I have access to BOTH the GOG and Steam versions of the game
It's slowed somewhat at the moment since my last post. 5.6gb down so far out of the 13.6gb, 3 hour 10 minutes according to Steam. I was hoping to finish Day 1 today but i might just get a quick sneak peak before bed tonight instead. If anything is going to ruin this game's reputation, it's the download size. Tesla is begging for a physical release.
I was right!Sai on Page 1 of this thread wrote:staff did say they sent out GOG codes to BFG/ATLUS so that may all be sorted out later. GOG haven't heard back yet since sending the codes and BFG don't seem to be aware of any GOG codes so maybe ATLUS need to wake up?
But ATLUS (and BFG) I guess is asleep now. Also it's unlikely ATLUS ever had any involvement with the BFG forum to see the confusion after it was said "We're not aware of any plans to send GOG codes". So when everyone wakes up hopefully BFG and ATLUS can communicate with each other and make an official statement.#: I would like some clarification from GOG team whether a publisher/developer can get free keys of their game like they can on Steam.
GOG Staff: Here's how it works: "Please give us X amount of keys." We reply: "OK, here you go." That's about it, really. It would be silly to charge developers for keys to their own game
In this case, the keys were delivered to ATLUS, the publisher. After that, we have no idea what happens then, sorry.
#: It all makes perfect sense now! Those greedy ATLUS employees blatantly stole our GOG keys!![]()
GOG Staff: It's likely there are just some delays in distribution, if they received the keys then they have enough to give to everyone who is supposed to get them, but maybe they are just having some issues. Like, they mislabeled some that have been already sent to someone and don't want to risk sending out a dead key, etc. It happens! I'm sure they are on their way
#: It's always a publisher isn't it.
GOG Staff: Or it could be just time zones playing hell with communicationATLUS is in California, we're in Poland, so imagine the huge time difference

I think all up it took me between 3 and 4 hours. Download finished at 8:00PM.
I haven't actually played it properly but i've skimmed over the game just to get a feel for it. It's splendid. I agree with the team as to what they pulled off with the budget and timeframe they had to work with - it's incredible. Unfortunately I have exams in June so i'm thinking on shelving this for now (VERY begrudgingly and in great agony) just so I can return to it and focus on it full time once holidays are here.
As already pointed out, it's so good walking around Chandler Avenue and speaking with Louie. I might even connect this to my HDTV. I got Dad to sit next to me for his opinion. He's so blown away he wants me to copy the game files over to his PC! He actually wants to play it as he couldn't stop remarking how "human" the game felt with real actors.
There will be no GOG.com codes. That's the official statement.Sai wrote: But ATLUS (and BFG) I guess is asleep now. Ok folks, here is an UPDATE! Steam keys are on their way to the thousands of backers who were eligible for a download of the game. WE are working VERY hard to deliver all of these, so please be patient. We only very recently received the list of keys and our own email servers are distributing the emails to all the users. Thousands have already made it through, and thousands more are coming VERY so...on! IMPORTANT: THIS GAME IS DRM FREE! When you upload a product to Steam, there is an option to select whether or not you want that game to use DRM, which we have NOT selected, which means you ONLY use Steam to Download the game. After which point THE GAME IS YOURS. If you don't like Steam you can close Steam, delete Steam, do whatever you want with Steam after you have downloaded Tesla Effect. I reiterate: THIS GAME IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE DRM FREE!
To me that answers the whole question of whether GOG codes will be issued. Clearly, they're going for Steam codes. End of story.
So are ATLUS just not gonna bother acknowledging that GOG gave codes to them? It's a bit confusing since during the Kickstarter when ATLUS was brought on board an alternative to using Steam was still being offered:Joel wrote:To me that answers the whole question of whether GOG codes will be issued. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/te ... sts/645901Our publishing partner ATLUS has helped us officially get onto STEAM. So, when the game debuts in the first quarter of 2014 – you have the option of getting your copy through STEAM. If you don’t want to go through STEAM, we’ll have more information on how to obtain a copy closer to the release of the game.
I think this was to allay concerns that a publisher would change the Kickstarter and the direct consumer to developer relationship. However, it looks like ATLUS has neglected to take care of customer relations on launch leaving BFG to get the brunt of the blame. I like ATLUS games but in this case wish GOG had just sent the codes to BFG instead!
Like I say, for me, it doesn't affect that much, but I did hope ATLUS would be in closer contact with BFG. I hope ATLUS will take a more direct approach in future, BFG need to take advantage of ATLUS bigger clout in the industry!
(( I also think its weird GOG has already done all the stuff thats in their power, like sending out codes to the publisher ATLUS and converting beta accounts to retail accounts, but for the part thats not in their power - ATLUS handing out said codes, everythings gone dead. I hope ATLUS get their ass in gear

