I've written 12 chapters so far.....

....of the novel I started writing back in August. I probably would be a lot further along, but I only write when I'm on break at work. It's getting to be very interesting. My editor, Steve (my oldest friend in the world) is totally digging it....but of course he's biased. lol I hope to have it finished by summer, at which point, I will let you guys know when it's done, and if you want to sample it and give me feedback, you can PM me.

How's everyone else on the board doing these days?

Keep chipping away at it! I thought for a moment that Aaron would have posted the same thing

We're doing well, waiting patiently for news.

I don't want to give too much away of the novel until I can get at least halfway through it first but here's a brief rundown of the first chapter....

The main character is Daniel Lee Williamson....Dan to most people...Mr. Williamson to his boss Ellis Olsteen. Dan is a Lead Financial Advisor for a real estate acquisition company in Nashville. He's a closet alcoholic fighting depression rooted in the loss of his father who has passed from cancer. He's young, he's talented, he's rich, and he's looking to make Partner in his company. He's basically a closer for big time real estate deals....when deals can't be reached between two parties, he's called in to negotiate the terms of the deal as an outside party, taking a large commission for the deal. He comes to work on a wednesday morning, business as usual, but the whole office is a buzz with news of a potential money making deal. Turns out the deal is on a large chunk of land in Kentucky but what makes the deal special, is A - the state of Kentucky has asked for help in closing the deal and B - the reason they need help is because the land owner can't be found, even though taxes have been paid in full on the land every year on time ever since the land owner went missing 32 years prior. So Dan who is from Kentucky, gets appointed by his bosses to go to Kentucky to try and track down the landowner for a possible deal signing. But what he finds when he makes the trip to Kentucky is a county full of people scared to talk about the missing landowner, a sheriff with a power trip, and a long hard look in the mirror to figure out the broken pieces of his life.

So there you have it....

I demand you finish this book.

13 chapters are completed now. Well, I'm still proofreading chapter 13 and cleaning up the dialogue and adding paragraph breaks in, but it's at least written. I've actually taken the last week off from doing anymore writing, and started making notes about the progression of the story. I want to get the timeline of events in the novel in order before I move forward because I'm at a critical part in the story and I don't wanna screw it up and have to go back and fix it later. It's a process, but it's great. Every chapter, I feel like I get better with my writing. It's an awesome feeling to be honest.

Awesome! Congratulations! :) I know what an awesome feeling it is. I spent 1 and a half year on writing the FMV drama "The Art of Drowning" and in the early stages I was full of doubts... Am I really a writer? Am I smart enough to handle the complexity of the script? etc.

But the more progress I made, the more confident I got. It was an incredible process to see how my creation was filled with life more and more. Can't express in words how proud I was (and still am) when the "monster" I created was completed.
I'm currently writing my next game and the interesting thing is that I'm back to where I started with the first script. All the doubts are back, but at the same time I already know how much satisfaction I will have when I finish this.

Again, congratulations! You really deserve to be proud of yourself! :) Really looking forward to find out more.
I agree wholeheartedly. It's a special kind of warm fuzzy feeling when you start to realize that, yes, indeed, you can do this.

If you're very lucky, that warm fuzzy feeling will stay with you when you continue writing over the years. Mine kind of went away for awhile after some personal stuff occured, but I regained it later on.

For which I am forever grateful.

Do keep us in the loop man. I'm looking forward to seeing how this project ends up! And don't be afraid to ask for tips if you're feeling something is lodged in there, alright? There're plenty of accomplished storytellers on this board - something I learned when we were doing the round robin thing back in the day.

Thanks for the support, friends. It means a lot. I just finished up all my editing and revisions for chapter 13, and to kind of help me along so I don't get scatterbrained, I went ahead and made a plot outline for the story so I don't miss any key parts as I'm writing. Chapter 14 is underway and should have it done by the end of the week (I seem to only get a lot of my writing done while on break at work...which is only an hour every day).

I think I should clarify...I'm technically only on chapter 5. But each chapter is broken down into parts, so I just count them as chapters...it's easier than saying "HEY GUYS, I'M ON CHAPTER 4 PART G!!!" lol

I've paid a lot of attention to the main characters development in the early chapters, but not divulging too much of his character and his direction. The story itself is really starting to get steam in the right direction. I really, really, really wish I could just tell you guys everything about it to this point, but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. I have 2 very close people in my life who are sort of my sounding board and they're the only ones who have read it so far. But I promise...when I get this story completed, I will make it available to anyone who wants to read it on this board. That's a secure promise, from me to you guys.

Thanks again for the support. Seriously.
