Textimonials

Here is a thread for our testimonials, which should henceforth be known as Textimonials. We can use this thread to brainstorm what the best Textimonials should mention. I will start… here are my first rough drafts…

1. The Tex Murphy games are the pinnacle of interactive entertainment, and the exciting memories that the games have created will last a lifetime. I hardly ever replay games, but I’ve played the Tex Murphy games numerous times because they are so exciting, engaging, interesting, funny, and extraordinary. Every gamer on the planet should give the games a try, even if they absolutely hate adventure games. The games are challenging, but players should never be discouraged, because the games have some of the most advanced hint systems to date.

2. If you thought that a funny adventure game also couldn’t be a serious thriller, then you have not played the Tex Murphy game, Under a Killing Moon. This game seamlessly combines mysterious conspiracies, dangerous situations, interesting and immersive 3D environments, exciting puzzles, diverse characters, and adventure gaming’s most interesting protagonist.

3. In gaming culture, full motion video adventure games have always had the stigma of being cheap, boring, un-interactive, and just plain garbage. Below the heaps of trash lies some true gems -- the extremely underrated Tex Murphy games which are absolutely magnificent in every sense of the word. The film quality video is interactive, where players choose not what Tex will say, but instead, the type of response that he will deliver, making each conversation an edge-of-your-seat thrill-ride.

4. The Tex Murphy games include tons of extremely immersive, living, breathing 3D environments where you can look for clues in desk drawers, in trash cans, under couch cushions, and other places that most adventure games only dream to hide things in. Objects are never hidden from view or hard to see, because the games are in full 3D.

5. The Pandora Directive is, without a doubt, the best computer game ever made. It’s a shame that so few have heard of it, and even fewer have actually played it. Everyone who has played it agrees that it is the best game ever. It has everything an exciting game needs – meaningful, multi-faceted storylines, deep character development, quality acting and directing, fun puzzles, and humor in all the right places. The game also has great accessibility, with two levels of play which cater to two different types of gamers. Player choice also has a huge impact on the game’s story, as there are three completely different narrative paths leading to seven different endings.

6. When Under a Killing Moon was released, gamers around the globe were blown away with how remarkable the technology was. When Tex Murphy: Overseer was released, they were blown away again with the humungous leaps in technology. Overseer was the first DVD game to ever exist, and it took full advantage of the new medium with HD interactive HD video and immersive 3D environments. This game wasn’t simply a flashback of what happened in Tex’s first game, it was a completely new experience.

7. The developers behind the award winning Tex Murphy masterpiece games are great game developers, actors, writers, music composers, programmers, technical support associates, and sales associates. In addition to being the absolute best at what they do, they are also great, ethical people that have a passion for their games and their fan-base. When the last Tex Murphy game was released in 1998, I was so young that I had no credit card, checking account, or car, but I did have some cash. I mailed an envelope with cash in it directly to Access Software, indicating that I would like to purchase Overseer. Shortly thereafter, I received Overseer and the soundtrack CD in the mail. I tried this “cash in the mail” thing with EA to purchase one of their games around the same time, but they just pocketed the cash. I think you know what company I’m going to support on May 15, but this time, I’ll use my credit card!

8. Black Dahlia, Casebook, Conspiracies… so many adventure games try to be like Tex Murphy, but none of them can capture the original unlucky, cynical, satirical, and all-around likeable Tex Murphy. These other games also attempt to grasp the technological and gameplay aspects that made the Tex games great, and they fall short, paling in comparison.

9. Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Runaway, Sam & Max… if you thought a humorous adventure game had to be a silly animated cartoon, then you are absolutely mistaken. If you thought that a first person adventure game had to be a solitary exploration game with hair-ripping-out puzzles, then you are also mistaken. If you’ve played a Tex Murphy game, then you definitely agree that they are some of the best ever made, and that a new Tex game could be better than anyone could ever imagine!

Those are the Textimonials that I can think of right now. I’m looking forward to reading everyone else’s Textimonials!
you should sell games

LOL thanks!
I think it should be mentioned that pandora was voted no.9 in the best 100 adventure games, although I feel it should have been no.3 at least.

