Did Tex cheat Sylvia with Rhonda?
Here is another thing that bothers me! The ending of MS shows Tex and Sylvia speeding away into the sunset, suggesting a promising future.
In the time shortly before UAKM they divorce.
In the meantime, they must had had an affair and marry.
Where Martian Memorandum fits in all this? Normally Tex would have been married or engaged with Sylvia in MM. However not only Sylvia is absent but Tex also has an one-night with Rhonda; and then seems to be interested in Alexa.
If we ignore Okkham's Razor, we can suppose that the ending of MS shows the beginning of a romantic interest with its ins and outs, and did not evolve until after MM.
Still, I wonder why the designers of UAKM made Sylvia Tex's archnemesis and not Alexa. The continuity would fit more seamlessly between MM and UAKM. Perhaps they could not find a curly-haired redhead actress for Alexa and they had to stick with Kris Mickler's similarity to Sylvia of MS??
Is any explanation given in Overseer? Any other official word?

Ah, continuity. How funny.
Tex was such a stud before Aaron Conners ruined his life-- I mean, made the series better.
I think the thing with Rhonda happened after Tex separated. It makes sense.
But the way that Tex's cautious romance with Regan plays out, it's hard to believe that this ever happened

I dont think that Tex is divorced in MM.
The flashback scene with Sylvia and Rudy happens in Tex's apartment in the Ritz, with the armchairs and all. These elements are not shown in MM. I dont remember if MM mentions anything about Ritz but I don't think so.
I believe that in MM Tex lives "somewhere" in SF, then moves on to Ritz with Sylvia, and then the Rudy incident and divorce takes place.
I know about the (non)continuity of the early games, but until they retcon them or something, this is all the canon we have.
I have yet to play Overseer to see how much of the early continuity has been retconned

Tex was divorced before MM; at least this seems sensible. While he is not a prude, he is a morally upright person overall. Sylvia was rotten to the core and probably cheated on Tex while on their honeymoon. My guess, anyway. Maybe she waited until the insurance money was spent. At any rate, while Tex tried to remain true to Chelsee in PD, you will see a different Tex on the BOBD path (after Chelsee walks out). He goes after Reagan like a an over-sexed bull. Who can blame him?

Good to see you posting again, Jim! We've missed you 'round here.
And yeah, you're probably right about the timeline. Tex would never allow himself to step out on his wife.
I wonder if she'll ever walk into his life again...

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Haha. I loved the totally clothed sex scene. It was so different from all the other sex scenes I'd seen in movies and TV. I assume they did it because of the censors at the time but thought it was really original.joliet_jane wrote: Of course, doing a sex scene fully clothed makes him the most prudish oversexed bull in history.
And no, I can't blame him.
As for me, yes I can blame him for going after Regan. Any decently broken-hearted guy would have at least grieved a few days before jumping on top of someone else. Then again it was Path C Tex who's a heartless bastard. Nah I can still blame him.

Me too. I never would have guessed it was Aaron that loved the happy endings where the guy gets the girl. Path A Tex may have been too squeaky clean for some, but I enjoyed seeing his scenes. Most of us live on Path B, but it was nice to see that the grass was greener on the other side.

I don't think there was much in the way of censorship of video games back then. Even today it's mostly a voluntary rating system agreed to by the publishers, AFAIK.I assume they did it because of the censors at the time but thought it was really original.

Could it be that Chris just wasn't comfortable doing a de-clothed scene? Also, maybe he just thought it would be funnier that way.
As far as the Rudy scene in UAKM goes, there may be some other explanations.
First, UAKM was a huge break-through in the adventure gaming genre. FMV was introduced and has simply exploded in all genres since.
Secondly, we need to take this into consideration: UAKM was a break-through but it does not always follow the newer time-lines and ascetics of Tex' life. For example, Tex says to the Colonel: "Why'd you throw me out 15 years ago?" Wasn't exactly 15 years, was it. Also, keep this in mind: the game was not trying to set EVERYTHING in order; it was simply trying to compete, as well as, set the bar in a gaming experience. It hit the market like a hurricane and was a real, true success story for Access. The scene was more comical that factual. IF, and I do mean IF, this really happened, it could have taken place anywhere and not necessarily in his offment (office/apartment). It seems we were led to believe what TMO verified: Sylvia was a playgirl. a flirt, perhaps an escort/call girl at one time and she could never get out of that rut.
Third, are we to believe that mutants like Beek Nariz actually existed? With extreme deformities? Maybe, but probably not. To me the mutant population may have been more represented by Louie than Beek.
Fourth, forget everything I just said and let's chalk it up to just good Tex fun.
