After downloading the game twice, installing DirectX version 9.0c, and restarting my Windows 8 Lenovo laptop, the game will not launch. Just a blank, black screen. AAAAARRRRRRGH!!!!

maybe its because you installed direct x on your windows 8 laptop which should have a newer version.

I'm stuck. Here's hoping the email address provided gets back to me soon.

I did a manual uninstall to start over completely fresh and now I can't get the game to run in any capacity.

did you uninstall the whole game. doesn't changing the profile player give you a fresh game

What I did was the uninstall option while keeping the saved games. But then after seeing stuff still there I decided that was the wrong option and deleted what was left. Now I can't run the application at all after every reinstall. I used to be able to get further.

I wonder if the antivirus is the problem as someone has stated that their anitvirus blocked the file & they had to download again

That's how it started for me, but I went to my video card maker's web site and downloaded the latest drivers. Ping! That worked.
