GeoCities will shut down TODAY...

And with it, my own Tex Murphy website: Tex Murphy Boulevard, and a few other original Tex Murphy sites, like Matt Buckstein's Alcatraz and Chris Marsland's Coit Tower.

We shall miss you Geocities!

For those of you who are interested, feel free to take on last look at my Tex Murphy site created back in 1998 and last updated in 2001!

Wow, I remember GeoCities from way back when. What made them shut down? The financial crisis?

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Truly a sad day. GeoCities played a special role in the history of this humble corner of the Internet--the very first incarnation of this site was hosted there, lo those many years ago! Farewell to the birthplace of UOTM!
Are you hosting that stuff anywhere else? That was a fun little site!

An end of an era. (sigh) :?

Nope, sadly it is lost to the mists of time. My young mind didn't realize the importance of archiving back then. :)
Very sad that Geocities is closing down; I still remember building a couple of websites there. They were the first widely-known free website company...starting a trend that continues today.

Very neat Tex site also, you still have a couple more hours to move it over to Google!!!! :)
I remember building websites there, but can't for the life of me remember the sites...

Shame it has to go...

Such a pity they'll all be wiped soon... Is there anything on any of them that is rare or unique that should be saved???

Goodbye old friends.

Those "old" sites were the backbone of the Tex Murphy followers for several years before the big shift to UOTM. I remember many who no longer visit us - they helped to keep Tex alive even though they are not around to do so now. Most have simply stopped visiting; some we lost to the big sleep (how I miss Ripley!). Indeed, a sad day is upon us.

'Tis quite sad...

I had an old site there from back in '97 that didn't make it properly through some server transfer of Yahoo's years ago, so it was stuck in time since editing was inaccessible to me.

It's funny, but I was just sifting through it a couple weeks ago without any knowledge of the shut down.

Hello all!

Wow it's been a while. I was just googling old websites and came across this thread -- glad to see you all are still so active and connected after so many years!

If anyone is feeling nostalgic, you can use the Wayback Machine to revisit any of the old sites listed. Thanks so much for preserving the URLs -- it makes it a lot easier to use the archive. (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php).

I re-read a lot of old fanfic and pics through that site -- fun times! Might repost some of it if anyone has an interest. I messed up one of the pages on my interactive fan fic (#8) but found if you go to #4 you can still continue the story okay.

Sorry if this bumps up an ancient thread ;-). I might do that for a bit while trying to see who all is still on here!
Welcome back. Stay awhile, and listen...
