Stop Uwe Boll!!
His movies are helping teenagers across the world get laid... Guys get the movie and stick it to watch with their chicks, then when she realizes the movie sucks, she decides to occupy their time with other means...
Then they go back to school and tell everyone what a great movie it was, because they had such a Good time watching it, that everyone else goes and watches it, so Boll makes sales and therefore produces more movies...

Actually, he's just a businessman who spends his money in a way other businessmen won't - making films.
Of course, it would help if he had an inkling of TALENT, but as it stands, he just plain produces unintellectual garbage on par with a commercial for edible tampons.

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like the quality of movies being pumped out into the theaters has gone done tremendously....it just seems like it's 60/40 with shitty movies taking the higher percentage. Thoughts, anyone?
"Some men aren’t looking for anything logical. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
The tools to make movies nowadays are so cheap, like computers and other things, that anyone with a few thousands bucks can make a movie and people will allow anything to be published otherwise you are stepping on their freedom of expression and speech and whatnot...
So yeah, you get people who fall into money so they think they can make it as a movie maker unfortunately in today's world, they can...

I've noticed that in all aspects of culture and entertainment.
There's a huge 'anyone can do it' mentality today that means the truly gifted people are overlooked and the majority of the audience is happy with mediocrity (how else could 'Meet the Spartans' have been #1 at the US box office?)
This is not a knock against America, i notice this happening here too, and i suspect in many other countries. =/

I didn't mean to imply that it was an American only thing... A lot of movie companies have chosen to film overseas as apposed to filming here anymore...
As for Meet The Spartans, I haven't seen it yet, but if it's as funny as the first Scary Movie or Date Movie, then I could see it being # 1 for the first weekend or two, but not long after that... And hopefully they've learned from the Scary Movie series that Sequels to Spoofs like those don't work out too well... Once is Good, but Twice is Lame...
Speaking of Comedies, I saw Airplane earlier today, Hilarious Movie, a classic...

While I agree that the quality of films making it to the box office are getting much worse, I don't agree that "anyone can make a film".
Yes, the tools may be much more acessible now than they were a while back, but you still need a significant amount of skill to be able to drive the tools with good results.
Don't forget that most of the money does not go into the tools, it goes into the talent driving them (becuase let's face it, a computer does not work all by itself). And good money buys good talent, and I think it is an insult to many talented people who work very hard to make good use of the tools, (even though the films they are working on are terrible ideas), to say that something like good special effects is simply bought for a price with little to no effort required.
Take the spartans film for example... it may be a terrible idea, but I am sure there were some very telented people doing an amazing job on the film. And its not their fault that it happens to be a crap idea... they are just there and are paid to do their best. And of course, the more money the exec. producers are able to dig up for them, they harder they will work to get better results.
If anyone is to blame its not the movie makers, its the movie goers, who keep demanding Holywood churn out more of these crap films, as box office statistics will show. Why do they pouring money into such stupid films? Becuase stupid people guarantee them a return on investment. Same with the music industry. If people got their head out of their arses and visited an independant cinema once in a while, they will realise that the world has much more to offer than what is currently available.

I understand exactly what you are saying Cub. The mentality of movie goers has gone from intelligent to "hi, i'm a 13 year old, hee hee". As a whole, the viewing audience is a collective dumbass, and will drop $8.50 to anything that runs for an hour and half and has flashy lights. Point being, there isn't much intelligence in the whole movie experience anymore. Some fault to the audience for paying for crap week in and week out. And you're right, there are probably tons of very, very talented people working on these pieces of $#it films, probably just to make a living and have no choice. I mean come on, say you're a struggling production assistant in hollywood..what are you gonna do to pay your bills? Work on the extremely low budget work of brilliance, OR, take the job on the set of Scary Movie 88 with it's bigger budget and guarantee of getting at least 5 million teenagers in the theaters? Really, in my opinion, it all comes down to great scripts...and from these movies that are out there, I just don't see quality scripts. But, that's my opinion, for what it's worth...commence shreading it apart.
"Some men aren’t looking for anything logical. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
Mm. This is the same audience that stopped 'Idiocracy' from getting a cinema release because the test audiences "didn't get it", yet i watch that movie, and while funny, it scares the crap outta me that we're already heading in that direction.

Very well said adnins...
It is very much to do with the scripts, and the directors as well. The process goes: you have a director, he finds a script he likes, decides to make it, and the film is made. So if you have a crap script, most good directors would not even touch it... but there are some terrible directors out there who think its a great idea to make crap scripts into films (Uwe Boll, and many others). And of course the more this happens, the more the demographic of the movie goers changes, and now every half-baked director is turning crap scripts into money making giants!
Seriously folks, make it your mission to go see at least one film festival every few months. You will see some brilliant films I guaratee it!

I've been to a couple for business related reasons... You are correct, you see some very good films... I attended on about 4 years ago, saw this amazing movie, but it has yet to be released... I can't figure out why... I'm telling you it was an Amazing Film... Was really hoping to be able to buy it a year later, but have yet to see or hear of it again... Wish I could remember the name, but I'd know if if I saw previews for it...
