Yes, well, allow me to give you some British-to-American talking tips.
First off, purge the word 'fag' from your vocabulary. In the US, it doesn't mean cigarette. At all. Most of them don't even know brits use the word in that regard.
Second, geezer means senile old bastard, so don't go around calling people that.
Also, lastly, feel free to call them spoons, sponges, plebs, melons, lemons, plonker etc, because these terms are totally unknown to them and they do not understand their meanings.
When in doubt however, do the Cockney rhyming thing, that'll get them away from you.
"Oi mate? Can ye spot me an Ayrton so's I don't miss my Michael?"
I love the british language.

OK so sort of like a London tube. Except the letters and numbers are a bit odd. Ah well! I think I've got my route from youth hostel to start of tour sorted, but how to get from Newark International Airport to the hostel is the interesting one. I refuse to pay cab fares. I'll walk!!

Oh thanks for the tips Fred! Luckily I don't smoke so "fag" shouldn't crop up. And my accent is definitely Surrey (ie slightly up myself) so Cockney Rhyming Slang may be a tiny bit difficult!

Never been on a Tube so I can't compare for you... But they are probably a lot alike...
If you find yourself being followed by strange people just start doing the "Arguing With Yourself" thing... And get really mean with yourself, they should leave you alone after that... "Crazy, Crazy Is Good, Crazy Keeps 'Em Away", Leslie Ann Warren from Life Stinks...

Will you be traveling anywhere else besides New York and Kansas???
Make sure you try to spread some Tex Murphy everywhere you go...
After re-reading the thread, I don't think anyone answered your question...

What time does it get dark over there in September?
In September it shouldn't get Dark until around 8pm or so, give or take a Half Hour depending on the sky, if it's clear out it will be after 8pm most likely, if it is thick heavy clouds then it will probably get dark around 7:30pm...
Sun comes up probably around 6:30am, same rule applies with the Sky conditions, it will begin to get light around 6am or so if the skies are clear and 6:30am to 7am if it is all cloudy...

Ah brilliant, thanks! So I have longer than I thought to tootle round. Not going anywhere else, unfortunately, although in 2009 I want to spend 2 months and go round the eastern states by Amtrak!! (and Greyhound at the places where Amtrak fails me...)
My cunning plan is to visit these in order:
New York
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Chicago
Kansas City
St Louis
Memphis
Baton Rouge
Atmore
(and then somewhere else if I haven't got bored by then)
Oh yes and Boston!!

Baltimore, Maryland is nicknamed Charm City... Though since I live here, I don't really see what is so charming about it... I guess you have to be a visitor/tourist to see the Charms of Charm City... lol
I love traveling myself... Went out to Montana last February... I loved it out there, but I can't get the Wife to move so I'm stuck here...
I plan to hit Alaska next summer, but first I have to take the family on a vacation before I get another vacation... So I promised to take them to Disney World this year... Normally if they aren't big vacations like Disney, we'll be there for just over 2 weeks, but if they aren't big vacations we'll take 2 or 3 a year... Normally I get one to myself to go and Unwind so to speak... It usually turns out to be a Guy trip somewhere with adventure to totally zap our minds out of the world... Works pretty well I might add...

Unfortunately I can't do a "guy trip", but nevermind. I've heard that New England is awesome in the Autumn so might see if I can fit that in somewhere. We'll have to see.
Happy easter everyone - right now it's snowing (but not staying put) which is not what you expect at Easter! It's 3 months too late!!!

We've gotten snow on Easter around here before... Yes New England is something else in the Fall if you go to the right places, you need to take leisurely drives out into the country areas and get a lay of the land... All the trees all sorts of colors, it's quite the site...
So are there any thoughts of actually moving over here or do you just like come over here a lot???

I just remember you talking about spending 2 months over here next year...
You're a Spy aren't you??? You checking out our country, finding out weaknesses??? Well I'll tell you our President's Weakness... It's Pretzels... Give him a Pretzel and the chances of him choking to death increase greatly...

Yeah I'd like to spend 2 months over there because I'm adventurous and have too much money! But September will be my little taster trip. So if I don't like it, or if I fail to get Monsieur Bush to choke on a pretzel, I won't come back and I'll spend my 2 months in.... CANADA!!
Anyway Bafitis - ever been to Staten Island?

You know there are other ways to use your money if you have too much of it... You can always invest in the BLF...
No, I never made it out to Staten Island... Just the more main areas of New York...
