If nobody 'hits' it, so that the statistics are low, it should go pretty cheap. Although people buy these domains hoping to make a killing, they can't make a killing on all of them. How much do you all think it'd go for?
When they realize that no big company is going to buy it and only shoe-string budget fan-sites are interested, they may cut their losses and sell it for what it costs them.
I just did a search and found that, although texmurphy.com is taken (but up for sale) texmurphy.net, .org, .info, .us, .biz are still available.
You can buy texmurphy.net for only ten dollars a year. Pretty cheap. Somebody jump on it before it's too late.
I don't want it because I doubt that I would put it to good use.
Because the current asking price is $300.00. I started negotiations through the site. You can't speak directly to the seller. Comments take 1 day or more to process.
Mine has been the 3rd offer made so far to purchase TexMurphy.com, and it was cancelled when I requested justification for the asking price. (It was on the pull down menu of 4 available direct questions you could send with your bid)
In my comment, which they may only within the next day read, or dismiss entirely, made mention that no income or revenue would be made from the site, only as a fan board and gathering.
I resubmitted a much higher bid, and am waiting for resulting answer, or counterbid. I am hesistant to pay the full asking price, as I think it's a tad unreasonable. We'll see how much the seller is.
Texmurphy.net and .org seem protected for the moment from being hijacked by other opportunists.
It would be safe to assume that Dr.Paul is correct and that further hits will only increase his justification of the selling price.

Are you saying that the domain can be had for three hundred dollars? I'd be tempted, but I don't know what I'd do with it except protect it from being used how it currently is. We could each put in ten bucks and easily raise that. Even if we just setup a redirection link to here (the message board.)
Think of it as the TexMurphy Preservation Society.
Wouldn't that be interesting if the texmurphy.com domain belonged to unofficialTexMurphy? I like it. We should do that and then sell it to Chris at cost.
To see what kind of interest there is, I'll start by offering fifty buck to the fund.