Update: A few backers got an email responce from ATLUS (quotes from BFG forum):
Everyone in Utah are likely asleep at this time so it'll probably be sorted later.
BFG were seemingly in the dark about things as they said "I do not have any GOG codes to distribute, and I’m not aware of any plans to distribute GOG codes in the future." Now ATLUS has got in direct contact with BFG everyone will be on the same pageCaliburn: I e-mailed Atlus customer support about the GOG codes earlier today and I have just received this reply from the QA Lead at Atlus U.S.A., Inc.
"We sent the GOG codes to Big Finish for distribution just recently. You should check with them about this matter."
aesgard: That's great news, Caliburn, thanks for sharing!
So now is probably just a matter of time, I'm confident BFG won't disappoint his loyal soldiers and will send us the codes ASAP
Edit: I just got the same email from Atlus (also wrote them)! I bet we'll see the codes soon![]()

well I didn't think all this drama would be dragged over here as well but,,,,,,
big finish were told at first from GOG they could not supply the codes in time to big finish so They were received from steam which wasn't til late the late afternoon before launch. all backers codes were coming for the one place . Gog did send them to atlus after the Big finish had processed the sending them out to backers. Why GOG sent them to atlus is a mystery as atlus didn't get the backers Big finish did. Big finish wasn't holding off for the gog codes as they had been told by GOG they didn't have the time.
they are a lot people like myself that had no problem with steam codes. In actually fact when I read a post from GOG that beta backers would get their codes changed to a full game I assumed that I would not get a steam code so I went ahead & purchased a pre-order steam key so I could download from decent server. Now I have 3 bloody copies plus another that will be on disk later on.

No drama here. Drama implies arguments. I have no arguments.plumgas wrote:well I didn't think all this drama would be dragged over here as well but,,,,,,
Many on the GOG forums were supportive when the release date was delayed to May 7th so it doesn't seem like they would of minded an extra delay to receive codes so long as they were aware they were coming eventually. Soon after the Steam codes were given out it was stated by GOG on Wednesday that they were coming via ATLUS. I just think it would be great if BFG and ATLUS are able to be in direct contact for the future of the game since ATLUS are the ones who are the publisher for GOG, Steam, Humble Store and Mac Store etc. It's important they work closely with BFG.big finish were told at first from GOG they could not supply the codes in time to big finish. Big finish wasn't holding off for the gog codes as they had been told by GOG they didn't have the time.
Again if it was an either/or, Steam or GOG, a Kickstarter rewards survey could of been sent out before the release date like with the Jane Jensen Kickstarter. Those who picked Steam would of got their codes and not be confused as to whether on launch day they were to expect only a GOG version. Also those who preferred GOG would not of received Steam codes and be wondering if they were to only expect a Steam version.
However like I say hindsight is 20/20 so it doesn't really matter now. I was always of the stance there was some miscommunication somewhere and that ATLUS, BFG and GOG would resolve it. I'm neutral on the whole thing as I don't mind either Steam or GOG and am also getting a physical copy.
