Thanks to plumgas cause I thought I was the only one having a problem. Now that I see ALL the pics my response is the same - WOW! Really great pics, Jen.

I don't really have a 3D display which are apparently all the rage these days, so it's not as poppy-outy as it should be, but damn those are great shots! I feel like I can reach right up and grab them, it's so clear!

I don't mean to come across as a grumpy old man, but I just can't get on board this whole 3D thing. I mean this as both in cinema and home entertainment. To me having to put on these 3D glasses to follow an image is just tedious. Personally, all I want to do is sat back and watch a 2D screen with a cup of tea after a long day of work and absorb the dialogue the way I always have. I'm certainly not disputing the technological advancement and brilliance of it all, but I just can't become entertained by it. In case anyone is wondering, yes, I have been to a few 3D cinemas and the novelty wore off after 2 minutes.

Well it shouldn't be much longer before home TVs can project the 3-D style images without the need of glasses... By much longer, I'm saying another decade maybe two... In 50 years I suspect we {or our children rather} will be enjoying fully interactive Holoprojections right in their very own living rooms...
Scientists claim that the advances we made in the 20th century will be made 10 fold {if not even more} in the 21st century... So our children, and their children, are in for some serious sh;t, as the good Dr. Brown would say...

Joel, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I don't think 3D adds anything to the experience. Personally those movies give me headaches when I try to watch them. It's the dialog and the story that always attracts me to a movie. If a movie advertises itself as having great special effects I usually consider that a black mark against them. Movies lately spend more time on effects and less time on story and character development. I'm all about the story.

Well, some really good thoughts regarding special FX and 3-D and all; makes visiting this board all the more delightful.
My 2 cents worth: I hate movie critics. Not y'all here at UOTM!!! No,no! I'm talking about the people who get paid to view and analyze movies. Let me ask you this: What is your #1 criteria for watching and reviewing a movie? For moi, I want to be entertained. Plain and simple. To me, a tear-jerker can be just as entertaining as a movie like Avatar. Yes, Ghost Writer entertained me in a different way than Avatar, but I was still entertained. On the one hand, a good story line with good acting - like Ghost Writer - can get a thumbs up as an action/adventure movie. So, I guess it's a combination of diferent factors based on what the movie is trying to do. But, if I am not entertained, I give it a thumbs down.
Now, why the above explanation? A movie in 3-D, to me, enhances the movie watching experience. Avatar was MORE exciting as a direct result of 3-D. Still, 3-D should be used sparingly and only apply to certain films. Alice in Wonderland in 3-D does noting for me; the story line does. Am I being clear here? If not, please help me understand YOUR views (I deeply appreciate your thoughts).

Jen: brilliant shots! Those are some pretty amazing pictures.
Joel: I'll agree about not getting into 3-D, and, yes, I'm aware that that might make me a grumpy old man.

That's cool you made it into the newspaper (even though it is a dying medium).
I do love your critter pic.