Texstarter
let me write textimonial, based on your massive "Pre-Kickstarter Campaign" post:

"Tex is most like Portal 2, but Tex can talk, so he`s much more interesting character than Chell. With interactive conversations, inventory and ton of gameplay hours, just like in an RPG. Include Plants vs. Zombies style puzzles! Tex games were created by someone who is currently creating The Sims games. So Tex is about story, just like the Sims. Playing pool in a Duke game is not a whole lot different from playing the piano as Tex. Tex series has the theme and gameplay style of LA Noire, the player choice of Mass Effect and the story depth of Bioshock. With awkward interface and pixilated graphics that are actually really good for 1994-1998 and won’t be an issue in the to-be-released Fedora. And it`s definitely not a Monkey Island clone...

Go buy it on GOG!"

Hey everyone - It would be great if you could put your testimonials on video. Hearing people is a lot more compelling than reading text. We'd like to do a video montage of lots of fans saying what they love most about Tex.

And, btw, it's CHELSEE. :-)
Argh some of us are camera shy and would rather write text.

I'll try to see how the video looks from my webcam. How do you want us to deliver video files to you?

I always knew it was Cheslee. That's what made her extra special.

I think I'm gonna work on a video this weekend.

Quick question though: Once we've made a video, where do we send it? I'd assume you guys would want to stuff it up on some site of yours?

Man you go away for a little while when your life bottoms out and all of a sudden there's tangible buzz of a new Tex game. A lot can happen when you're busy crawling out of the gutter! I would love to make a video regarding the impact that Tex has had on my life. In fact it was a significant one. I was going to do a special episode on one of my upcoming web series dedicated entirely to Tex but that is still a ways off. I can whip up a quick fan video if it will help in ANY way for us getting a new Tex game made. These games changed my life for the better (and sometimes worse) but it is completely worth it. The least I can do is give my testimonial.

My only concern is where can I send this video? I would much rather have a direct location to upload my video than something like YouTube etc. for all to see. Also I film everything in 1080p and would like to give them my raw video. The best way to do that would be to upload it to Big Finish's site or maybe this one. However the file size can be too much for a website to handle so maybe there is a place that I can old fashioned mail my video to? I can save it to whatever format they need for either option. I just hope that they have to capacity to handle professional level video. I am assuming they can but sometimes you never know for sure. I am surprised at how many production companies that are not ready for true HD at this point in the game. Can we have a little more information regarding submissions?
Once Upon a time, on Christmass Day 1994 i had a special gift... My first computer with my first game called: Under A Killing Moon. I started to play and 18hours after i must have to stop a little to sleep.

Under A Killing Moon was such an unique experience that is my favorite game ever. At the time i was bad in english, and the game was in english. I remember there was a paper to send in order to have the "french" version. But i played the first time all in english and it was so good !

After that i was waiting for Pandora Directive each day of my life, i remember at college each lunch time i used to think about Tex's new game.

I was never desapointed in a tex murphy's game. Then i found 10, 12 years ago i guess, this website and another one (in french) with the Tex Murphy Radio Theater episodes.

Since like every tex's fan i hope a new game. I played and bought big finish games and of course tex murphy series on GOG to help them and for my own pleasure (Sorry to be selfish tex i hope you forgive me ;) )

So when the Kickstarter Campain was officially announced i was so excited. I will help even if i'm pretty poor cause with the thousand games i played in my life UAKM and TM series is the best in my opinion and TM is really special for me (i'm straight tex don't be afraid)

I posted this Textimonials and hope it will be not helpless.
Like a lot of fan i except not more or less like the other texmurphy games: good screenplay with a huge part of humour (the AC & Chris Jones style). I will appreciate if they used litterature like Edgar Alan Poe in UAKM it was really a + for the game.

What new did i except ? One thing only... like in jane jensen's games to play 2 characters in the game: Tex and Chelsea. It could be a good idea for the screenplay too.

Try sending a message to Big Finish via their Contact page. I think either they could

- Collect all the fan videos and combine them into one for the Kickstarter page (the videos could be uploaded to a fileserver site e.g. mediafire or sent via a Dropbox account or FTP from PC to PC).

- Or people could upload it to Youtube, Vimeo or some other site (Youtube goes up to 1080p, though its true they compress it so indeed not true HD, I think the quality can still be great, it may depend on the settings though, there are some guides/discussions around). Then they can use the "embed" option to add the videos on the Kickstarter page (or create a playlist of testimonials). Alternatively they can use a plugin to grab the HD video from Youtube to work with creating a combined version.

I think they might use a site like Youtube or Vimeo to host and embed the video from either way though since thats what they used for the Kickstarter announcement trailer. The hugely successful Kickstarter project from Doublefine used multiple Youtube embeds also.
