Congratulations to all of the "Old Guard".

What great words, YouHaveAFax!

I think all the old guard include all the lurkers, all those who stayed the course, all those who came back and all those who joined the gang over the years. It doesn't matter if any stopped posting or lost the faith, because we all did it collectively.

No single person made this happen, it was definitely a group effort. :P

Noob status could be conferred on anyone who joined before Kickstarter was even mentioned. I joined in 2010 and I remember the thread (or was it in the FAQ) that actually mentioned a crowd funded game, and Chris and Aaron rejected back then as being unreasonable. Of course, there was no Kickstarter back then (I think), but that just goes to show what forward thinking people we all are. :D

If I remember right they were just too humble to want to take our money in that way, which is probably why they pursued releasing smaller games under the Big Finish name first to try and raise the funds themselves, but it wasn't enough to make a "full Tex Murphy" game. Plus I think they worried if it was something like a PayPal chipin that money could just sit there for years tied up whilst it trickled up to the amount they needed as a minimum. But the newer crowdfunding sites (of which Kickstarter is one but not the only or first of course) means that donators and the devs can know within a month or so what will happen with hose funds.

They (and many others too, considering we only had the active members on this site to go by as far as current interest at first) understimated though just how much people were prepared to come forward with their hard earned cash.

I don't know if I count as old guard. I've been here forever, but I kind of only post when exciting things happen and then I go away again.
I'm a n00b... Through and through.

Tex isn't the most well known franchise around (though we'll change that now, won't we?), and there wasn't anything new for over a decade. Almost a decade and a half, if we discount the brilliant Radio Theatre. Yet, this community stuck together. When the Kickstarter went live, I started reading these forums again more regularly, and it's quite amazing to see so many of the old names still around.
I've been thinking the same thing. CJ has mentioned a few times "websites" still devoted to the Tex Murphy games, but the real story is, it is this website that is the reason we have a new Tex game coming out. And I don't mean just the "Old Guard" -- both the old ones and those who still think fondly enough of Tex to join the board now in 2012. Not to be overdramatic, but this has been an oasis in a dry desert land. If it hadn't been here with its Fedora Faithful refugees, I truly doubt CJ and AC would have had the faith to try again. And I know they wouldn't have been nearly as successful.

So yes, hats off to our mothership, the UTM board, and to all of its crew, old and new.

As someone who was around years ago (as in over ten) in the Tex community, I had given up hope and assumed that Tex would never return. I just want to thank you all for sticking with it to make this happen. Whilst I haven't been an active member of the community for some time, I still follow what's going on and am very happy to see the return of Tex.

I think that this site did have something to do with the revival of tex, but if you really think about it, this site was made because of the great work AC and CJ put into the Tex games.

Without them, this site never would have come about or would have had as many people stick around.

Not to mention, the fact that they were part of our community too, which I think made a big difference in people keeping the faith.

Had everyone just been left in the dark for fourteen years, well... these forums could have very well died out with the occasional visitor coming to poke around. I know sometimes the traffic was kind of low previous to this news. It was by no means dead, but there were definitely slow weeks.

I think our group of interesting people kept the boards alive too. This forum was kind of run much differently than most. You didn't have to worry about being torn apart or being made fun of like most boards. The people on most forums are nasty... which is why I am not part of a lot of them. The only time anyone had to ever worry about that sort of thing is if they did something nasty themselves first and offended the community.

Anyway, I don't think it is just one thing that brought tex back. It was a combination of many things.

I've been into Tex since UAKM. Played it when it first came out. . .I was in my 30's! The game was so innovative it actually got press in Newsweek, as the first interactive movie.

I've been a member of this board even before it was on this current platform. Last time I checked, I think I was the 3rd oldest member (by age) on the board.

I too have kept the faith for all of these years, and simply cannot express how excited I am about the new game! I simply can't wait! I've never beta tested anything, so I can't wait to see what that's all about. I wanted to get my hand on the new game as soon as I could.

I've been more of a lurker than a poster for the past couple of years, but I'm still on the team!
