Leisure Suit Larry on Kickstarter

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/145 ... come-again

This is good news. I never played the old LSL games, but they looked really cool. A modern update is just what this series needs. This campaign will run until May 2. I hope this campaign does well!

Since Big Finish pre-announced their plans, let’s hope that no other adventure game funds start on May 15 to compete with Tex. That would be bad. :-(
oh.. i... i bet CJ and AC knew about that!

Actually I think they messed up by not making LSL8.

2012 could be the year for adventure games, but developers need to wait in line so to speak or else there could be oversaturation.
When it comes to LSL, the earlier the era the better to be honest. As they went on, they just kind of lost their "mojo". There was a real grittiness to the first three games but then they just started getting more cartoonish after that. Love For Sail was too centred on the sexual innuendo for me, it didn't give me enough characters I could care about. As for he ones they did without Al Lowe...don't get me started.

But, the good thing about this is that we could finally get the long awaited follow ups to games like Grim Fandango, Full Throttle and maybe even a remake of Darkseed.
I Love Larry, Larry Laffer, he was/is one of the Kewlest game characters ever... He was just so pitiful that you had to care about him... It's so awesome that they go Al Lowe to come and get involved in this revamp... Hopefully they throw a bit more in than just a remake, the original game was just way too short... Once you stopped dying and failing and realized what needed to be done, it had very little replay value...

I do agree about the later games though, they just focused too much on the cartoon element and the sexual jokes were just so thick that they just fell flat most of the time...

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing all of them and do so from time to time, but the first 3 were by far the best...

I suppose it could have been part of Sierra's plan to just broaden their audience, which is cool. There's nothing wrong with that to me which is why I absolutely hate it when people wag their fingers and cursing "sell out" when all the artist is trying to do is keep their work moving.

If I had to be disappointed with Al Lowe, i'd have to say it's that we didn't get to see him create a stand-alone game series outside of LSL. He certainly has the talent for it because he's clearly capable of writing characters that are interesting.
I'd like to see Ken and Roberta Williams come out of Retirement and breathe some life back into the King's Quest series, with a kewl revamp or perhaps a new adventure...

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think we should be promoting competition for Tex. So for Tex I will say that I think people will find a remake of a game that has already had a remake repetitive.
Seems more like a discussion to me... I'm certainly not promoting it and I won't be donating money to it either... Tex will get all of my attention... Just wish it wasn't still more than a month away... Still worried about that... I just feel they are coming to the party too late and the fire won't be burning as hot... I certainly hope that's not the case, but I'm certainly feeling bad about the space between the announcement and the Kickstarter date...

at least they can learn from other`s kickstarters and make improvements of their own...

i love the tex games.. but i sure as h*** love the larry games as well :) theyl get my money
Uh Oh.. Codemaster's is involved with it... No forking way is that getting my money lol. Kick them out of it and we might have something.. but not a cent goes to them till Codemasters is 100% out of this project.

Get those greedy ass publisher fucks off Kickstarter!

As for the LSL team, its great they're trying to stay true to the source, its great that Al Lowe is back out of retirement. I just seriously doubt the business plan they have, their team is way too small to ensure a quality product. We'd be looking at a HD Mobile remake at best here. Not a full fledged PC title. To me that's pretty underwhelming (especially since Monkey Island did this without having to resort to community funding).

Codemasters has the money.. I seriously don't get it, why wouldn't codemasters actually fund them the old fashioned way? to me its cheap and frankly the devs shouldn't be getting involved with them given Codemaster's history of being dicks when it comes to IP.
Yes Replay games had to license the rights. I suppose I consider initial discussion of a Kickstarter project people otherwise may not know about promoting. However you can't measure the results of the Larry campaign for Tex, because a lot of people find that franchise offensive.
The last two games were offensive... the ones Al Lowe didn't make.

As for all the ones he was involved in... I felt they were a lot more innocent.... kind of how you feel about your pervert grandpa or uncle with all the dirty jokes.

The previous games were a lot more subtle and Larry was just so pathetic. It is what made the games so funny.

A remake of a remake. Interesting. Why not just make a new Larry?
