First time post! sound problems with UAKM and Pandora
Hi
I'm a first time poster, although I've visited the site many times before. The reason for my post is because I just bought UAKM and Pandora, both of which I've never played. I also have Overseer, which I just finished playing and it ran without any problems. And I like it so much that I decided to purchase UAKM and Pandora. Well, I can't get any sound, and I heard that it was possible to run VDMSound on a Win 98SE system. So, I decided to give it a try, because of the sound problems with my integrated SoundMax card - it refuses to be recognized in the setup of UAKM and Pandora. Well, I downloaded the VDMSound file, but when I attempt to install it I keep getting this message: YOU MUST BE RUNNING AS AN ADMINISTRATOR TO INSTALL VDMSOUND. I'm the only person who operates this PC, and I have no idea why this message would appear. Is there a way I can get around this? And if there is, I would appreciate detailed instructions on how to accomplish it - my computer skills are not the best!
I would appreciate any help anyone has to offer.
Thanks very much!
Kathy

VDMSound is an older program designed for users with Windows XP/2000 systems that want to run DOS-based programs like the first 2 Tex CD games. DOSBox is what most people use for this purpose nowadays, as it is a newer program and gives better results. If you're using Win98SE you have access to true MS-DOS and your first course of action should be to search for DOS drivers for the Soundmax.
Check the installation/driver disk that came with the system for a DOS directory. If you don't have any luck yourself, give me the model number of the Soundmax and I'll see if I can find the drivers for you. It should be listed on your motherboard or PC's manual.
Welcome to the forum.

That's my problem - SoundMax does not support MS-DOS, and as aresult there are no SoundMax drivers available for DOS. And that's why I was wanting to install VDMSound, so I could use the virtual drivers that it offers. But like I said, when I attempt to install it I keep getting this message: "YOU MUST BE RUNNING AS AN ADMINISTRATOR TO INSTALL VDMSOUND."
But how do I run as an "Administrator" in Windows 98SE, so I can install VDMSound?
Thank you
Kathy

Alex, I don't understand why you would think I was "joking"? I'm just so happy that someone on this message board was able to help me, and believe me, Alex, I was at the end of my wits trying get the sound to work in UAKM and Pandora. And that's no joke!Alex Bark wrote:You are welcome, Kathy! If you are not joking.
Thanks again for your help, Alex

Jerry Dan:Jerry Dan wrote:Well, Kathy, I'm afraid some on this board have given poor Alex a complex - he gets ribbed so much about various things that sometimes he doesn't know if he's missing a hidden sarcastic nuance (Russian is his first language). Am I right, Alex?
And by the way, welcome
First: I am not rich guy, but not poor.
Second: You have surprised me!
Third: My first language? You are completely right, tovarich.
Kathy: Welcome to the Tex message board
Truly yours,
Alexander.
