PayPal

According to Jane's update on May 31, $8,400 had been raised by PayPal.

Also keep in mind Tex will end with more backers than Jane. She only had 5,836. We will probably end closer to 6,500 - 7,000.
I have found some graph data that may explain the PayPal numbers:

There are ways to update pictures dynamically or every so often automatically (Kicktraq is just pictures for example)

I don't know if thats what they're doing however. I notice the image link has some kind of variable number added to it, hm:
kickstarter_stretchtex.jpg?1339191873

They may just be updating it manually daily though since it just says "Update 6/8". Guess we'll see when they make it official.

It was $8408 in the end from the last update I read.

Some other Kickstarters had much better luck, but as they weren't adventure games I guess they can't be compared to. Leisure SUit Larry was around 23k in the end but they did run a risk by collecting early in the campaign before hitting the goal.

You can autogenerate things like that with a batch every few hours updating.
Or just have someone in your office update the numbers every few hours.
It's just now occurred to me that it is still completely un-obvious on the Kickstarter page that PayPal is possible. For my ads, I can only link to one URL. So I'm going with the PayPal page for a while.

They're not actually finished setting up PayPal. Not sure what the hold up is though. They said they would announce on the Kickstarter when they were officially ready for PayPal donations.
Yet they linked it right on the BigFinish homepage though.... don't ask me why... But they've said twice in the Kickstarter comments they'll announce when and to wait until then *shrugs*. Send them a Message if you want to make sure its read first for your ad campaign.

It seems PayPal is officially open now they added a big image to their Kickstarter homepage. I got confused because I thought people were talking about the link on the BigFinish homepage (which they seemed to say didnt mean they were ready yet for whatever reason in the Kickstarter comments). I guess they will do a video Update about it later today since the Kickstarter mainpage changes so little except to add a new video update that I hadn't really scrolled down there to look lol...

Still kinda buggy though because they seem to not be updating the same PayPal total image fluidly (as in just overwriting the old immediately ratehr than deleting it and leaving big gaps). It dissappears completely and comes back later. Some say they've never even seen the PayPal total image before due to the gaps where it goes missing. Hopefully they figure out a easier way to update it.

Sai, you made the DRM/DLC image, right? Can you make it smaller in height so that more people will be able to see the PayPal bit without scrolling as much? I don't know if it would make a difference.

Sure. I originally had more on it but gave the PSD so they could edit/remove any text they saw fit. Does have quite a bit of empty space though now (without the extra explanatory text) that could be cropped.

How about this? Or?

I think they need to make an Update about it. The mainpage hasn't changed much since the beginning unless adding a new video update (or voting on a reward which gets announced on facebook etc.) so most dont check there anymore...

If I don't see an update regarding the PayPal option before I go to sleep I'm going to bug them with a message about it, seriously, not everyone tracks the front page and all the people with "Remind Me" won't know about the PayPal option unless an official announcement is made.

It just needs to be short so someone at a common resolution can see there's something to scroll down and see sticking. Every pixel is screen real estate with $ value.

Here's a very crap example:

Very true about screen real estate and "above the line" :) But when I made the image everyone was asking for something like Carmageddon that was big and obvious to stop DRM/DLC discussion.

Most resolutions will have to scroll though. My screen resolution is 1600x900 and all I see is the pitch video and facebook/etc. share buttons.
How about this?

I think the main issue right now with PayPal visibility though is its not been announced in an Update yet, maybe theyre just getting a video ready:

Feel dumb now :(. I only look at update and comment pages never thought about looking on the home page. lol.

Updates are more for the people that already backed. Prospective paypal backers won't get the email or anything.

I think if it were announced in an Update current backers could spread the word about it more or tell those who they had tried to get to pledge before but couldnt due to the payment restriction. Also there seems to be some current backers in the comments who were looking for it for various reasons.

The other thing is they said twice in Kickstarter comments "Don't donate to the PayPal until we let you know when we're ready for your donations", so some may still be waiting for word from them (I was waiting for them to make an announcement so I could let people know on the Tex Murphy Steam group, I didn't notice the Kickstarter page change until people told me in the comments). Any and all exposure is good, example from the Jane Jensen Kickstarter:

But I guess they are getting to it though.

@joilet_jane: Hows that last one? If its OK I'll send it into them via Send Message. :)

*A non steam PC version*?

I hope they don't count Steam as a form of DRM. You get that game to that platform and you're going to sell a lot of copies even if you're game sucks and you made it for three dollars. PEOPLE BUY FRIVOLOUS THINGS ON STEAM ... Now Tex isn't frivolous, but it is niche. But I guarantee you get Tex Murphy onto Steam and we'll see a sequel. I guarandamtee it.
