladies man.
The site holder has not yet contacted me regarding my current offer/bid, which matches the counter offer he gave me in the 1st round of negoatations. So we'll see.
I have no idea if the seller is playing games with me, as in the 1st round he/she responded right away. Now it has been almost 24 hours without any communication.
I'll keep you posted.

There's always the method of a PayPal donation fund/button too.
I do web design but I don't think I'd have time to maintain it so it would be best that it just redirects to the unofficialtexmurphy website. Perhaps just a page on texmurphy.com with a dislcaimer saying its being withheld for whatever reason. And a link to here.

It's pretty sad they're using the domain name the way they are right now. But I'll second the notion that I do believe this community should take the reigns of the site if we could. I've got 10 on it this week, (I'll have to do the money order thing too, but I trust y'all.) if I have somebody who could collect.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Hi all,
Just got caught up on this thread, and I think if we can gain control of texmurphy.com, we definitely should. What it ultimately points to (if anything) should also be a group decision, I think. If we need a collection pot to throw donations in, I am certainly willing to offer up my PayPal account ([email protected]). Make sure to add a note saying that it is for the domain name purchase, so I can set it aside.
Honestly, I'm kicking myself a little for letting the domain registration slip by in the first place. I had been watching to try and catch when it expired, but got distracted and forgot all about it...

Don't want to stir the pot here, but am I the only one who thinks that Chris and Aaron should be the ones to have the lion's share of the decision making in the fate of Texmurphy.com? Yeah, I know one's not around often and the other maybe not at all (to the best of my knowledge), but Still.......I feel as a show of respect....

Couple of thoughts, Jen: First, it'll be a lot easier to let them have a say if the name is owned by this community. This group is a lot more likely to listen to Chris and Aaron's suggestions that the current owner.
Second, if the current owner is contacted by either Chris or Aaron, he/she may decide to up the price because he/she would expect that particular domain name to be very dear to the creators of Tex.
Third, if there is a pool, put me down for twenty bucks. I'll send a check or money order to whoever's in charge.
And last: I'd keep it sort of mum by not telling too many people about it. No casual checking out the site because of the hit counter driving up the price. Hopefully the squatter won't catch on to our real level of interest too soon.
Ahhh, capitalism...I hate it when I'm on the short end of it.

You want me to do this project? Well, here's the way it works:

Hey James,
Since you offered, I just sent $50.00 to [email protected] via PayPal to put towards the texmurphy.com domain.

I can definitely appreciate that sentiment, Jen, and I actually agree with you. But, as you said, Chris and Aaron tend to get sidelined by the real world, and may not be able to devote much time to securing the texmurphy.com domain. If we, the Faithful, can act in their stead, I'm sure none of us will have any objections to letting CJ and AC determine what is ultimately done with the name.Jen wrote:Don't want to stir the pot here, but am I the only one who thinks that Chris and Aaron should be the ones to have the lion's share of the decision making in the fate of Texmurphy.com? Since this thread has moved way down the list, I wanted to bump it back to the top for a little bit with this summary, as I see it, of the situation so far.
1. Please do not visit the texmurphy.com website. That will artificially raise the statistics on the site and increase the cost to all of us.
2. I'm not sure if I correctly understand UnderAKillingMoonPoster's posts, but he said that the 'asking' price for the domain is $300. Apparently, he made a counter offer that was smaller than that and it was rejected.
3. Why don't we just bit the bullet and pay them the 300 bucks?
4. I have already sent $50 to James, via PayPal, to go towards the purchase. That leaves $250 to be raised.
5. I have counted 11 different posters on this thread, all indicating interest in securing texmurphy.com for the good of Tex Murphy.
6. If the remaining ten of you could each put in $25, we'd have it. Or, if we can get additional commitments from other board members, maybe we can get it down to ten or fifteen dollars each.
7. I'm afraid that if we don't act, we will lose it. Let's talk turkey. Who's in, and for how much? If we come up short, at least we know how much more we need to raise.
8. Since UnderAKillingMoonPoster has already started negotiations with the current holder of the domain, I suggest that no body else get involved else we get into a bidding war with ourselves.
9. UAKMPoster: In your opinion, can we get it for $300?
